    Price is apparently 300 Euros, so 250 quid sounds about right. More than the Bucket Wheel Excavator for fewer pieces but this does look pretty special.

    Just realised this is a technic set. I was comparing it to the Creator F40 released last year.

    Perhaps a little pricey but I am a sucker for Technic vehicles cars and trucks specifically so likely on the to get list.  Being licensed of course one will end up paying a little more.

    It must be big or really detailed for it to be in the $300 range.  Licensed or not.  I'm guessing (and hoping) it will be fully powered and remote drive-able.

    No PF it's reckoned, but there's a lot of Technic features including a working sequential paddleshift transmission.

    There was a black and white camo version at the toy fairs. You can get a pretty good idea of size googling that if you missed it.

    Wowser. If I'm honest, to look at, I wouldn't have guessed this was a £250/2,700 part kit, but that's often the beauty of technics.

    Given the presence of a serial number, is there any indication of this being limited in availability?

    Its the same piece count has 42043 yet no power functions and £80 more expensive.

    I do wonder also about the high price. It is a nice looking set though. But like you said compared to the 42043 it has no power functions or pneumatics. The price does seem a little high.

    Seems to be the case with all the new large Lego sets these days! 
    Looks nice but I actually thought it looked nicer in black and white at the toy fair.

    Well, I used ctrl+c before I posted my comment to the article (good job too as it disappeared into the internet) so I might as well ctrl+v here:

    Ok, so I'm hugely excited by this set, and this press release is full of detail and makes it even more desirable. I do have some observations:

    Was it translated by Google? Some of the mistakes and sentence structure and words hint that this wasn't written by someone with English as their first language. I don't mind the  1:8/1:10 typo, but "authentically" instead of "authenticity" in the second paragraph of the Product Description sounds wrong to me.

    "Includes a collection of authentic stickers." & "Delivered in luxurious box packaging." Umm... so it comes in a box and it has *authentic* stickers? Okay! :-)

    And the only problem I have with the car at all is the gap beneath the front headlights. Very conspicuous when the car is orange. But I can easily live with that - the rest of the car is just so good.

    Finally, the price. I don't know if price per piece applies well to Technic models, but it doesn't sound too bad to me. Also, there may be a slight increase due to the brand being such an aspirational status symbol. Also, I think they are trying to broaden appeal outside the traditional Technic fan base with this - it's the most 'panelled' car I've ever seen, and it's why I'm interested in it...

    Ooh - one more thing. The designer said "the first vehicle in this LEGO Technic series" - so it is intended that there will be more like this!

    And as an aside to the comments posted above, I think they are trying to expand the market for this to non-Technic fans. These folk do not expect PF or pneumatics in a set. And are all-too-familiar with the "licensing tax".

    I do wonder if the 'gear and rod' bits inside are especially complex and justify the extra cost? I'm not familiar with recent Technic innovations (again, something Lego may well be targeting), but a "fully functional Porsche double-clutch transmission with four gears and gearshift paddles on the steering wheel" sounds... amazing to be honest.

    The price per part is a bit of a contentious subject. On one had, you have the pins - about 35% of the part count for the Arcos (#42043) is made up of simple pins.

    However, you also have far more complex parts, such as pneumatic cylinders etc

    In this set, it sounds like we have a new part/set of parts - related to the gearbox by the sound of things. I suspect (but don't 'know' that parts-development costs more for Technics, as a) I imagine they need to be of higher spec to deal with the loads put on them, and crucially, b) tend to have limited usage outside of Technics.

    Funny - I couldn't see some of your post until I hit 'Quote'. You've confirmed my suspicions. Makes no difference to my opinion of the set really. Would just like two more little panels to go below the front headlamps. Perfect!

    And now we know how they managed to pull off the shifting.. With a new connector used with the driving rings.. Definitely need to get my hands on some of those..

    Fantastic video - some incredible design & engineering work.

    It's a lot of money, no doubt about it, but at least they (Lego) do now at least try and put a bit more effort into the presentation of it - rather than just a box of parts as if it was a £25 set, but they really want you to feel like you're putting together a premium set.

    And a dual clutch 4-speed gearbox with reverse? Oh hell yes.

    When I saw this in the Black and White preview pattern I thought it was just 'good'. Now with it coming out in Orange, which may I add is my favourite colour, I'm in love! 

    The designer video sells it to me even more. I initially did think the price was a little high but when you look at the video, you can see the lengths they've gone to and why it commands a higher price. The booklet is quite thick in size and looks of a high quality along with how the box internals are presented. 

    I don't have any space to even store sets of this size any more but I'll be sure to clear things out to make space for this beauty!

    I was put off by the price at first but the designer video sold me. I wonder if it's going to be a limited run? Got pretty excited when they started talking about each set having a unique license plate but then they made it clear that it was just a randomised sequence rather than individually numbered sets.

    Not from what I've seen. Laser-engraved codes aren't unique to limited edition sets — pretty much every LEGO Hero Factory set from 2012 through 2013 had a laser-engraved "Hero Core" with a unique code. Same with a lot of 2007 Exo-Force sets.

    Of course, I'm sure LEGO is producing a lot fewer of this set than those, just by virtue of its size and price. But if it were a limited run then I think they'd have announced it as such — and they probably would not have been able to produce so many new molds for it, either.

    Technic cars have always been my favourite Lego sets, and this one I just love, love, love - it oozes quality and that premium feel that a name like Porsche commands. Really like the colour scheme - so nice to have something that's not another red or black car, and the attention to detail, especially in the gearbox, is really nice, although printed pieces rather than stickers would have been nice for the price. The new parts are kind of irrelevant for me as this is the type of set that will be built and displayed - no MOCs will result from this set.

    I have yet to dip my toe in the Technic theme and will probably do so with #42039 24 Hours Race Car soon, as I am a big fan of Le Mans and GT racing.
    This set looks absolutely fantastic and I may well find myself buying this at some point in the future, even though the price is sky-high.

    If I find I can budget for a big Technic set it'll be the Bucket Wheel Excavator rather than the Porsche, but it really is a beautiful model!
