Why did the Construct-a-Zurg never go up at all?

I'm starting to realize that a lot of people seem to have storage and shipping issues.  This never even occurred to me, I guess because I have a large temperature and humidity controlled storage space available to me that would otherwise be unused and useless.  This space costs me probably less than 2 dollars a month to maintain.......

....Super simple and easy for me but it sounds like others have real issues with this stuff and that's a shame.
Sorry, maybe it is just my interpretation at the time of my response, but it seemed a bit curious when someone makes remarks like (paraphrasing here) 'realizing that others could have an issue because you happen to have this amazing large space with no problems...' like everyone should have this 'problem', and talking about how it only costs 2 dollars a month to maintain, like everyone should be able to find, or have,  such a space.

That and a line like 'super simply and easy for me, but it sounds like others have real issues' which implied to me that you think it is cut and dry, and others must have an issue because they cannot comprehend or handle it.

If I misunderstood what you meant then I apologize.

No worries, re-reading it it does come off a bit like that.  Not my intention at all.  More of me pointing out how much of an idiot I am to NOT realize that storage, etc. could be a real problem for people not in my unique situation.

So the $2 per month is what you pay towards your brother's food when you take him out?

They go to Mickey D's and share a happy meal.  Wait.... even that would be more than $2.00.  :-)  Maybe they order a couple of things of the Dollar Menu and drink water.

Does anyone have any predictions for the Clone Turbo Tank? There's a new one being revealed at the toy fair, but the old one looks superior.

I predict the CTT will be available to purchase at some point this coming summer.

edit: Sorry, just a bit salty from looking at pictures of the pitiful Hoth "UCS" set again.

Lol, I only take him out for dinner maybe...once a year so maybe it's closer to 4 dollars / month.  But I do help him with lots of business related things throughout the year and don't ask him for any payment.  It's just a mutual thing, he gets help when he needs it, I get a place to store my stuff.

People should be salty after that, this could be the first UCS minifigure playset to be allowed to be discounted after the Exclusives discount ban took effect in the US.

As for the CTT, my guess is once it is out it will drive prices for the previous one down, like most redesigned sets tend to do.

I admit to crustiness. Haven't posted here in a while, but when I did, I composed a long entry, devoting some time and effort to it. Within minutes it seemed to have been trashed, with all my points being challenged. Then, I overreacted. Now I've come to my senses to realize that my original post was about price trends in the US market, where I source and sell, and the forum member disagreeing with all my points sources and sells in the UK. We weren't even arguing about the same markets!

Everything I wrote may have been true. Everything he wrote may have been true. Since I was talking about apples, and he was talking about oranges.

As many of you know, I am an attorney and one of the areas I practice in is CERCLA, which is environmental superfund cleanups.  Unfortunately for the people of Flint, the only thing consistent across cleanup is that they.....move.....very............slowly.

Ok. Ok. My comment wasn't really a joke (it is obviously not a laughing matter), but it is not any different than someone making a comment around the same time as the Ferris Wheel came out. There were "jokes" about Chernobyl. So, let's move on.

Even though the new Hoth set is not that good, I think it will still sell and it might spark interest in #7879 Echo Base.

Well this thread has gotten interesting. On topic question, how long are the Avengers 2 sets supposed to hang around? Specifically Hulkbuster Smash and Avengers Hydra Showdown. I just got the Hydra Fortress Smash last night.  (TRU had it on sale for $43.)

Also what is the lifespan of the January 2015 DC sets? I just recently got into DC again and want to buy some of those.

They appear to be going this year.  I'm just basing this on their waning availability.  If you would have used your TRU CC a few weeks ago on Thursday, they had Hydra Fortress Smash for $34.88 - 10%.  You could get them down to about $30 each with a discounted gift card.

I'm not that in-tune with the investor market, but the Pirates Chess Set didn't include any truly exclusive figures, did it? And while perhaps more practical, it's less grand or impressive than the Castle Giant Chess Set. Also, there'll almost certainly be other chess sets in the future, even if they aren't Pirates themed. So given those three factors, I wouldn't expect it to rise in value too dramatically.

I was just at the Lego store today... and I found 60051 High-Speed Passanger Train received a box upgrade not too different from that of the Creator Expert line. I didn't take a picture, but it's the same size and all that's different's the banner itself, to match the 2015/16 lineup.

Given it's literally the only set from 2014 that's still being sold in general retail I think it kinda proves that the trend up updating boxart does signify all those sets will stick around longer. The person I asked about it also suggested it was for that purpose.
  • SumoLegoSumoLego Member Posts: 15,229
That would be disappointing if that train is the 2016 Creator Train...

Maybe I'm missing something but the #60051 is the only general set from '14 still being sold in general retail? I do not think so. Also, LEGO trains are a bad example IMO as they tend to have about a 3-4 year run anyway.

Well technically no... you can still easily find most of last year's lineup if you were to walk into a store or pick it up online at retail price. They've just recently been retired from Lego themselves during last Christmas's sales and they won't be giving more shipments to stores. When last years's sets are gone they're gone. The only ones left are City's trains, 2 architecture sets, and all of Minecraft and frankly, I don't even count the latter as it as they did a horrendous job at stocking them up until January.

So I've seen a LOT of hate towards the new UCS hoth set (justifiably so) but this could also be opportunity? With little demand for this UCS set it will probably have a short selling period plus a lot of discounts to try and move them plus people won't have a lot of them. So say in 5-10 years when collector's who want the set (sealed presumably) and can't find it from TLG then turn to a market for a set that was really only bought by other collector's or people who opened it? I realize this is way in advance but I wanted to put my thought's out there.
  • haakonohaakono Member Posts: 62
If the UCS Hoth set doesnt sell well, we can expect it to be 50% during a "May the 4th" sale.  Then it would be worth picking up.

Yeah, I think TLG learned from the B-Wing. Let me say that I knew that was going to happen. I was called crazy, but I wasn't so crazy after all. Can we still call people "crazy" or is that forbidden now? ;)

Did you say Hoth or Ewok Village?  Both are playset type UCS scale Star Wars sets.  Both garnered mixed comments on release.   Subject is different,  with Hoth presumably getting a more favorable AFOL reaction than ewoks.

While not a perfect comparison, I do not foresee a shorter shelf life or more substantial discounts than what will be observed for Ewok Village.

Apologies if this has already been asked within this thread (I'm on mobile version of site so no search facilities):
is the Jurassic world theme retiring soon? It's still on Lego shop website and in the larger toy stores, but I notice most sets are no longer available in Argos and other retailers.
again, sorry if this has already been discussed - just after a simple answer.
    thanks
  • BumblepantsBumblepants Member Posts: 7,637
I would expect Jurassic World to last until new summer sets hit at the latest. Movie is long gone and retailers will want to put fresh stuff on the shelves. It might even get pushed out by March releases in a lot of places. It was a strong seller though so maybe they decide to keep some around but I would not count on it.

Just because adult collectors that want single ship models don't like a playset doesn't mean it won't sell.
  • LuLegoLuLego Member Posts: 1,010
Thanks Bumblepants. I suppose movie themed sets have a shorter life span given that toy shops have limited shelf space and can't justify sets taking up room if kids have moved on to the next film craze.
One more quick question: given that smaller shops will probably stop stocking Jurassic world sets when the new wave of sets are released, does this mean Lego will soon stop selling them online too?
    thanks
  • BumblepantsBumblepants Member Posts: 7,637
^It really comes down to when they end production which can't be known by us. Sometimes Toys R Us will maintain a line longer than other retailers, at least in the USA. This happened with Monster Fighters, the Grand Emporium, and a few others I think.
