    I didn't get an invite this year, but I am ok with it. I have to work. Plus, there isn't anything I want. The freebies are meh.

    From what others have posted, there's also the 2016 Lego calendar with purchases over $75 in-store.  I think people were saying that one has coupons in it.  So there's that.

    The calendar might be worth getting. Last year's had a coupon for January that was good for a free Lego store employee minifigure (5001622), which was hard to come by in the U.S. The February coupon was for a free minifigure (only 1) from the build-a-minifigure rack and March's was for the Hoth Han Solo from May the Fourth a few years ago. Hopefully the 2016 calendar has offers as good.

    The LEGO employee was given out of over the span of a month at [email protected] I think for any LEGO purchase in the US (forget when that occurred though) so not that rare I think. I had a bunch of calendars from last year from buying at the store, and I definitely used the coupons and I think it will be more of the same type of giveaways. I'm guessing likely Yularens will be the SW figure as I think LEGO still has a bunch of those (ALA Hoth Han).
    The difference with the calendar this year is the coupons will be spread over the year, and having a longer lifespan of just 30 days as I LEGO apparently got a lot of complaints from parents who had to go to the LEGO store once a month, many Im sure in winter conditions (Ie extreme cold, snow, etc) to cash them in. So LEGO apparently is trying to spread out the time to use the coupons, which is fine by me.

    The other issue I had was the coupon for A BaF instead of a set of 3, I think it confused the stores as some thought it was for a 'clamshell' of figures and not just one figure, also having to use a clamshell for one figure was silly. I hope they at least expand that to be for one set of 3 BaF instead.

    If LEGO decides to provide the employee figure again I think it would make sense and definitely make them more 'common'

    Just as a heads up, someone over on "the other site" mentioned that a seller on eBay has pre-sold 65 of the gingerbread houses from an astounding $35 EACH!  

    Though the one I get will be going straight to my wife (she LOVES the pictures of it) there's another consideration when trying to get a discount on exclusives.  

    Heck, if you sold yours for that much a $100 item would be around $65 (assuming $10 in double VIP points and a net profit of $25 for the house.)  That is of course if you can keep it away from your family!  ;-)

    First, not sure how eBay could allow 'pre-sells' of an item that cannot be purchased.It is a gift if you buy more than x dollars in stuff and even then there is no guarantee that you will get one (especially if LEGO stops you)

    Second, I think that just reinforces the old saying 'a sucker born every minute'. Even if people are going to buy one on the secondary market because they do not want to buy a LEGO set to get it, it seems mighty silly to buy one for 35 dollars. People would be better off buying a 99 USD set from LEGO and get the set.. but to each their own I guess.

    20% was the best on any real sets, including Town Square and Heavy Haul Train (which we all know has been much cheaper on Amazon in the past).

    Yep :). You can still work out a decent discount on exclusives if you sell the freebie. My last 2x VIP was $99.97 (Toy Shop + Thanksgiving X2) but still qualified for the Holiday Train, which I later off loaded on eBay for $30. 

    I agree with @madforLEGO in that if I wanted one of the promos to the point where I was willing to spend $30 dollars then I would just buy a $100 set and consider it 30% off. That's a decent deal on any set, but even better on an exclusive. At the same time I understand how others may not want anything other than the promo so spending an additional $70 on stuff you don't really want doesn't make sense - no matter how good of a deal it is.

    That's really what I've run up against: no discounts on exclusives has turned me into a reseller.  I really like the UCS sets (and some exclusives) but in the case of the sandcrawler there just weren't any deals (for me, at least.)  So today I was able to justify the purchase because in my mind I was getting "$30" back on the gingerbread house and $30 in VIP points.

    Of course that all went to pot when my wife saw the promo picture, and suddenly the woman who NEVER puts up any Christmas decorations "had to have" it!  Oh well...  :-)

    Fairly certain the Heavy Haul train has not been on sale on either Amazon US or UK at this point, but the City Square has and you are right it is a much better deal. I went this morning, but was fairly disappointed that there were no gift bags like last year, but still picked up a Heavy Haul train and a Lincoln Memorial as that was also on sale for 20%.
    Got the Gingerbread house and calendar, sadly no advanced opportunity to get that Christmas tree ornament.

    January-March: Redeem coupon for a Free creator Parrot with any purchase (looks to be like a polybag).
    April-June: Redeem the coupon for 100 Bonus points with any VIP purchase
    July-September: Redeem the coupon for a Free Exclusive LEGO Minifigure with any purchase, and the picture is a question mark, so not known yet what that fig would be. Although looking again it appears to be a Nexo Knight figure (has the Nexo Knights icon over it) :-(

    And you do not get them for every month, it is when that coupon can be redeemed in case of any questions about that.

    Pretty uninspired IMO, at least last year it was worth it to redeem all the coupons. With these I see the 100 bonus points the only thing worth going to the store to redeem.

