6054: Forestman's hide out. I loved the story of Robin Hood as a child and I played and played and played with this set as a child. My hands can almost build it from memory when I get it out.
6273: Rock Island Refuge. I loved all the pieces and hiding spots on the island plus the pit to throw soldiers in. There are some neat details in it too like the cook stove and crane. It was also my first set with a female figure and I was so happy to have her.
4729: Dumbledore's office. I love the build, the height, all the "magic" features, and the mini fig's. Best of all it could blend with the other Hogwarts sets or stand alone. It really encompassed all the best elements of that theme.
The two sets I begged and pleaded for and are still at the very top of my want list are 6285 and 6286. My father still hasn't forgiven himself for passing on the very last 6285 on the shelf at Toys'R'us right before it was discontinued. Years later when I was teasing him about it as a teenager he bought me 6289 and it just wasn't the same.
I wish they'd do another run at Pirates, but I guess we won't get another full-blown range as long as there's still Pirates of the Caribbean movies to come (next one is out in 2017). I mean, those sets have been terrific, but the higher cost of licensed sets tends to put them out of range for me.

In the modern era, there are so many really great sets but two that stand out are #10019 (Tantive IV) and #4483 (AT-AT). The AT-AT is memorable for two reasons. My wife bought it for me for Christmas and it was one of the first Lego sets that cost $100.00 or more which was a huge mental barrier for a long time.
Also have to mention #8043, Motorized Excavator. So much movement!
i could list a lot of set's here,
but what i will do is list 5 types here, small, Mid sized, Big, Ideas, and Star Wars.
because Star Wars needs a category all to it self.
this will be my list as it stands right now it could change at any time.
Small,
for small set's #60117 has just nudged out #6590 who held the favorite small set place for me for a long time.
Mid Sized, (a 350+ pieces count)
at this time this go's to #70816 but it use to be held by #6975
Big, (a 1000+ Pieces count)
this go's to #70751 with #71016 taking a close 2nd place.

Star Wars,
this go's hand's down to #75094.
however i love almost all of my sets.

as a lot of you know i have a fair bit of Nexo Knights,
however until i have all of year one set's. (that all of the ones that come out this summer as well.) they do not qualify for this yet.
and when them do it will get a category all to it's self.
It is always the next one I buy.

My first set; I think I got it when I was three. I loved the ice cream printed pieces, the bicycle, and the patio umbrella. Later on in childhood, they became Joel and Julie -- broke 20-somethings newly engaged but couldn't afford a wedding (let alone a car -- had to share the bike) because Joel was merely an ice cream scooper. Julie didn't work, which always created tension in their relationship. Also, the fact that they both waltzed around town half naked caused some relationship problems, as well. I believe Julie eventually broke off the engagement to be with Keith, one of my brother's police officers. He had a police car.
I still have it -- no missing pieces (can you imagine what a crazy three-year-old I was) 20+ years later.

My second set; had to BEG for it (~age four) because my crazy mother was really against magic/wizardry/etc. The best morning ever was waking up to this set sitting out on the coffee table. I was obsessed -- the beard, the cape, the parrot, the jewels, the GLOW-IN-THE-DARK WAND, the spell, the ladder, the sword in a barrel, the hideaway feel of it all. I was enamored. It was the most magical set I could imagine (no pun intended, for real). I still see it the same way I did when I was four, too. I just love this set!
I also still have it and all its pieces.
Finally, #5936 Spider's Secret

As usual, I desperately wanted this set, so my mom bought it for my brother instead (also happened with #1254, #6738, and a Gameboy Advance). I eventually got my own copy. My brother naturally lost most of his set's pieces, but I still have all of mine.
Old guy became Cornelius ("Corny" to piss him off), the girl was Anne, and the skeleton was Phil. They were kind of like spies and Phil would always get everyone into trouble. Very much like Archer -- Anne was like Lana, Corny was like Krieger except angrier, and Johnny (which my brother had from another set) was a lot like Archer except a little more bumbling.
I loved all the details in this set. License plate, video camera, film with Johnny Thunder holding the gold piece that's hidden in the temple, the animals, the working magnifying glass, the backpack, the map, the trunk of the car that perfectly held the map, the car's gears, the windshield printing, the booby trap, the colors, etc. I really liked the Anne had hair printed on her face so she didn't look bald when wearing hats. I think this was my first minifigure to have hair printed on. It was a huge deal at the time to me.

6780: XT Starship - The combo of light and sounds plus a really nice shape made this really memorable for me.
7191: X-wing Fighter - Years after my DA began, this was the UCS that brought me back out and I just loved building it.
70816: Benny's Spaceship, Spaceship, SPACESHIP! - My alternative to bricklinking LL-928.
Should I go for #395 Rolls Royce?, the childhood favourite. Or what about #10197 Fire Brigade, the modular that brought me back into the Lego fold. I could make a case for #10243 Parisian Cafe, still the most attractive of the modulars. But the one set that means more to me and only reappeared like a phoenix from the flames after so many years as bits and pieces, is #374 Fire Engine. Seeing this together with the modulars takes me back to the innocent days of childhood in 1970's suburbia when the concerns and worries of being an adult were still future. It still holds its own amidst the more modern kits as an example of what Lego could do.
My most fun build had to be the bricklinked #10179, bricklinking that set really extended the build.

couldn't believe how cool it was when I built it as a nipper, the castle with the glow in the dark ghost behind a secret door was a close second though

#5770 Lighthouse Island was the set that brought me back out the dark ages and I think it is a fantastic display set. For that reason It is probably my favorite set overall.
My favorite big set from childhood would be the Victory Lap Raceway. Endless hours of fun it provided!
Post-DA my most favorite set is the UCS Slave 1, a gorgeous display piece, towering over the other SW sets currently assembled...
Great set and I am very happy that I managed to find one in great condition with box and instruction and even all the extra pieces and now sits proudly in it's honorable place :)
