^ Nice! I've had some great Walmart deals over the years, but it's been at least a year since the last decent clearance in my area.
  • Thanos75Thanos75 Member Posts: 1,120
They have been rare this past year down here aswell. I spent way more this year on Target clearance then I have on Wal-Mart.
  • pharmjodpharmjod Member Posts: 2,916
Maybe walmart is getting better at clearance. Mine has stuff in the aisle that has been there for two years on clearance. That's just dumb.

That's exactly what the ones near me do these days. Shove it in some different section of the store, mark it down $1 and label it Clearance. And there it sits...for months.

Seems to me that stores in crappy areas have better deals.
  • Thanos75Thanos75 Member Posts: 1,120
That's the key to finding good deals. The worse the neighborhood the better the deal.

I ended up buying via kijiji the original four 1989 Large Pirate sets: 6270 Forbidden Island, 6274 Caribbean Clipper, 6276 Eldorado Fortress and of course 6285 Black sea Barracuda for $150.  They had only been built once and were left that way on a shelf since the early 90s.  Only the instructions were missing, the lady pirate and a few of the palm leaves need replacing.

So I feel I should follow up my initial post about the Craigslist find. I picked everything up from my parents (they were my contact since the posting was in another town). All of the buildings were mostly complete with only a piece or two missing pieces. There were quite a few missing minifigures which I wasn't too worried about since I mainly want the buildings. All instructions were present and there were two boxes (Palace Cinema and Dino Defense HQ). All in all, still thrilled with the find. The buildings have been fun to examine built and I am in the process of disassembling them for storage to rebuild with my kiddo's later.

I went to a local Value Village (thrift store) and found #2504 Spinjitzu Dojo for $5! I did an inventory when I got home and there were only 21 pieces missing. Also included was a Zip-Loc bag with some of the pieces for #7279 Police Minifigure Collection, and a broken set of legs from #8827-13 Intergalactic Girl.

Since they had free shipping yesterday, I went to the online PaB to see how many of the parts I could replace (only 7 were available). I then thought, "well, let me see if I can knock more off of my BrickLink wanted lists," and ended up adding $70 worth of parts. At that point, I realized I was pretty close to getting the #40139 Gingerbread House, so I went ahead and also bought #75903 Haunted Lighthouse. Damn you, LEGO!

Just got #6276 and #6274 with box and instructions. Found them both for £20 each. The lego is a bit dirty so will wash it before building but overall very happy with my find!

Dutch general warehouse had a 1+1 sale last week, and also had a €10 off purchases of €50 and higher. They had a selection of Lego sets included in this sale, so my best purchase there was:
    41095 Emma's House, 2 for €60 - €10 discount = €25 per box. Dutch MSRP of this set is €74,99 so that's a really good discount. :-)

Just got a 4757 Hogwarts and a 4750 Draco and Buckbeak for $110 off CL.   Had to drive a bit bit it's for my wife so totally worth it.

I also got to have lunch at a place she normally doesn't let me eat at so I figure the two things cancel each other out.

Picked up 10 pounds of LEGO from a craigslist seller last month, just about finished sorting and building
    8086 Droid Tri-Fighter
    8093 Plo Koon's Jedi Startfighter
    8039 Venator-Class Republic Attack Cruiser
    3826 Build-a-Bob
Most of the minifigs are missing, as are the canopies for the StarWars sets. 3826 is maybe 50% complete, and there is still over a pound left unsorted.
    Paid $20 US

Just picked up #75095 and #75060 new in box for $150 for both.  Boxes aren't in the best shape but all the bags and manuals are still sealed. I was quite surprised when the seller told me $75 each and suspicious so I had to open the boxes to make sure everything was there. Early xmas for me!

I recently had some luck in a second hand market:
Once I found a big bag of dirty white, grey, black and dark red parts which I knew was Star Wars (some Imperial Stormtroopers lookalikes and R2-esque figures) but looked like prequel material so I only had minimal interest - they lost me after A Phantom Menace. And on top of that I don't know anything about Star Wars lego so I had no way of knowing what was there and if it looked to be complete so I almost left the bag there. The one thing that pulled me over was some part that was left constructed which could only be a TIE Interceptor wing so hoping for the best I bought the bag for the princely sum of €8.50. Once taken home and given a good cleaning I started puzzling and turns out there were the following sets:
    #6205 V-Wing Fighter
    #6206 TIE Interceptor and
#7259 ARC-170 (which is the children's favourite and I let them as it keeps them away from 'my' #6206 ;)
All complete but for some small common parts, sadly without instructions but not unhappy with it :D
Second lucky find was another bag with #6989 Mega Core Magnetizer including instructions, complete but for one black 1 x 2 technic brick and two trans neon green 1 x 1 round plates for €10. And if that wasn't enough it also included an extra #6833 Beacon Tracer and, for some unfathomable reason, an extra part 2409 (trans neon green quarter dome)?!

just managed to pick up the Ninjago set 70722 for £8 off my local market. Not bad I thought given that there's one for sale on eBay now for £87! As a source of parts it's a bargain and my ninjago-living sons will appreciate the minifigures :)

That Build-A-Bob alone goes for $25-30 on eBay (plus S/H).

Went to a Walmart, and found a Minecraft Micro World The End sitting on a shelf with a sticker pricing it at $15.00.

This Walmart has had like 4 of these forever, and only recently marked them down from $34 to $30.

I price scanned it, and it scanned at $30. I took it up to the register anyway, made sure the cashier saw the $15, and when she rang it up it of course came up as $30. She called the manager over, he scanned it, it came up as $30, said something about "it ended up with the wrong sticker on it" but told her to reprice it to $15 anyway.

    DEAL!
Samukai will be the only minifig that'd be hard to get (aside from getting a first gen samurai helmet for Lord Garmadon). Other than that, Nya might be more difficult as she was quite scarce in the first year of sets compared to the other ninja.

Sounds good but condition would be a great factor to truly judge.

Not really recent, but I think my best score was a SW lot through Craigslist this past January with the latest AT-AT and Snowspeeder, the Ghost, and the Clone Wars Magnaguard Ship for $40.  There weren't any instructions or boxes, the Snowtroopers were missing their kamas and Zeb was missing his weapon, but everything else was there.  The person I bought the stuff from seemed like a pleasant high school kid, and he knew how much the sets cost, but all he said was that he figured he'd be able to unload them quicker if he set them at a good price.
