Next time can we ask our friendly lego employee about the Big Ben?
  • PaperballparkPaperballpark Member Posts: 4,270
@Paperballpark, next time you see one of your reliable sources would you please run the Carousel rumor past them?
Oh don't worry, I intend to (if I remember). I'll also ask about future CMF lines too. Could be a few weeks before I'm next in there though.

As for the Big Ben thing, as far as I'm aware that's all but confirmed, with the listing for #10253 on brickset.

Big Ben is supposed to be about the same price as the Opera House with an autumn release.

Your YouTube channel was the first thing I checked for validation of this... I hope you find out if there's a new 'ride' this year soon!

Are you sure they weren't taling about the fairground mixer?
Yes, but I'm not certain a new carousel is coming. I asked her, not because she's a LEGO store employee but because she's had accurate insight in the past as an afol, if she new of anything new coming to the fairground theme and she said she'd heard a new carousel was coming soon.

But not necessarily a new Grand Carousel? To me, the Mixer and the (original) Grand Carousel aren't really in the same league. The Ferris Wheel is closer, but not really. I could see a new carousel coming along in the theme, but not at the same level / part count as the original. If it was, the theme is jumping from ~ 1750 to 2500 to 3500 parts, so doubling in "size".

Logic suggests it will be B.B.
Maybe a modular Bed & Breakfast!

I endorse the suggestion that any new Carousel would probably be a Mediocre/Barely Past Adequate Carousel.

    Woo-hoo!

Mediocre is better than none!  I mean if its anything like the Friends roller coaster than no thanks but I love my Ferris Wheel and if its as good as that I'd be happy.

The Ferris Wheel is great, but to make a great carousel, there has to be much more put into it. I would love non-brickbuilt animals, but I would imagine that would be more expensive than what we got with the Grand Carousel. A carousel is definitely not out of the realm of possibility, but I am sure most of us will be disappointed with a sub-par carousel.

The way things are going, the set will have about 2000 pieces with about a third dedicated to the obligatory helicopter and the rest used to make half of a carousel so we have to buy 2 mediocre carousels to get a full circle.

Too much pessimism going around here. The recent trend by Lego has been one of the " The Great, The Okay, The Ugly "

The Ferris Wheel , I felt was one of the recent greats. I see no reason why they will not follow it with a great Carousel. The ability is there clearly and so is the fact that TLG is getting bolder in the recent 2 years about making really high piece count( even if they are getting a bit smaller, the pieces ) sets.

I see them very capable of dishing out a "Better" designed ,more stable Carrousel in the count range of 2800 with lights or music brick and chucking it in the USD $280 Bat cave bracket.

Also any moderately good Carousel is better than none just like the Falcons. Win win ?

Whatever it may be though , one thing is certain , the words uttered by one employee are gaining steam here :)

^ We'd eventually get around to speculating about it (or the next fairground Creator set) between now and the end of April anyway.

We've been pre-emotive speculating about the 2017 modular for months already...

If LEGO continues the "fairground" theme I can see the small carousel you see at kiddie/town fairs in the USA. It will be small and able to be moved on a truck. My favorite from when I was little was the one with cars and motorcycles. So here I my ultimate version for a set.

A carousel with helicopters, cars, and motorcycles. A lighthouse ticket booth, and a hot dog/sausage cart.

Image popped up on Facebook half an hour ago. smaller than the Grand Carousel with rather subdued colors, presumably to match the existing fairground sets. Still looks pretty cool though

Here I was looking at the legoleaks reddit, while it was wide open in the lego one. Thanks @Bumblepants ! Seems to be 32x32 now instead of the 48x48 of the old one, that's awesome for my layout. :)

Counting studs, I think the size of the green base is 40x40 with the corners cut off. I think it looks quite nice and will appear in the middle of quite a few Modular cities :)

Agreed - it looked to be 12 studs to the centre line from the start of the 'cutout', and the cutout itself is an 8 stud by 8 stud triangle. It's also built on plates rather than an actual base plate...

Wow... a 40x40 baseplate.... it has be 45 years since that size baseplate was produced... only by USA Samsonite from 1971-72......

Are you sure the cut corner is 8 studs? Then you're right, as I also count 24 + 2 cut corners :)

It is plates adjacent to one another in this case though. Not a true baseplate. Would've been cool though.
