LEGO sets to buy

edited February 2020 in Buying & Selling Topics
Well now, LEGO sure surprised us with the announcement of two SW sets for next year. While I am interested in Ben Hut (need to check what I will do with another Ben, 3PO and Luke figures) I like another Tusken Raider added to my ranks. The Hut seems to be complete and that is a rarity for licensed sets as a whole. I am surprised we haven't gotten word of new summer and fall 2019 sets but as I understand the fall sets are largely: Rise of Skywalker, The Mandalorian and Jedi Fallen Order from what I have understand and as such under heavy compartment.

Hello, in the my mind so far there are a couple of sets I am aiming to acquire if the ca$h is available. Without further ado here is my list (this list will be updated during the entire year when I can but so far this is final from me as I need cash for College):
    Star Wars:
-Assault on Hoth, x4 SW Batllefront Empire Battlepacks, x2 SW Battlefront Rebel Battlepacks, x1 of each of the SW the Force Awekens BP, x1 X-Wing Microfigther (Quinjet of AoU needs a pilot), x1 Tie Advance Prototype (the pilot is going to my Shuttle Tyderium), maybe Hoth Attack.
    Marvel:
-Avengers Space Mission, maybe Black Panther Jet and maybe Crossbones Escape.
    City:
    -Ferry

    Brick Bank

    GBHQ

    Dr. Who

    ?Assault on Hoth

    ?Death Star remake

  • eastonlioneleastonlionel Member Posts: 14
    Creator Corner Deli

SW Droid Escape Pod, Carbon Freezing Chamber, Hoth Attack

There appears to be a lot missing at this point from the 2016 catalog in the SW line.  I'm expecting most of the new larger sets will be TFA, in which case I'll pass.  A number of the larger OT sets retired this year: AT-AT, Imperial Star Destoyer, and this week, Death Star.  I think it may be a dry spell in 2016 for larger OT sets.

All of the MARVEL stuff except for the Mighty Micros (if they were more like the series 1 & 2 of the SW Microfighters, I would consider them). I was considering the third series of Microfighters, but I feel these are a serious downgrade from series 1 & 2.

    I only have a few:

    Brick Bank
    Firehouse Headquarters
    The (new) Death Star (probably)
    (New) UCS Millenium Falcon (probably)
    2016 Winter Village set
  • CCCCCC Member Posts: 20,555
    So far I only see:

    CMF all series.
And a few bricks and pieces orders for new parts, and then BL orders.

    On my definite list are:

    #10251 Brick Bank
#70590 Airjitzu Temple Grounds - As long as it's a fitting addition to the Temple itself
    #21123 The Iron Golem
    #21124 The End Portal
    #21125 The Jungle Tree House
    #21126 The Wither
    #2016 Winter Village set
    #924 Space Transporter - I know it's not a 2016 set, but I need it!

If a UCS MF is released, as rumoured, I might just have to pick one up...

My 2016 Buy list is shaping as...

    CMF 15
    Creator Expert Brick Bank
    Creator 3n1 Corner Deli
    Creator 3n1 Lakeside Lodge
    Creator 3n1 Propeller Plane
    Creator 3n1 Tree House (Possibly)
    Creator 3n1 Lighthouse (Possibly)
    SW TFA Battlepack Resistance
    SW TFA Battlepack FO (x2)
    SW Resistance X-Wing Microfighter
    SW FO SnowSpeeder Microfighter
    SW Hoth Attack
    SW Droid Escape
    SW Battle on Takodana

If there is a UCS Falcon well then that will probably happen as well.

For those who would get a new UCS MF, does it matter if it is the design from the OT or TFM?
  • BumblepantsBumblepants Member Posts: 7,728
^I would prefer OT. Best idea would be to include parts to mod the radar either way but as that would cost extra I won't hold my breath Lego would do it.

So I'm just getting caught up on the #10179 remake rumors.  As someone who just cashed in some stocks to buy it, this angers me.  As a kid at heart who would love to be able to buy one at retail to assemble it also excites me.  So conflicted...

I think the one thing you can (probably) be certain of, is that if they do another UCS MF, it will most likely be quite different, build-wise, to #10179. There's 8 years worth of new parts available to them, so I can't see it just being a re-release. #10179 will still be #10179, and will probably still command high prices.

    UCS Snowspeeder :-)

I don't think I have room for a UCS Millennium Falcon unfortunately.

    I'm still catching up from 2015! :(

The only for sure thing on my list is the Brick Bank. If I have extra money during the year, I'd be looking at picking up the Ghostbuster's Firehouse. Anything else comes down to finding a good deal.

I tend to agree.  It will surely affect the temporary value, but since I didn't buy it for a quick resale, I have no concern with that.  I bought it to sit on for a long long time.  It will either be part of my retirement plan or something I hand down to my children.

I'll be happy either way.  I knew the risks going in and was comfortable with the worst case scenario.

I will say, it will cause me to no longer take Legos as an investment seriously anymore, and I'll just be buying them to collect / play with them with my kids.

So Hoth battle, Snowspeeder, Death Star, and Falcon? That is a lot of D2C Star Wars in one year.

Isn't this what the Brickset "Sets I want" feature is supposed to be used for?

bank, Deli, GB HQ, Garbage truck, ferry, 2016 winter village and possibly amusement park set.
Curious to see the Town theme for this year. Will it be an airport, farm, more construction?
In any case Ill likely be waiting a lot for sales on non-exclusive stuff and double points for the exclusives (like GB HQ and Bank)

Long term investments (10 years or more) are dangerous, much higher chance of there being a remake in the meantime. Also most sets tend to have a quick initial rise followed by a slower one at not much more than inflation. Selling a set every year and reinvesting is likely to be better for the pension plan.

