NYCC 2015

NYCC is 2 weeks away! It looks like LEGO will have a smaller booth again this year, similar to the size of last year's Bionicle display. Disappointing, but hopefully we get some exclusives.

I'll be there all 4 days!  I would love some exclusives, its a shame that SDCC gets all the good stuff

Good to have a place to keep NYCC info for this year compiled. So far only two LEGO-related panels have been confirmed: one for the next LEGO DC Super Heroes direct-to-DVD movie, and one for the new LEGO Marvel's Avengers video game. Neither panel has any reps from TLG listed so I don't think we can expect any set-related news from either of them. And Eurobricks started their raffle for LEGO-sponsored NYCC tickets last year at the beginning of September, so if LEGO were doing another private panel/event for LEGO fans like they did last year, I'm sure we'd have heard about it by now.

It's kind of unusual — I half expected the LEGO Group's presence at NYCC to increase more considerably in size this year, since last year NYCC actually surpassed SDCC in terms of total attendance numbers. But maybe the LEGO Group still expects SDCC to get more press coverage for one reason or another. After all, the media buzz is a big reason why they attend these sorts of events in the first place.

I expect one or two exclusives, but not sure for what themes. Another exclusive Bionicle mask would be pretty cool, but I think licensed themes like LEGO Star Wars and LEGO Super Heroes will probably get priority this year.

I would also expect some new set reveals, but not sure for which themes specifically. I strongly doubt the LEGO Group will dedicate their presence to any one particular theme as they did last year. Seeing at least one more of the LEGO Star Wars buildable figures from the January wave (like the First Order Stormtrooper revealed at SDCC) would not surprise me. Like perhaps Kylo Ren. Seeing another LEGO Super Heroes set, or perhaps the full version of the Batmobile set revealed at SDCC, would also not surprise me.

In terms of other LEGO partners, not sure what to expect. It'd be cool to get more news about the upcoming LEGO graphic novels from Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, but they do not appear to have a booth, so the only chance of that is really if they gave LEGO material to distribute at their booth (I believe that's what they did at SDCC this year, with a short preview of the Ninjago graphic novel).

    Looking forward to more news!

Not yet, but the recent social media teasers of the Doctor Who set from LEGO Ideas lead me to think that NYCC might be where we first see that set "in the brick".

I think I'll make it a point to go next year. I have family on NYC so maybe I can crash with them so I can go to the con.

As for exclusives, I hope it's nothing I want.
Superheroes and Doctor Who would break me!!

Some people on Eurobricks have pointed out that the panels in these photos seem like they might be meant to tie in with the Nexo Knights branding (Earth Blue bricks and yellow energy circuits). I personally did not expect the LEGO Group to announce Nexo Knights the same way they announced Bionicle, since unlike Bionicle or the various licensed themes it is not a franchise with an established fan community. But it's seeming more and more like that might be what they're doing.

The overall size of the booth doesn't seem much different than it was at last year's NYCC. Not sure if that's any indication of what kind of exclusives might be available.

Seems like the time of year we might expect to see the January releases revealed. The next UCS set perhaps? Or just a general preview of what will come out then...

The odd nice part but it's probably not for me! They say it is modern, but it looks very 1980s to me.

Similarly I can see a few interesting parts, and I'm sure I'll acquire a couple of sets for parts at some point but it's definitely a theme for kids more than AFOLs.
I have a little more interest in some of the "baddies" sets as they seem to be more magic/fantasy based so would likely be more useful to me personally.

These sets remind me of the scary 90's, especially with those big printed castle wall pieces and all the other bulky pieces that make it look like a junior build.

Though the 90's did have some great little accessory molds and I can see that here too. The new book piece looks a lot better than the old one and some of those armor pieces would be great for sci fi builds.

^ Agreed.  The whole Nexo Knights thing seems like something Fisher Price would do, not Lego.

