    @DougTemplar

Nah, we'll keep them for you if we can (and I don't see any reason why we couldn't). Just send a message on here if anything changes. Someone will have their phone on them. When you get there I'm easy to spot. I have very long dreads. See you tomorrow.

This is the tee I'll be wearing tomorrow so folks can spot me. It was supposed to be Spores, Moulds & Fungus with the Firehouse on it in Egon's silhouette but there's a problem with the print :( and so it cannot be worn. Mr. Stay Puft is looking forward to seeing everyone however. :o)

Shame I couldn't make the picture just a teeny bit smaller though!

I hope Andrew has plenty GB Firehouse HQ's and Brick Banks in stock to keep the Scottish AFOL's happy. Unfortunately I won't make it through on Saturday, unless something miraculous happens, so everyone have a great day out.

So you did adventure_al! Ooops. The lack of the participants names in the group pm threw me for a bit of a loop, just didn't want to miss anybody out.

Hi all! I'm a Brickish AFOL from Dundee. I've known Warren and LegoAvon for a quite a while now and I've done quite a few events with them. It seems we're on the cusp of exciting times in Scotland!

I'll be at the Glenrothes event in May and planning on going to the Aberdeen event in July. Looking forward to more events in Scotland to exhibit at!

    Hi @davidmackenzie
What Aberdeen event in July?  I thought the Granite Brick Show was in May?  Or am I just getting old and confused!  :-)

Its David that's got it wrong, the July Event is in Peterhead. but still in the planning stages.

I'm currently over in Billund for the week on business, is there anything anyone wants keep an eye out for?  I have found the following polys for sale at the Bilka supermarket in Kolding #30348 #30421 #30371 and #30396. They are quite expensive though at just over £3 each.  Bilka also has 25% off all other Lego at the moment.
  • BOBJACK_JACKBOBBOBJACK_JACKBOB Member Posts: 554
Does anybody need #40121 ? My local Tesco has them for £6 each.

@GoldJono I would love two #30421 if you can get me them. Nice mini-fig but it's really the ship's wheel I'm after. Thanks.

    Hi,

Could you have a look for what Architecture sets are available?

Only if it is not too much hassle.

    Many thanks
  • GoldJonoGoldJono Member Posts: 217
@thebeermonkey they didn't have any architecture sets at Bilka or Toys r us in Kolding.  What are you looking for as the best place to buy will probably be the Lego shop at Billund Airport where you get 20% when you spend more than £40.
  • BOBJACK_JACKBOBBOBJACK_JACKBOB Member Posts: 554

Indeed there is @Werewolf_poo and if you ask nicely you can be added to the "top secret" LUG discussion :) Actually you don't have to ask nicely to be honest and it isn't even top secret.

is that the comic con in Glasgow in September?
Actually this weekend's Edinburgh Comic Con is the Con we've got space to display at to at least raise the profile.

    http://www.heroconventions.com/ has the details

Actually that's a good point for getting the word out about LUGs etc do we direct people to Brickset Forum and this thread or another route?

  • nexandernexander Member Posts: 908
I think without anything concrete pointing people here is the best idea. If they want to get involved moving forward it can be done via here. And looking forward to this weekend. Slightly worried it wont look too good as I have had a lot less time than expected on it. Need to get on with it now!
  • nexandernexander Member Posts: 908
Here is the first batch of my photos from Edinburgh Comicon.  Had a great time with @DougTemplar and @davidmackenzie .  Wife had a great time today too.  Had an amazing response from everyone. Everyone (wife included) is keen to do it again, but bigger!  Also wants us to make the Scottish LUG sorted sooner rather than later.

    More pics later!

I didn't realise any kind of meetup had been planned. I knew the star wars event was today but didn't have the cash to go so didn't want to deprive someone else of an invite, hence I didn't read the thread. I thought the point of this thread and the chat was to organise these kind of things? Otherwise what's the point? The only meet up mentioned in either is at warrens in may, of have I missed something? I always seem to have time restrictions and/or kids on certain Saturdays so any other opportunity for a meetup, even for breakfast etc after the store is welcome (I could have done today), specially as I don't work Saturdays any more! If its a closed group meetup arranged privately then that's fine, no problem. if it was open a simple post in here/ chat saying these are the loose plans, let us know if/when you can join us would have been appreciated, I only stay 20 mins away so coming in for even an hour or so isnt a problem. Sorry to be a bit ranty but i can see lots of progress being made in Scotland in the next year so any meet up of afols/activity, however small, should be as open as possible and promoted here at least, to increase numbers and move the community forward. Either way, I want to look forward, not back. I hope to meet as many folks as possible on the 21st. I hope most of usual glasgow store meetup can make it, it should be a great day. May The Brick Be With You.

