what i am building right now,
and have been for the past days.
is my Pet Shop MOC, i now have a name for the MOC but will keep that to my self until i am finished and ready to brag..(cough).... show the finished model to you all.
it looks good and it coming along well. i can see me spending a good part of my time in little details until i am happy with it, but still got a bit to go before i can get to the small details.

Finished bag 1 of the brick bank over the weekend. Went a little too quick for my liking, but I still have bags 2-4 to go.

Having now built #75094 I thought I'd write a short review. I haven't had time to take photos yet, but it's not exactly a new release so there's plenty of existing photos available.

    The build
It was nice to have a proper instruction book with a spine. Take note TLG - this should be standard for ALL the more expensive sets. This is my first System-scale set, and I thought the build was surprisingly like a UCS build - especially with the Technic lift arms for the landing gear mechanism and interior cross-bracing. Not too many stickers too - thoroughly enjoyable.

    Minifigures
A great selection of minifigures - Endor Leia, two Endor Rebel Troopers, Endor Han and the latest Chewbacca. All fully armed with 'proper' weapons too (none of this stud shooter nonsense). The only thing I didn't like was Leia's poncho. Her torso printing is really good so I'll be leaving that off.

    The completed model
With the wings deployed in flight mode this set looks great (and it's large). Even though it can't be displayed in flight mode (without MOCing a substantial stand) it also looks superb in landing configuration. I really like the detail of the movable landing gear and the cannons. It can certainly hold it's own when displayed alongside larger UCS sets. There's only two things I don't like. Firstly it's that the set is a little tail-heavy with the landing gear deployed. As an engineer, if I was the designer I wouldn't have been satisfied with that. Secondly, I think the interior detail is a bit meh. Having said that, I really appreciate that all of the minifigures and equipment can be seated and stowed inside. These are quite minor criticisms though.

In summary, I'm very pleased with this set. Hopefully I'll get time at the weekend to take some photos and upload them to my photostream...

I've built a ton of sets in the past couple weeks as I recently rediscovered my collection.  Everything is horribly mixed up and most sets are missing at least 1-2 parts though :(.  Some of the larger/cooler sets I've fished out of the random bins include #6973, #6278, #7317, and #6769.

In terms of new purchases, I have #6957 and #6898 sitting in the "to-build" queue.  They showed up over the weekend.

Just finished a binge watch of Rebels season one, and decided I'd like the Ghost microfighter to be more of a mini-model than a ride-in scooter (I bought it just to get a second Hera, so the full-size Ghost would have a pilot while still having the whole main cast standing in front of the shelf; also, two Heras, why wouldn't you).  So, filled in the top, rebuilt the nose a little to accommodate the dorsal cockpit canopy, and added a detachable mini-Phantom:

Also, finished working on the Affleckmobile - more modifications to the nose to flatten it and sink those hotrod exhaust thingies closer down to the rest of the hull, and armour for the rear wheels:

I think I saw in a Jangbricks review that he built a simple stand out of transparent half cylinders. I bought some for mine, but I haven't built it yet so I am not sure if it will work. I would prefer to display it in flight mode.

Did you notice at all if it would be hard to extend the landing gear? I'd like to make the legs a little longer so the ramp can come further down, allowing minifigs to actually go up and down the ramp.

  • bandit778bandit778 Member Posts: 2,379
^ I built a stand for mine last year using Technic beams and lift arms as I wanted to display it at an angle so it looked more "swooshy". The landing gear had to be completely removed as the top of the stand needed to be as big as possible so the ship wouldn't tip over with the extra weight of the top fin not being centred.

I'm not sure, the landing gear is quite critical. It has to be fully retracted for the wings to be completely deployed in flight mode, and has to be swung fully forward to lock it out in landing mode. If anything it's already too long (so it can retract enough in flight mode) because the model is tail-heavy, almost falling over backwards, with the gear locked out in landing mode.

This picture from the Brickset database shows it retracted:

In addition, I think the ramp would need to be longer if the landing gear was longer (to maintain a sensible angle when down).

The landing gear was clearly a problematic feature on #10212 as well. In that set it was a separate assembly without a mechanism that was fitted instead of the stand when you wanted to display it in landing configuration.

