10254 Winter Train

CM4Sci posted a list of 2016 Exclusives on Eurobricks a couple of days back. One of which was #10254 Winter Train, which presumably will be this year's Winter Village set.

I wonder what it'll be like? Personally I'd expect something similar to #79111 Constitution Train Chase, with a train and a few wagons/carriages, a loop of track, and a small platform or building. They could do that for about £80.

I can't see Lego not including track with a train these days. It gives it so much more playability.

I also can't see it being a re-release of #10173 Holiday Train. I've built the loco for that, and quite honestly, compared to more recent trains, it's pretty rubbish.

Exciting. My guess would be that it would be between the two I'm style, can't wait to see it

I wonder if its the same as the one mentioned in this thread,

I'd love another Christmas themed train but we could really use a train station. Either way I will probably get it as Winter Village is my main collection focus.

All aboard the hype train! (pun intended).

I'd love a detailed winter train set, but I think a rehash of #10254 wouldn't be too far off the mark, especially considering there's actual drive wheels that were introduced in Emerald Night.

Yay! I'd buy three of them.

As long as it comes designed around the possibility of being powered I'll be happy.

Lego has a terrible track record for releasing decent non-expert trains lately.  #79111 was a great looking train, but couldn't be powered without major modifications.  #9467 was more of a child's pull-toy than a train, that also couldn't be powered without major modifications, nor did it even run on Lego track.  My expectations are definitely tempered.

^ Maybe because it wasn't intended to run on LEGO track? it's meant to be flying, isn't it?

The funny thing with #9467 is that the loco WAS fitted with train wheels, it's just the vehicles following which weren't fitted that was the issue.

^^ I'm not sure how one would lay 'ghost' track...

My expectations are pretty low as well. Since the WV buildings are typically facades I'd expected a train that is long on seasonal details and very short on functionality and accuracy.

Second year in a row without an original idea for a Christmas set?  I like trains too and I'm sure it will be popular, but I'm quickly losing interest without original pieces to add to the winter scene.

(I think that would be laying 'ghost' pipe.  But whatever.)

Tough to gauge what this iteration of a train will look like.  Although I agree that the level of detail on most WV sets is non-modular, if this is a $89.99 or $99.99 set, and they dispense with the silly mini-builds, you could have something comparable to the Constitution.

And as much complaining we all do about the quality of the build, I think most of us are expecting to modify any train to accommodate power functions.  I, for one, just want a good base that I can build off of.

^ My daughter laid some "ghost pipe" the other day. She was puzzled because she knows she did, but could not  for the life of her, figure out where it went :)

Christ Generic minifigure on a bike train. What has this thread become?
  • cheshirecatcheshirecat Member Posts: 5,331
PS. That is actually entirely true, apart from the ghost pipe in the bed. After about 5 minutes, and sitting up to look around the corner twice (to make sure there wans't a murderer in my bedroom you understand) I went back to sleep.

Nothing to do with pipes or trains, but I genuinely (as much as its possible with something that doesn't exist) saw a ghost last night, a woman in a shawl, with dark hair tied up in a bun, drinking from a very small cup and saucer, standing to the side of my bed. As I looked she slowly hovered back to the dressing table. It completely freaked me out, so much so I almost laid a ghost pipe in the bed.
    That is awesome.

^ Did I miss something in translation?  I just assume we are making poop jokes.

Anyway, would a ghost poop only smell for ghosts?  I assume non-spectre folk wouldn't be able to smell it.
  • CCCCCC Member Posts: 20,556
^ Well believers can smell ghosts' semen ectoplasm, so I assume they'd be able to smell their poop too.

I really hate the quote feature.

Anyways @cheshirecat this ghost you describe fits the description of my long lost sister. If you encounter said  apparition again would you please tell her to return my emails and what's up with NYC? Thanks!

To get it back on track (ahem), if it was to be a rehash of #10173, I would imagine we would see the tree truck (US: car) removed, or combined with the present one. IMHO it's the weakest point of the set.
  • PeteMPeteM Member Posts: 447
I think it'll follow the Constitution model of being unpowered but with track. Hopefully with a truck to transport the Winter Village helicopter...

I am hoping for some sort of present loading/tipper/crane manned by elves. Rolling stock would be a present hopper, reindeer pen car and naughty child prison wagon.

At one stage on Eurobricks it was reported that it wouldn't be minifig scale, more like a mini tourist train.

  • Pitfall69Pitfall69 Member Posts: 11,454
Is it 100% confirmed that the Winter Train is part of the Winter Village Theme? If it is, why wouldn't the train not be minifig scale?

  • ecmo47ecmo47 Member Posts: 2,101
^ The very popular Studio 56 line of Christmas buildings doesn't worry a lot about scale.
  • crazycarlcrazycarl Member Posts: 392
Hope it will be modeled after the polar express with 2 coaches!  I would pay $150 for a good loco, tender, and 2 coaches.  Do not need track though.

I have never bought nor owned any Lego Trains, but since Lego WW is my main (and almost only) lego focus and I am planning my this year's WW MOC already, I would be very happy with this. I, too, am hoping for 2-3 wagons that would be wintery enough (and minifig scale too!).Train tracks are not a necessity though, since they can be bought separately. Now I just have to find a clever way to get it around the table and the village itself..hmm...

yeah, we should be getting something soon. I would imagine an official Lego press release won't be too far down the road, given these sets are usually released late Summer.

I saw some images online (they were tiny) that looked like it could be the new train. It looked like a upgraded version of 10173. Not cartoony, but not Emerald Night-esque either.
  • brumeybrumey Member Posts: 1,002
really hoping for a #10173 or #79111 steam engine style train.

dont need tracks, dont need wagons, but please: INCLUDE POWER FUNCTIONS

Something along the lines of #10173 would be fantastic... I'd be fine for it to not contain track, as I'd be happy to source that separately, to get a small oval / circle...
  • dragon114dragon114 Member Posts: 642
^^ in hoping it has powerfuction support like the mersk train.

^ Support but not necessarily included.  Raises the cost they could use on better design.
