Neither did I! Looks like I'm going to have to settle for a regular brown one until LEGO releases a set with it in reddish brown...

    What's my LEGO status today?

    P*ssed off, is what... Why?

    Set GBP USD
    #21113 19.99 19.99
    #21114 24.99 29.99
    #21115 39.99 39.99
    #21116 49.99 49.99
    #21117 59.99 69.99
    #21119 19.99 19.99
    #21120 39.99 39.99
    #21121 59.99 59.99
    #21122 69.99 79.99
    #21123 19.99 19.99
    #21124 49.99 59.99
    #21125 74.99 69.99
    #21126 29.99 39.99

    That's why...

Please can someone explain to me how on earth TLG are charging £74.99 for #21125 The Jungle Tree House, while it is only $69.99 in the US?

Now, it's bad enough that for so many sets we are charged on a £=$ basis, e.g. £/$19.99 for #21123, but to be charged MORE £ than $ for the same set just sticks in the throat!

Starlight Inn and the fire dragon set will have bonus VIP points so those would be excellent choices if you are wanting either.

That's a pic from the workshop in the back yard. Will use it to build my layout and for storage of my bigger and more expensive sets. The garage is totally separate and should fit most of the poly bags.

I sent TLG CS a snotty email regarding the pricing of #21125 and got back the usual PR brush-off... "Statistical data about the country’s population, transportation costs, currency exchange rates, local laws and taxes, the price of other toys"... None of which explain this pricing discrepancy.
I haven't had a reply back to my follow-up yet.

Does anyone have any examples of other sets that are or have been priced in this way (non-discounted or special offer)? e.g. UK price £74.99, US price $69.99

That is very likely true, but doesn't explain why the $ price is significantly lower than the £ price.
#21117 was also priced at $69.99, but the equivalent UK price was £59.99, implying that TLG are overcharging the UK by £15.00 on #21125, which is obscene.

@JudgeChuck a few years ago there was a superheroes set (Spider-Man vs someone with lots of arms?) that was also way off, and more than the $ rrp. And some of the dimensions things are equally screwy, although at least they are mostly consistent across the range.

@JudgeChuck - There are lots of examples from almost every theme. #75091 Flash Speeder, #41097 Heartlake Hot Air Balloon, #76027 Black Manta Deep Sea Strike and the brand new #75823 Bird Island Egg Heist spring to mind. It is unfortunate but clearly it is not going to change so we are just going to have to put up with it.

Not a bad birthday haul from yesterday, celebrated starting the last year in my 30s with this lot. My daughter school friend came round for cake and got me the Speed Champions Audi R8 as well. Had a couple of days off work so I spent today sat on the floor watching films and building the R8 and the Ferry.

About to open TBBT set as well. Its going to be built, then pulled apart and rebuilt to form the first floor of a building in my modular street hopefully! Just need to find a suitable replacement for Penny's new hairdo

ok here something to think about.

we know that USA prices, dont have TAX added to them. so all USA prices are Before TAX.

we also know that all UK prices do have the TAX within there RRP price.

so what if the cost of the VAT added to the sets Before tax price. push's it in to the next price group?
  • JudgeChuckJudgeChuck UKMember Posts: 1,089
@chrisalddin a fair question, but now explain the pricing of #21117, which is £59.99 and $69.99. We are being charged £15.00 extra for this set.
    Anyway, I'll stop here...
  • JenniJenni USAMember Posts: 1,376
@chrisalddin It doesn't work that way. The percentage price difference is different for different themes, and sometimes sets within a theme. If all sets were the same number of GBP as they are USD that would be a reasonable argument but instead they're all over the map. Take the example given - two Minecraft sets are priced at US$69.99 but in Britain the price for one is £59.99 and the other is £74.99.
  • catwranglercatwrangler Northern IrelandMember Posts: 1,732
It's hard to believe this isn't one of those cases of charging "what the market will bear", i.e. what they've found people will pay. With Minecraft in particular I wonder if they feel safe in assuming people will pay the high price because it's so enormously popular with kids. But I don't know how that shakes out over the years - I suppose you'd have to look back at which sets had the disparity, and the extent to which they priced that way on surefire winners versus more experimental stuff.

Recently brought #75137 and with the playing about without instructions on the monthly build thread, have decided to attempt a proper sized carbon freezing chamber from ESB. It may take a while as I've not attempted something of this size before but can't wait to get some of my bricklinked orders in so I can start playing around with the design.

@chrisalddin you're missing the point. I would understand a price increase across the board but two sets that are both  $69.99 in the US are £59.99 and £74.99 in the UK. That's a £15.00 difference! Based on exchange rates and taking into consideration any taxes the £59.99 price makes some sense. £74.99 does not in any universe.
We're being fleeced, pure and simple.

Although I in no way agree that this pricing is correct, it is also a lot more complicated than that.  Once this hits stores it may well turn out to spend most of its shelf life at a bargain price.
Take #60095 Exploration Vessel for example, £79.99, $119.99.  That looks like we get a good deal, but actually I could have (and can still) get this set for 50% off at best and regularly 25% without even trying.  What must be happening is the cost to the large suppliers is low enough that they can discount significantly.  Whether this happened for this set in the US, I have no idea, but if it didn't man we got a good deal!
It is possible that although the RRP is a stupid £74.99, for whatever reason, it actually goes out to suppliers at a price more comparable to the US value and similar to a £59.99 set and we therefore see it at a good discount all the time in the UK.
    Fingers crossed anyway.