    I don't know why they decided to go this way.
    IIRC, last year's calendar pretty much forced you to use the coupon since it was good for only one month.

    From a business POV, you have customers continually coming back whereas the 2016 calendar has you coming back for periods of months and for less.

    I was very disappointed that there wasn't any goody bag or discount coupon or ANYTHING for coming in early. What was the point of getting up early on a Saturday if I could get all the same deals later that day?

    Yeah I mean even last year they gave out little goody bags with random gifts, this year everyone came in and browsed. The one bright spot were the Heavy Haul train, Lincoln Memorial, City Square, and some other sets being 20% off, but that was about it.


    As for the underwhelming coupons, LEGO got a lot of complaints about people having to go to the LEGO store each month for Jan-March to redeem coupons. So those in the south, not a big deal, to those up in the northern parts of the US, sometimes the weather does not always agree with getting somewhere, so I think LEGO did it this way to spread it out better, but that was when people thought the calendars would be at least like those last year, with what I would consider decent offers. The ones this year, aside from the 100 bonus points one, are pretty weak in general.

    Is the gingerbread house available to VIP's in the store after the event? I didn't get an invite but don't want to waste my time to go to the Lego store if it is online only.

    I have had coupons on calendars from other companies that chose to spread it out, but they would have two coupons labeled: Jan-Feb not just one. And you had a limit of one coupon per transaction. So if you didn't want to drive in so often you could do two transactions in one day. 
    The purpose of the coupons are to encourage people to come in to the store. Spreading it out really defeats that point IMO. 
    Oh well.

    Not sure about other stores, but they allowed a max of three gingerbread houses and calendars per customer.  Nice that I didn't have to make separate transactions to get the freebies.  My total was just over $300 and was able to get all six freebies.

    I think the store I went to said unofficially that the limit was 2 houses for purchases. Not sure how much you had to purchase to be able to get an extra one. Interesting though and makes me wonder if LEGo thinks that they may not give them all away , or they made a TON of them to for the promo.

I was a little surprised they didn't at least give out an ornament. I've been invited to this event since the store opened and I hate to say it, I didn't feel appreciated by Lego. The employees were great as always but I think Lego is getting a little too big for it's own good.

    Was hoping the ornament as well, guess we'll have to wait until dec 7th when the Christmas tree ornament promo becomes available

    I can't speak for others, but I thoroughly appreciated the hour of early access for invitees. I almost never shop at my local LEGO store, due to the invariably crowded conditions. I arrived a scant quarter hour before the store was set to open its doors to the hoi polloi, but that was more than enough time to enjoy a leisurely browse through the store, take my sweet time at the PAB wall, and pay without waiting uncomfortably for half an eternity in an endless line. My primary motivation in going was my hope that the store would still be carrying a Tower Bridge set ("temporarily" sold out online for quite some time now), which was indeed available. Total haul was one large PAB cup, the louvre, the UN, two Duplo sets—Number Train and My First Bus (I'm bursting with impatience for the next few months to go by and my new nephew to be old enough to enjoy these!), and the Tower Bridge. (And the gingerbread house and calendar, but those don't count seeing as they were "free").
    I spent over $400 pre-tax, yet only received one gingerbread house and one calendar. I didn't expect to get more than one of each—from what I recall detailed in the terms & conditions on the invite both giveway items had the standard "one item per purchase/customer/household/family unit/whatever" limit. Cheers to those lucky spenders who received more—I envy you you're good fortune, but do not begrudge you one bit for it, enjoy your bonus rewards in good health!

    I split my purchases in 2 and got 2 gingerbread houses and 2 calendars. No having to beg or pull teeth.

    My store actually gave us a gift bag with a bunch of polybags in it. They looked like all leftover ones the store had on hand, but it was quite a few. There were only three I didn't have though.

    From memory they were:
    Lego Store Employee
    Train Ornament (in the really nice red bag)
    Ninjago Kai Drifter
    Mini MINI Cooper
    Worriz's Fire Bike
    Azari's Magic Fire
    Hoth Han
    Winter Soldier

    I think that was it.

    Initially I was told that the calendar and Gingerbread House wouldn't stack, unless I could "unstack" the transaction into a $99 one and a $75 one. When I asked again I was told they would.

    I ended up buying the Red Five X-Wing. It's been listed as Sold Out online for a while now and I was surprised to find it. I feel like it could just end up coming back in stock (I was told they got two shipments of it in the past week) but better safe than sorry since I thought I missed it in the first place. I also got the Elves Pegasus Sky Sleigh for my fiance for Christmas.

    I was quite surprised honestly. The only big issue was the card machine went down right away and they had to reboot it.

    Although the mall my local Lego store is at apparently prevents people from parking there too early during the holiday season. I spent five minutes driving around trying to find an open parking lot before asking one of the security guys because everything was barricaded or roped off. I guess they do it to make sure that employees can park without an issue.
