What was your first Lego set?

  For me, it was #6512 when I was 4. Guess it was the parents thinking "let's buy a small set to see if he likes it". Looking at the list of town sets from 1992 onwards that I remember having as a kid, the answer was that I most definitely loved Lego! Biggest regret to this day was selling the lot during my late teenage dark years.

  #6810 Laser Ranger was mine - had played with my cousin's Lego for years and eventually decided to spend some of my pocket money to start my own collection. Loved this little swoosher, so many parts for such a small set too, could build all sorts of things with it. And no, I don't have it, my mom gifted it and the rest of my childhood Lego collection to one of the neighbour's kids.

  The first set I remember was #378 - Tractor... My parents still have it in the "grandchildren's LEGO box", although a little wearworn now...

  I think #6080 was my first set. I'd played with some space and fabuland stuff before that, but i think those belonged to my sister.

  #6810 Laser Ranger. My cousin gave it to me in a zip lock bag back when I was 5 or something. I don't have that anymore, but I hunted a sealed one on eBay. Almost similar to Aleydita's story lol

  6929 was my first set, though my father thinks it was 918.  I'll probably have to take his word as he would have bought it for me

  #1796 Freestyle Bucket was my first. I must have received it when I was 3 or 4 one Christmas and I have a few candid photographs from the day. Unlike most I never had a 'dark-age' and now 16 years on the very same Freestyle Bucket is currently sitting in my Brickcave next to my desk.

  590 Engine Company No. 9 I still have it, but not all original (some broken parts replaced, and pieces were mixed with other sets I had) I have it mostly sorted in a bag waiting it's turn to get cleaned and rebuilt.

  #730 Basic building set.  The timing of this thread is funny because I've been searching for a long time to figure out what the set was.  I was 5-9 years old and could only remember it had a windmill, the house had a lot of windows and a red roof.  I finally just found the set number last week and was able to purchase one off bricklink with the box and instructions included! Cant wait for it to arrive!

  The earliest specific one that I can remember was 6896-1 Celestial Forager from M-Tron (aka the "poor man's Mega Core Magnetizer," lol). I also seem to have had a bunch of bricks before that, maybe a bulk set that my parents had got me. I kept them in a blue plastic case similar to this.

  I think it was the small corner houses 212/213 and the 236 garage. Later on I had 211 the small house and the 255 fire engine, traffic signs 232 and trees 230. Unfortunately, I lost them all (like all later sets), last seen around 1966. Got back into Lego when my oldest son got a police heli, and first purchased the 6896 Celestial Forager which I spotted on the shelf of a friend in 1993. 35 years between 212 and 6896 :-)

  To be honest, I really can not remember!
  
  Having an older brother and lots of handdowns from family friends (including Fabuland stuff from the mid / late 70s) I was surrounded by Lego from the get go.
  
  I recently got all my old Lego from my parents cellar, but unfortunately there was only 1 instruction manual amongst the huge box of bricks (it was the only technics sets we ever had I remember my brother getting it).
  After sorting & cleaning them all I've gone through and looked for specific parts (printed or rare) and tried to determine the sets they were from and rebuilding them - others I found via the figures we had.
  I've managed to build lots of the sets so far, but I still have heaps I've not been able to place for sure. I presume we had a lot of smaller sets (considering I still have around 40 classic space figures unaccounted for). The very last set I remember getting (which I actually left assembled for over 20 years and it still is now after a good clean) was 6783

  I was 3 when I started receiving LEGO sets (already received DUPLO).  I don't remember which one exactly was my first, but I do know that it was one of the following four sets:

  1560: Glory Glider
  1561: Stunt Chopper
  1562: Wave Jumper

  Wow, you guys are good.  If this thread was entitled what Lego set did you buy this time last week I would still struggle to answer.  I could check my emails for the answer to that one though.
  I guess some classic space set or other.  The one that I always remember looking at in the argos catalogue but not owning was this one: (funny how I remember the set I didn't have)

  @MattsWhat yes that is a gorgeous set. However, it has limited playability unless you build it into an extensive space landscape with lots of bases to be connected. Like the 6399 which is my MOST WANTED! :-)

  Those came in Kellogg's serial in the early 90's. I ate so much Froot Loops that year. I'd eat it for breakfast and dinner (lunch on a weekend) just for the parts.
  
  My first set was #720, I'm pretty sure. I remember my 5th birthday and building a boat, I found this by identifying the oldest parts in my collection and realizing that they were all from the same thing. Then I also remember my father taking me over to my grandmothers and having me build the Truck/Gas Station from the instructions to show her that I could.
