Upcoming Lego clearance at Barnes and Noble

ThoughtsonblocksThoughtsonblocks Member Posts: 178
edited April 2016 in Shopping USA/Canada
I was in my local store yesterday buying a Lego set and the guy helping me out told me that there would be a fair number of Lego sets going clearance at 50% off starting April 11th.  I know they usually do a clearance event every April that involves some Lego sets, but it was usually a hit and miss affair to figure out exactly when and getting in before all the good stuff is gone, so its nice to have a more exact date.  I don't know if this holds true for every store, but its probably pretty close, within a couple days.

I don't know if the mods want to move this topic to the Shopping U.S/Canada but I stopped in my local B & N today and there were a number of LEGO sets 50% off.  Here's what was at my small B&N:

    #75089 Star Wars Geonosis Troopers

    #75075 Star Wars AT-AT microfighters

    #75074 Star Wars Snowspeeder microfighters

#70818 Lego Movie DOuble Decker Couch

It is B&N, shouldn't it be:
'LEGO Clearance at Barnes and Noble*'

    *LEGO excluded from offer/sale

Managed to go to my local B&N today.

A guy was in the process of grabbing every single set that was on sale. I only managed to grab a few because he was carrying them back to the cash register a few at a time and gave me a window of opportunity.

Anyway, I got my hands on the following at 50% off each:

    #60035 Artic Outpost
    #60036 Artic Base Camp
    #60068 Crooks' Hideout
    #60075 Excavator and Truck

I had no Artic or Swap Police sets before (except for a couple of promo polybags) and only had my eye on #60075.

Weird - my local B&N had the Mine at full price, but a bunch of other themed sets at 50% off.

No details yet - just got off the phone with my wife who ran by there on her way home. She grabbed three bags full of sets that looked like ones I'd want, so anxious to see what they are!
(Yes, I do know that I'm a lucky guy  :-)

    Nope.  Literally nothing else.

Yeah, same here. Wish I could find a store like this:

I got a #60042 and a #60082 for $10 each. They had like 8 Minecraft mines. Also some Chima, Duplo, a Batman clock, and some Chima keylights.

Did they have the red 50% sticker on them?

Frustrating that our B&N did not have The Mine on clearance for some reason.

My wife did however get a few Duplo for the kids as well as some City sets and a Creator Beach Hut plus a few smaller Creators. She was totally buying on spec!  :-)

Now I need to decide if the City sets are useful for their bricks as I'm not really collecting/building the City theme.

Also a green baseplate, which was a weird thing to have on clearance.

Oh, and a couple Lego Movie Couches!  :-)

I'm wondering if they change the clearance items based on region or if this store was just misinformed?

the b&n i visited in NC had nothing brick-wise on clearance.   sad trombone.
  • YodaliciousYodalicious Member Posts: 1,366
^ Same in Tampa. Not a single set on clearance.
  • 77ncaachamps77ncaachamps Member Posts: 2,442
I wonder if a BN membership allows an extra 10% off the clearance price.

It should, regardless if it's a Lego set or not.
  • Russell844Russell844 Member Posts: 2,425
My receipt told me how much I would have saved with a membership.

I believe we did get the 10% membership discount as well.

@Furrysaurus  @Yodalicious I should mention that my wife also saw nothing own clearance, but one and asked an employee (manager?) who then went in back and found a bunch off sets that were on clearance. No idea why they were not own display.

I didn't mention this detail because I assumed it was just an oversight by this one store, but maybe it's more general than that? Curious if those who saw nothing on sale asked, or did what I would have done and just left?  :-)

^ I just left. I never ask. It annoys my wife to all ends. "They didn't have Diet Coke." "Did you ask?" "No, why would I do that?" "Because...oh, forget it."

But knowing that your wife found some by asking, I may have to change my tactic.

None on clearance in the Chicago store I checked. There were no signs on the 10 sets they had, so I did a price check on one and it came up full price.

Yup! Glad it was her, as I'm the same way, and my wife similarly gets annoyed. :-)

I'm glad I spotted this thread the other day. I stopped into my local Barnes & Noble and found 7 sets. The Star Wars sets were hidden under a bunch of random boxes, but I was able to score the following:

    #75075 micro at-at
    #75089 geonosis troopers x2
#21107 minecraft micro world the end
    #41092 friends Stephanie's pizzeria
    #41061 Disney princess Jasmine's exotic palace x2

Im going to hit a couple other stores in my area to see if I can find any others.

You can save yourself some trouble by checking online and selecting store pick up. It shows the local store price and at least let's you know if those prices are live in your area. YMMV about actually getting the store to hold a clearance item. And the brickpicker crew has already done a lot of damage on this sale.