Built Dr Who last night. Quite a neat little build. Too many left over pieces for my liking though, so need to go back through the instructions later to check I didn't muck it up somewhere.

if you have 2 of the same part or any part that's bigger then a 1x1 tile. odd's are you missed a part out of the build.
as Dr who is not a numbered bag set. you should only have 1 spare of 1x1 size items.

    @Briking
Not sure how accurate it is, but the Bricklink inventory for #21304 lists 28 small parts as extras with this set. Have not built mine yet so I cannot confirm this.

Found 3 small pieces I missed last night, so now all good.  Either the lighting in my study or my eye sight isn't what it used to be. Or both.

And that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it! :-)

That's a great set! I actually bought it twice as I was going to try and combine 2. I just havn't gotten round to it yet. But for me it has pretty much as many pieces I can handle at once (no numbered bags) without spending as much time sorting as building. That being said, #10212 is a whole different matter! I'm not looking forward to dismantling it before I move only to rebuild it a few days later... or am I?

This is more of a "I just got done building" type of thing, but I recently finished The Captain Phasma Buildable Figure. Favorite part of the build was putting together the Laser Rifle! Love that thing XD I actually uploaded a review/speed build up on my YT channel if anyone's interested https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D9bD0gvwlYw :)

Is this true? They put in one extra of each 1x1 part per bag.  I have never thought to look in an unnumbered bag situation whether each type of part only appears in one bag.  Looking at pictures of Dr Who suggests you would be right - anyone know if thats always the case?

my bad i missed 1 bag as it was inside one of the bigger bag's.

4 type's of part have been split over 2 bag's.
so as lego split them in to 2 bag yes there are 2 spares of them type of parts.
    why? no idea.

but thanks for pointing that out to me, now i not going to spend 2 hours going back over the model to work out ware i missed a 1x1. lol.

I bought some of the Chima sets from the first year and the Legend Beasts from the second year for the figs and builds. I've also gotten other Chima sets as review sets or gifts. It's generally a really well-designed theme, even if it didn't catch on the way Ninjago did and the story never excited me to the same degree.
  • FauchFauch Member Posts: 2,679
I didn't mean it was embarrassing to admit it. but it's definitely not a theme that spawns much discussion here. I have over half the tribes now, the figs from 2015 in particular are outstanding, at least judging from the 3 sets I got.

I liked some of the China sets, the only thing I found off putting was the same thing I found off putting about some of the clone wars sets - the eye printing on the head just made the figures look odd.

Got restless hands after sorting out the parts for my next bricklinked  build but didn't want to start it yet as the sandcrawler is still out on display (2 weeks and no comments as yet),  Also have #75136 still sitting on a shelf in the bedroom awaiting a new sticker set (which the kind people at TLG customer services are sending out to me even though I offered to pay as I royally messed up on one of the outside panel sticker trying to realign it), so built #75137 that I picked up today to see how they achieved the swap over from Han to Carbonite block. Nice little build but makes me want to build something more film accurate more than ever.
  • chrisalddinchrisalddin Member Posts: 3,041
got to step 92 on #10220. (that's in book 2.)
    so over half way now.
    it look's good.
and the build is picking up speed now there are less part's to hunt over.
i am surprised by the shear level of detail in this set. Hell a item i had believed to be a poster is a t-shirt. in a cupboard that you can open. with a mirror on the cupboard door. and that is just one detail picked at semi-random. i say "semi-random" as it the only one i can explain in word's i can spell with out 20 minutes of hunting for the right spelling. is this day 3 or day 4 of this build? i have lost count.
  • chrisalddinchrisalddin Member Posts: 3,041
and with 1 last big push, #10220 is finished.

look's great and i love it.
no idea what to build next.
    i got a good mix to pick from. 12 dimensions set's, 2 city set's, 7 nexo knights set's,
1 star wars, #10243 and well as some set's i picked up for part's but may build just to say i have built it. minus the stickers.

so back to watching amazon for price drops on the remaining 4 dimensions fun packs i dont own yet. i am after Aquaman but i am not paying £12 for him.

I'm on my second Modular - the Pet Shop. First was Parisian Restaurant, which was awesome. I'm enjoying PS as well, although I was a bit concerned since I generally assume the level of fun and the building techniques increase as the live evolves. But - fun so far!

Actually my "test" after doing PR was to build a 3-in-1 Lakeside Lodge just to see if the PR had ruined me for simpler builds. It had not - I found the Lodge to be enjoyable as well, although clearly a little different experience. :-)
