As collectors, I'm sure a lot of us have a bit of a backlog of sets that we own and intend to build, but have not had the time, space, or whatever to build. What sets do you currently have in your backlog? Please only include sets that you currently own and intend to open and build.
Here is mine, along with how I am planning on displaying/grouping them (I have some plans in mind, but I need more shelving!):
The Vampyre Hearse#9468
Zombie Chauffeur Coffin Car#30201
Ghostbusters Firehouse HQ#75903
Halloween Accessory Pack
Temple of Light#70728
Battle for Ninjago City#70734
Master Wu Dragon#70737
Titan Mech Battle#70751
Temple of Airjitzu
The Simpsons House#71016
Undersea Explorer (not space, but will fit in with the rest)#30315
Space Utility Vehicle#70704
Superman vs Power Armor Lex
Buy. Take Home / Await Delivery. Build
Then again, I don't have a huge number of sets to begin with, so it's not difficult.
I already have the shelf designated for the Modulars, but I'm still working out how to arrange everything else...
- last flight of the destiny bounty
- tower of orthanc
- parisian restaurant
- vampyre castle
- the milano spaceship rescue
All Scooby Doo sets bar the Mystery Machine and Plane which have already been built.
Star Wars Star Destroyer, Falcon (not the most current one, the one before), Death Star and AT AT.
Monster Fighters Hurst and Vampyre Castle (we build one new Monster fighters set each Halloween)
Most LOTR and hobbit sets including Tower of Orthanc (really would like to display them somehow but struggle with where and how).
The Death Star and Orthanc I'm keeping back for another couple of years until all my boys can help builds.
Got other sets too I've bought but no real desire to build so sure they'll be sold off at some point.
Ewok Village, Ewok Attack, Battle of Endor, AT-ST, Shuttle Tydirium
UCS Millennium Falcon
UCS Imperial Star Destroyer
The others are still sealed, so less desire to crack open.
UCS Super Star Destroyer
right now that list is,
8x mixles S5.
10218 Pet shop, (this set is 50% done) trying to find the cash to get 1 more of this set's so i can moc 2 pet shop half's in to one big 32x32 build,
items that are on there way to me,
Simpsons house, Temple of Airjitzu, Dr who, a little 7.99 ninjago dragon.
Lone Ranger Silver Mine
Winter Village Cottage
Winter Village Market
There's also few random smaller sets like Research Institute that tend to get eclipsed by either larger or more exciting sets when I do actually get the time...
My backlog is actually in boxes in my closet.
But seriously, I have a 3-year-old and a 3-month-old, so building time is limited, but after coming out of my dark ages 4 years ago and seeing the going rate for many of the retired sets I would have wanted, I decided not to wait too long on something I truly desired even if it meant it would sit in a box in my closet for a while.
I've paid "retired" prices for 5 sets and I'm determined that those 5 will be the only ones I do that for (although there is a Harry Potter set or 2 screaming at me to hunt for). And the painful part is that all 5 were on shelves when I was back collecting again, so I could have had them at retail. So no more waiting for me. I may wait for a nice discount here or there, but for the most part I don't wait too long.
If it's truly sets that I haven't purchased yet that I want, they're all still readily available and relatively new.
But to give you an idea of my unbuilt, closet collection:
Trevi Fountain, Leaning Tower of Pisa, Garbage Truck, High-Speed Passenger Train, Detective's Office, Parisian Restaurant, Jokerland, Spider-Man Hideout, Iron Skull Sub Attack, Final Flight of Destiny's Bounty, City of Stiix, Attack of the Morro Dragon, Titan Mech Battle, Airjitzu Morro, Airjitzu Wrayth, Mystery Machine, Slave 1, Poe's X-Wing, Hogwarts Castle, Hogwarts Express, Diagon Alley...
...both of the most recent Millenium Falcons and the entire LotR theme. But those are for my boys and will remained boxed up until they're ready.
viking ship midgard serpent

#5590 whirl and wheel (for my briclink to verify i have all parts)
garmadon monster truck
titan mech battle

city of stiix
its a bit weird! when i find time for some lego. most of the time gets wasted with me admiring my collection ...
for cash or fun take your pic.
Also on the pile of shame are;
A train or two
The old Quintet from ages ago
A few Technics but mainly Unimog, Volvo and that big white 'plane.
A couple of Galaxy Squad sets.
I have a half-built Mars Rover and an unloved DeLorean.
Plus a few layouts and MOCs to get around to.
Blimey. I feel bad now I've written it all down.
IDEAS Dr Who
But there is a part of me what wonders if/when I'll ever get around to them. I also have considered turning Tower Bridge into a Modular of sorts. I've seen some neat Churches made out of it online. I haven't ever seen TB anywhere for LUG shows, so I may just build it to take to one of them.
I'm also torn on Kwik-e-Mart considering the Simpson House just sits there. I May turn that into a modular also. And I do have plans on expanding Helm's Deep eventually.
Currently have about 30 boxed sets to build ranging in size from #9462 to #76023.
I also have 3x 45l plastic containers with bagged up parts to make versions of #10143 , #10030 & #10179 (not being a complete purist they do have some internal parts in different colours and mould variations but it was the only way to build them without selling kidneys)
backlog = you will always have something to build when you are in the mood.
i have already had to brake down a set just to rebuild it when i ran out of stuff to build before Christmas.
saying that. if your backlog get to say over 40 set's you need to build faster :p
Posting a list would be too much effort, so here's a picture.
Originally I bought the comic book sets primarily for the minifigs, for baddies and goodies for my kids to play with. The sets usually disappoint, there are only so many generic cars I can build.
So I also have a ton of unbuilt Marvel, DC and (some) Star Wars sets, or more accurately a lot of them ended up in the main unsorted stash. A few might yet get built.
Funnily enough the opposite would be true if I ever bought the simsons house. That model appeals to me so much more than those minifigs.
ummm you could say that of any and all lego set's
Besides the B-Wing. I think that may be out of scale.
Or perhaps Maxifig?
Do you actually go round stomping your feet in padded underwear?
SumoFig? Maybe I need to reserve that avatar...
I just thought it would be interesting if you did. Pity.
It does have a certain ring to it...