I checked my store yesterday morning, they had one Milano, a 60043 Prisoner Transport, a couple mid size ninjano sets, 60035 City Ice set, 60075 Excavator and Truck and 60068 swamp police along with a handful of duplo and other random sets.  There were three tables set up in the main aisle marked clearance, and some of the lego sets were on top, some were buried under other boxes and some were hidden underneath the table, I really had to dig for them.  I am also curious how they decide whats going clearance since it seems to differ from store to store.  There were "The Mine" sets in the minecraft area full price.  I also wonder if they add more stuff to the table as the week goes by or if what goes on there at the start is it.  50% off pretty much any lego set is great, especially if I am getting the extra 10% off with my membership.

I went to my store yesterday.. and it was closed (as in gone, bare floors). I used to go there quite a lot but stopped once they started to exclude LEGO from coupons

All I managed to find was a Duplo Baby Zoo for $4.99 and 41053 Cinderella Carriage $14.99

Thanks @pharmjod - had looked on the website the other day but didn't see clearance stuff. Dug deeper after seeing your post and found some sets in local stores.

Amazingly, my wife (yes, again) was near one of them and snagged a Minecraft Mine, another Beach Hut, and a City set Deep Sea Helicopter as well as a small Lego Movie set (not sure which one).

I now have several City sets on spec that I need to decide what to do with...

So I did an online reservation for this set:
#76025 Super Heroes Green Lantern vs. Sinestro $9.97

A lady at the store just called to say they have one, but it is a clearance item, and they can't hold it, so she has to cancel the reservation. She said she wanted to call to let me know they did have one. Then she said she was just going to set it at customer service with a post-it note with my name on it and forget she did it. :)

I know where I'm going after work!

Interesting. Did you get a confirmation text/email or just the sad-news call?

My reservations for clearance The Mine and Beach Hut did result in confirmation texts.

My wife got there to pick them up literally a couple minutes after I received the confirmations, and they had them off the floor and in a holding area.

This was one of the "Bookstar" B&N locations, so maybe those have slightly different policies?
  • Russell844Russell844 Member Posts: 2,425
A few minutes after I got off the phone with her I got both an email and a text confirming my reservation, so I don't think she actually cancelled it.

can confirm The Mine is 50% off in South Bay.
problem is: red stickers weren't on them. Had an employee scan and check.
  • JenniJenni Member Posts: 1,390
Lots of Duplo here and a handful of other sets. However the Ninjago Epic Dragon Battle? Not on sale.

Was at a B&H near Brighton NY. Somebody had picked up a Mine and was obviously looking up its value on his phone. While he was doing so, I went ahead and cleaned off the shelf. If I wasn't in a hurry, I might have tried to work something out with him.
  • Russell844Russell844 Member Posts: 2,425
I ended up getting the last of each of #76025, #41087, and #31035.

The red stickers were on The Mines at the Blossom Hill/Almaden Expwy store.

I left a stack of 5 or 6 at my Barnes and Noble and am going to have my  mom take back the three I initially had her pick up for me. My gut tells me those will be depressed for a long time especially since Toys R Us and Target still have it in stock at regular price. That and I've decided I just don't like Minecraft in general. I did however pick up Hulk Lab Smash, Joker Steamroller and a few other smaller sets so not a total waste of time.

    Maybe.

Then the Minecraft kids become adults with money to burn. ;)

But I like the translucent pieces and tiles...and bricks...

As I've said before, I'm not holding a set for 8-10 years in the hopes that this generation will have either the nostalgia or financial means to purchase it at a premium. That is a fine investment strategy for some people. Not me.

I went to B&N two days ago and was lucky enough to pick up two $90 Chima sets (70145 and 70227) at 50% off. Apart from those two sets they didn't seem to have any other sets on clearance, though it's possible that some others had already been bought.

Thats about right.  Ebay should have a bunch of new auctions on these sets real soon then.

B&N in Milford CT had a bunch of Chima sets on the 50% off table yesterday. debated and decided to leave them, so they may still be there if anyone else is interested. #70223, #70224, #70227, and lots of little #7023* sets were there, and a few Duplo sets.
  • JenniJenni Member Posts: 1,390
Down to 75% off at one of my local stores. They still had Duplo.

My local Barnes and Noble was pretty well picked clean at 50% off the only things left were some Duplo. But I went in this morning and they had put out some new sets that were now 75% off. I grabbed:
    60068 Crook's Hideout
    70143 Sir Fangar's Saber-tooth Walker
    60043 Prisoner Transporter

They also had two of the 60035 Arctic Outpost but someone else grabbed both of them before I could get one.

No Lego on clearance at my store, but they did have a full box of Disney CMF's. They never got series 15 in.
