New here, I have a question.
Hey everyone, very new to collecting minifigures. My collection began with Darth Revan. My quesion is: If I take it out of the polybag, do I destroy its value (similar to other collector hobbies)?

welcome to the hobby you'll will quickly learn that Lego is much better out of its seals than in them.
"Destroy" is perhaps a strong word, but the short answer to your question is: Yes, if you open the packet it will be worth less than if you keep it sealed. If you nose around the forum, you will find several threads regarding keeping sealed vs opening. It really depends if you are looking to make money or to simply enjoy your LEGO.
Over time, some sets / figures end up being worth more than their original RRP, even open (e.g. #6866) but for maximum return, don't crack the seals.
I would hope it's the former, so rip it open, toss the bag, and enjoy the figure! Who cares if it's worth $10 instead of $20 in 5 years time...
An open / used bag doesn't guarantee anything.
You might want to decide what you want to display - figures or polybags (or both). There are people that enjoy both types of display. Decide what you are and go from there.
That is like trying to keep your cake and eating it too. ;-)
B.t.w.
Darth Revan is a cool minifig; so just build him and display the figure. At least that is what I did with it.
With most collectibles; they are there for your enjoyment, but we all enjoy things differently. There are many of us that have a lot of money tied up in our collection and if there were anything to happen, like a fire or flood, we would want full replacement value. Also, if you were to fall on hard times and need to sell your collection; you would want as much money as possible.
Once I win the $800M PowerBall Lottery, you'll see some radical changes to Bricklink...
And we won't have to worry about hosting fees the forum.
Dude! You forgot to put his cape on!
Plenty of people here display poly bags. Not my thing, but if they like it, I can understand why.
(For those on the other side of the pond, crisps are "potato chips").

pretty hilarious, suggesting this collector to buy 6 of each from you, now I am picturing you kind of like some of those used car salesmen. Very sly. ;-)
