I asked the store chap in Westfield Stratford about the Pet Shop and Palace Cinema and he was honest enough to admit that he simply didn't know when they might retire.

I resent the greedy wankers who are so obsessed with owning a set they will pay these inflated prices.   Their greed really hurts the pure-of-heart AFOL.
I find this confusing.  Not sure how someone who is 'greedy' pays inflated prices.  My impression of greed would be to pay the lowest price... and then sell to someone else for more.
You can be greedy for more things than just money.  Greedy for goods, with the means to materialize that greed, are the individuals I am referring to.

The latest I heard, and the usual disclaimer about 'they are employees so they likely do not know', is that the store I frequent is reporting a big shipment (ie bigger than usual) is coming in for Pet Shop. Implying that when that has occurred with other sets in the past, they no longer get them in the store and are usually retired shortly thereafter. Again take it for whats its worth, but seeing as Pet Shop is near retirement 'age' it does not surprise me if it is really going to be EOL shortly.

Also regarding the DS, seeing it is still in stock at Amazon (after some time now) I wonder if even the resellers have had enough of the DS hanging around.

Pet shop is 2 per limit on s@h uk, could be a sign that it's going, but who knows was Lego
  • LegoboyLegoboy Member Posts: 8,827
^Possibly, although more likely to ration stock leading upto to the big day if they are really struggling to produce.

So I have a NYCC tahu mask along with tahu and a protecter. I also have the promo bag with the trans neon orange mask.

Would it it be in my best interest to sell it now before the 2015 Tahu is discontinued or keep it.

Would something like the NYCC Tahu mask continue to increase in value or decrease?
  • JamesJTJamesJT Member Posts: 440
Has the "recently sold out or discontinued" page been repalced by a "buy discontinued set" amazon advert?
  • TheLoneTensorTheLoneTensor Member Posts: 3,937
Speaking of Amazon, is it just me, or have 3rd party sellers (of anything) gotten out of hand with pestering for feedback?  It seems I can't buy anything these days without getting a follow-up email (sometimes more) asking me how much I like my purchase and to leave feedback.

I thought that was just some automated thing Amazon sends to you so you'll keep crawling back to buy more. Am I mistaken?

eBay seller stores have a feedback reminder built in, I believe.

I can't imagine an exclusive mask like that decreasing significantly in the future—it's not like it's liable to get any less exclusive than it already is, especially if you have it in its original packaging.

That said, I have no idea how much or how quickly it would appreciate in value...

I heard that Disney will be trying to distance itself from "Slave Leia."  Does anything think that will have an effect on Slave Leia figurines/sets?

  • SumoLegoSumoLego Member Posts: 15,248
If they produce another Sail Barge, it'll have an appropriately attired Leia.

It's just as iconic and the cinnabuns hairdo, I'd be very surprised if it didn't reappear in the future at some point.

And if you really want one, they made a bazillion keychains.

Keychains? I have about 10 of the slave girl Leia in the form of early magnet sets (That can detach from their magnets). Im sure there are those here that have far more of them as well.

Has anyone heard anything on the longevity of 10237 Ewok Village? I could really, really do without having to buy it before Christmas, but could also really, really do without the "fun" I had obtaining an Orthanc this summer after it discontinued.
I bought 10237 yesterday at the Lego Store in Budapest, Hungary. The guy selling it to me said that it was the last one they had and they wouldn't receive any more. It certainly was the only box of it they had on the shelves.

I know infos like this one coming from store clerks are not necessarily reliable, but I thought I'd still put out here what I had been told.
the info in croatia is the same. Its first in line to retire

Nope, however seeing the European graphs were still quite interesting to look at. Sometimes sets go eol in Europe before the US so it was nice to know when a set was about to dissapear.

The larger JW sets are available in the UK at S@H. The only sold out sets are the #75920 raptor escape and the #71205 Dimensions pack. Not sure if the sets were not as popular this side of the pond but I have seen these sets available in other locations. (Just can't remember where as I was shopping with she who must be obayed and didn't really pay much attention to which shops we we going in or out of). So not sure how much you would gain after selling fees etc.
all of the jurasic park sets are available here in croatia. Even the polys come reguraly every 2, 3 weeks (have managed to snag 150ish of them till now :D ).
I even decided to buy 2x 75919 for 166 gbp as a future investment :)
  • urieluriel Member Posts: 192
as for discontinued sets, what are your guys comments on the #30304 poly? Its nowhere to be found anymore (I'm one of the rare sellers on ebay).
  • VorpalRyuVorpalRyu Member Posts: 2,318
Last I heard, #30304 is still available in some parts of the USA & Canada, but when on the phone to CS a couple of weeks back, they told me that they were done & dusted six months ago... Again the BS of "sorry Australia, none for you, suck a big one, but thank you supporting our company." :(

IMHO polys are one of those things that even if they double or triple in price, they aren't worth the effort to sell on.  There are rare exceptions, like the mini VW bus, but by and large, polys are polys.

There are always exceptions to the 'rule', but it does not make it the 'rule'. IM sure there are those that can sell these easily, but having many spares myself and trying to sell them, it is not always easy to do. Polys are great, but I think @TheLoneTensor is also referring to costs of shipping, fees from sites like BL and eBay that tend to wash out the profits of them, especially when comparing them to things like selling modulars and the like.

I don't, but many people use them to keep up selling minimums for sites like Amazon and eBay to be able to sell during Christmas on Amazon and keep power seller status on eBay.

I only bought 15 of the gallimimus trap poly. I wish I'd have gotten 100.

Meanwhile, there's the pending local government pension disaster, but who cares when they can complain about an action figure!

The news media (conservative and liberal) drudges up stories like this to keep the sheep being sheep. God forbid if the general masses actually thought about the real issues going in in the world, let alone the US.
