Just bought #924 Space Transporter from @MattsWhat (thanks!), which completes my Classic Space grey/blue/yellow collection! :-)
Can't wait for it to arrive and get everything built together. I should have quite a good display, as I have 9 crater & runway plates to act as a base. :-)

    Oh, I will!
Hopefully, I'll get some time this weekend to get it all set up, just as long as #924 arrives in time (I'm sure it will)... :-)

    Agreed.  The thunderbox rocks!

I can only imagine the designers' discussion when the set was proposed:  "So, new guy, how about for your first design, you handle the service truck?"

10x 50-count bags of pill pouch sized Ziplocs from Walgreens. The cashier didn't get the answer she wanted when she smirked and asked "hehe, what are these for?" "Um, LEGO minifigures." Blank stare.

and here is the New car with the new cast.

a ghostbusters girls crew... this is where "equal rights" di9scussion goes out of hand!

we "good" guys just want gyals and guys on par. some emancipational men haters wanna turn around the whole thing .... so that men take the role, which woman had the last 20 000 years ....    really sad !

  • chrisalddinchrisalddin Member Posts: 3,040
i dont know if there are going to be any cameos from the old Boys ghostbusters teem in the movie but if there was it would not surprise me. dan aykroyd has been a Writer if not the Writer on this movie. and i just look on IMDb and it said he is acting in the movie so.
i know them can not use the old teem as one is dead and the other 3 are getting on in age to be running a round like them use to and would need to in a movie like this one will be.

also the Movie is in post-production right now going on what IMDb is saying.

From what I've heard Billy Murray wanted nothing more to do with the franchise so it's unlikely he'll be in it.

So many people have jumped on the "it's definitely going to be crap so I'm going to hate on it without knowing a thing about it" bandwagon that it's crazy. It might turn out to be a terrible film, but I'm at least going to watch it and make my own decision. It makes sense to me that in the Ghostbusters universe that after the events of the first two films there might be other people who go into Ghostbusting, so I see no problem with an all female team of Ghostbusters.

my point of view on this is that there is a multiverse. and that events play out in all type of ways.
if this is a follow on from GB 1 and 2, that's all cool.
but if this is a full reboot.
then i will just view this as a peek in to a universe that had a female teem and not male.
  • ShibShib Member Posts: 5,460
I was under the impression that it's actually part of the same universe as the first two, so something of an indirect sequel - but because the term reboot gets thrown around so much these days there's no knowing if it is actually a reboot or not until it's actually out.

'Other people' in this case being a team of girls that exactly matches the original team (in ethnicity, nerd, height and 'cool' -ness factors) and drive their car (or at least stand in front of it).  Don't get me wrong, I would like more action from the ghostbusters version of NY, but experience has shown me that whenever you dig up an old franchise, trying to shoehorn modern ideas into the old style isn't the way forward.  Also, the thing that made the original great and not just good, was the team (and some of the other cast to be fair).  The actors they chose actually came together on screen in a compelling way - beyond the writing.  Trying to recreate this is going to be difficult, if not impossible - assuming they don't achieve it (the likely outcome) then we will just get bad dialogue and an average storyline.  I hope I am wrong, but I'm not holding my breath.

From a marketing standpoint, a Groundhog Day set might be good for TLG. Everyone would just keep buying it over again, and again, and again, and again....

And probably a clock, and maybe a sound brick that plays the first few bars of the song, that'd be cool.

You could have the hotel room where he wakes up everyday, and the bathroom where he tries and does kill himself. That would be fun! But I think either the diner scene would be great when his crew joins him at a table full of food.

You will be when you see the price tag - £59.99.

Licenced sets cost more right, so it's OK even though the price per brick is a bit high.

Yeah, the amount of blind hatred I've seen for the new Ghostbusters movie has been ludicrous. I haven't seen a whole lot about it, but what I have seen — the new proton packs, the new Ecto-1, the new costumes — seems genuinely pretty good. But some people can't look past the gender of the characters because they imagine it to be a part of some huge feminist conspiracy and not just, you know, making some harmless changes because the old actors aren't all available.

Can you imagine if people reacted this way to any other reboot? "The Star Trek reboot's Enterprise crew is young! Our childhoods are being ruined by elderly-hating radicals! It's the next stage in the war on old people!" Or "The new Star Wars movie is has British- and Guatemalan-born lead actors! J.J. Abrams must hate America!"

If the new Ghostbusters movie sucks, then that's the way the cookie crumbles, but I guarantee you it won't be because of the gender of the lead actors. And since bringing back all the original team was not an option, no harm in giving some new people a shot. Worst case scenario, it will be a bad movie and nobody will try rebooting Ghostbusters again. But the possibility of "no more reboots" is a risk that people who never wanted a reboot in the first place should be able to live with.

I was perfectly fine with missing Haunted House. Content with my decision to pass. Rarely even thought about it. And then 5 minutes ago, my son saw a picture of it while looking at a list of the largest sets ever released. Of the entire list, he picked one out. "I WANT THAT HAUNTED HOUSE!" NOOOOOOOOOO!!! And now I cave...

@Yodalicious, stay strong, when they do this, put your fingers in your ears & pretend you can't hear them, they will eventually get bored & walk away, failing that, buy them the rest of the Arctic sets... Unfortunately James can make very compelling arguments for why we should get sets from time to time.

Hmmmm.  I have two of those and a yippy little dog at my house.  All three of them seem to be able to dictate terms at will...

They managed to convince me that they needed their own CMF collection.  (And through a stealthy conspiracy with their grandmother, they managed to accomplish their goal.)

But - to quote my eight year-old: "We only wanted Series 10 and after, because people on eBay may try to rip us off.  And we like the Bee Girl."