Looking to get the bank, GB HQ, ferry, lakeside lodge, series 15 CMF's along with a number of other sets I hope to see come out later this year.  Also hoping for some new great Lego Ideas sets I really enjoy that theme.
  • matticus_bricksmatticus_bricks Member Posts: 651
If they do release another UCS Falcon, I imagine it will sell very very well to non-FOLs expecting to get rich after all of the articles there have been about #10179's aftermarket value.

Well, this is the first I've heard about a new Falcon. It seems a little strange since they just released a Millennium Falcon set, though not UCS. I was planning to get that after Christmas, actually, but now I'm not sure if I should wait. I don't mind if they make it OT or TFA either, as there really isn't much difference. I just really hope this one has an interior.

Brick Bank for sure, and then most if not all of the "good guys" Nexo Knights sets.  #31045 Ocean Explorer looks pretty tempting as well.

So far the must-buy's for me are the Brick Bank, just about every Force Awakens set, the Friends Supermarket and Cupcake Cafe, the Corner Deli, Garbage Truck, Ferry, and Series 15 Figures. For the Spring Wave I'll wait for more finalized pics but there are some really nice-looking ones at first glance.

    Brick Bank
Constraction Kylo Ren + Capt Phasma
    Lance's Mecha Horse
Battle at Takodana (if it goes on sale)
Perhaps some Nexo Ultimate sets to get minifigs of the good guys

First I've heard of UC Millennium Falcon return!! If that is true I just may have to get it if it is as awesome as the original. Considering UC Death Star, I'll have to see a picture of it to be certain.

Finally, these older sets I'll try to pick up early 2016:
    General Grievous
    Park Animals
    First Order Transporter

US January 2016 catalog available to view now:

(got mine in the mail today)

Has a nice fold-out picture of GB firehouse.
Nothing surprising, except that I am starting to not dislike Nexo Knights.

Built almost all of the Nexo Knights sets so far and I gotta say me and the kids love them.  The sets have some cool features and they look really cool, especially the Knights.

Brick Bank, GBHQ, Big Ben, and the Fairground Set, if it interests me
  • goshe7goshe7 Member Posts: 515
Fairground set, interesting CMF, 2016 Winter Village Bakery, cyberman dimensions pack.  If a creator train shows up, it is very likely that will make the list.  Big Ben is of potential interest.

Space and scuba Iron Man have me rethinking the prioritization of my Marvel minifigs collection.  Might have to enter the SW realm with TFA. Only deterrent is the completed collection will eventually have 4,754 minifigs, or so it would seem.

But seriously, most the new Star Wars sets and Superhero stuff. Most looking forward to getting all of BvS, Civil War, and TFA wave 2 sets! Glad the new SW battle packs are better for army building, though they could be improved.
Might get the Ghostbusters HQ and Brick Bank, but that depends on me winning the lottery! :(

    I'm sure about some sets:

    #75132 First Order BP x2
    #75131 Resistance BP
    #75140 Resistance Troop Transport
    #75133 Rebel Alliance BP
    #75134 Galactic Empire BP
#75143 A-wing Starfighter (when it will be released!)

I have doubts about other sets, but I think I'll buy one of these too:

    #75141 Kanan's Speeder Bike
    #75135 Obi Wan's Jedi Interceptor
  • B_HollsB_Holls Member Posts: 41
    Definitely:

    Not sure:
    • #75139 Battle on Takodana
    • #75101 First Order Special Forces Tie Fighter (when it goes on sale)
With only knowing the name of both the Ultimate Collectors sets this year I am definitely interested but it remains to be seen if they are both worth buying. Especial with blowing cash on the Ghost Busters set too.

My goal in 2016 is to spend as little as possible on LEGO products, instead spend more on MOC's, therefore my list is short. This year my main focus was on 'The Simpsons' and 'The Dark Knight' and now the 'Modular Buildings' are next!

    #10243 Parisian Restaurant
    #10246 Detective's Office
    #10251 Brick Bank

    #21302 The Big Bang Theory
    #76045 Kryptonite Interception
    #21305 Maze

    Maybe:
    #75827 Ghostbusters, Firehouse Headquarters
    #78159 Starkiller Base
#76046 Heroes Of Justice Sky High Battle
    #75105 Millennium Falcon

Fingers crossed we have another D2C Simpsons set, ideally 'The Android's Dungeon & Baseball Card Shop.'

I wanted to build by parts the Death Star II (10143-) in 2016, but all the pieces cost 620€... When Death Star II was released it cost only 300€... Someone has an idea to build it cheaper?

I might buy #70312 - Lance's Mecha Horse (Nexo Knights) for 2016. I might have this gut feeling that it could be a hard build, but for the record, I am quite certain it looks that great with Nexo Knights to debut for Lego in 2016.

    GB Firehall
    Brick Bank
    Carbonite Freezing Chamber

    SW Battle packs

Oh no... List is longer than I thought... Looks like I've got to talk to the wife again...

Going to Shepherd's Bush on New Year's Day. Getting the Brick Bank. Am I brave enough to also bring home the GB Firehouse HQ? She who must be obeyed may not be amused...

After that, it depends on whether there is another Simpson set, a decent train, a NEW WV set, or a replacement for the VW camper.

Did anyone else notice that the Fairground Mixer is in the January catalog but the Ferris Wheel is not?  Struck me as odd.  I hope the lack of focus on the 'amusement park rides' doesn't mean we won't get a new set this year.

Still holding out for a roller coaster at some point....