I think it's probably an oversight. I too couldn't make it to the event so didn't even attempt to read the thread once I looked at the dates - and I've still not bothered to. But I'm sure it would have been discussed in there and I guess I would assume that if folks weren't going to the event they would be unlikely to be able to meet up so might not think to also post in here.

But you make a good point that none of us should take anything for granted as folks might not have the cash to go to the shop but have the time to meet up in the pub.

I'm sure folks will make an extra effort to keep everyone in the loop as much as possible going forward particularly after the open workshop at Warren's (which I am gutted to miss) and talk of what might or might happen if there is to be a BRICK Glasgow.
  • thebeermonkeythebeermonkey Member Posts: 390
For the avoidance of doubt, there was nothing planned regarding Saturday. The decision to go for breakfast was a spontaneous one taken in store on Saturday morning. As was the decision to have a speed build. This, too, was taken in store on Saturday morning. So much so, that a pick a brick cup was filled with build a model bricks in order to facilitate the speed build. In the end this wasn't used as the store manager gave out some Nexo Knights polys for the speed build.

If people who weren't going to the 8am event wanted to meet up with those who were going then perhaps they should have said so prior to the event.

Now, I plan on going to TRU today to redeem some gift cards. I may also pop into Asda. Just so I don't get accused of an "oversight" or not making the effort, does anyone wish to meet up with me afterwards?

  • nexandernexander Member Posts: 908
Sorry for any insult caused, it wasn't my intention. I didn't even realise it was the invite event on Saturday until midday, I'm just surprised it wasn't mentioned by those who were going. Im looking forward to more social stuff happening and just a bit disappointed missed out on something close by. I don't think every trip to the shops is necessary (unless they want some Lego shopping company :) ). I think that given the spread and geography of us and time restrictions full meetups are going to be few and far between, it will be more, smaller events/meetups. Hence it would be good if people mention, in a central place, if they are involved/attending Lego related events if they are open for meeting up with others. If they aren't no prob. Anyway, sorry again and look forward to meeting everyone in the future, at Warrens or another time.

Which aisle in Asda? Actually, which Asda?

I think we can all see there is a happy medium and that nexander was merely concerned that something had been a bit more formally arranged and not communicated properly. Had someone said it was an impromptu / unexpected / spur of the moment gathering of lost LEGO souls needing a speed building fix then no-one would be worried about missing out on a round of the Scottish Speed Building Challenge League and everyone would be happy (even those who missed out on breakfast).

Anyway glad we are all on the same building instruction page and folks aren't being left behind - even if we are all able to be a bit sarcastic at times.

More to the point now we have another Speed Building Winner in Scotland is it going to be like a league table or more like Boxing with various categories and Champion until someone beats you in your next match? What about categories for this do we also score on difficulty as well as speed? These are unimportant questions surely.

    :)

Surely some kind of handicap system. At least the previous winner should get a 10 sec penalty before he can start! If you want a convoluted free build comp how about this. 1) designated brick wrangler/judge for the comp has,say 24, zip lock bags with a handfull of assorted bricks from their collection (or in my case the kids dump box). 2) the eight competitors pick a number, one at a time, and get given the corresponding bag (they cant see the bag until they pick the number). 3) repeat step 2 4) a third number is picked and noted by judge but this time the bag remains hidden. 5) 15/20 mins build time 6) third bag gets dished out 7) another 10 mins building. 8) judge picks winner 9) bags handed to next judge (recycle and all that) As I said, convoluted and yes, ripped off a bit from blocks.

@DougTemplar As you well know, the first rule of the Scottish Speed Build Challenge League (copyright @Lego_Star ) is that no one talks about the  Scottish Speed Build Challenge League (copyright @Lego_Star ). Ssssshhhh! :-) Like for you too!