I think these are awesome. Bright colors for the good guys, dark colors (and super dark theme) for the bad guys. I grew up on Thundarr the Barbarian, Masters of the Universe, Thundercats, etc. This is right up my alley.

If you follow the gizmondo link in CCC's post, you can see the robo horse that comes with the Jestro set, it looks pretty awesome. And that is definitely a huge bat winged demon pulling Jestro's war wagon, flaming scythe and all. The brick built power armor looks cool too, kinda reminds me of the mobile infantry suits from Starcraft II.

The booth looks very fun, wish I could have gone this year! To everyone that got to go, hope you had a great time!

Total bust from a LEGO pov. NO exclusives. Just the intro of Nexo Knights, which are less impressive than I anticipated.

McFarlane has a ton of new "building" toys out. They look great, but do not mix well with LEGO. They are giving a ton of stuff for free. No freebies at LEGO.

Havent been to Mega Bloks yet, but looks like they're promoting Star Trek and something else.

I think they look interesting.  I like the color scheme of the tank/castle.  The printing on the figs look really cool.

But the big wall parts are a bit concerning.  Maybe LEGO is targeting a bit lower in regards to age range, like the Imaginext/LEGO Juniors range. :)

Definitely not. This gallery shows close-ups of the Comic Con displays, including signs identifying the piece counts, age range, and prices of the two sets they had displayed. #70316 Jestro's Evil Mobile is aimed at ages 8–14 and #70317 Fortrex is aimed at ages 9–14. The latter's actually higher than the age range for any non-licensed, non-exclusive Castle set EVER.

You're right that a similar shape and size to those large wall panels could probably be achieved with smaller parts. Which leads me to wonder what they might be used for in other sets. I can't imagine LEGO would have designed a part like that only planning to use it in one set. Of course, large wall panels have been a big part of Castle sets for many decades, so maybe they just felt like a futuristic Castle theme needed a design that felt more futuristic.

Here's a nice big picture of Fortrex, btw: http://data.techtimes.com/data/images/full/149037/70317-the-fortrex-jpg.jpg Those little lava dudes are adorable!

Series doesn't do anything for me, but I have a hunch it will do well with boys. I will likely buy one of each when/if I find 50-70% off

Just looking at some of the hi-res and close-up images.  There are a lot of new parts.  The little nubs on the tank treads, the new book, 1x1 pyramid, a new wedge, just to name a few plus new mini-fig accessories.  Plus we get a Burger King minifig.

I thought the same thing and googled the number. Without including "LEGO" in the search, it still returned LEGO results. As it turns out, "375" & "6075" are the set numbers for the original yellow castle sets.

Brothers Brick has some more hi-res Nexo Knights images http://www.brothers-brick.com/2015/10/08/lego-nexo-knights-officially-unveiled-news/

The one with the villain in the jester outfit is a bit creepy. Looks like Harley Quinn after year on meth. :)

@LegoTT, not a fan of Wild Wild West? :)

In all seriousness, I wouldn't mind a western theme with a robotic spin, as long as they took it in a SteamPunk direction...

In the high res image, the shields seem to be stickers. They didn't manage to stick it on straight for the green one.

My guess is that they will be recognized by an app. They seem to have been designed to have a well defined shape marker around the edge.

^Normally seeing stickers on shields would annoy me (it was one of my big gripes with Ultra Agents), but with these ones it might be a good thing to be able to keep them unstickered. I did notice that the front of the shield looks to be a separate piece too (obviously it's a different colour but that shaped panel is used elsewhere and some of the pictures showed some of the shields fronts -potentially different designs in the same set- as separate. Which again could increase how useful these are as parts packs.
The majority really do look more useful as Sci-fi parts packs though, not necessarily a bad thing, but unless there's a new licenced theme to cover the castle/historical/fantasy end a bit better ahead then it's a bit of a disappointment for those wanting to build more traditional castle scenes.

The real news out of NYCC is that MegaBloks has reacquired the license for Star Trek and has some very nice-looking models lined up for next year's 50th anniversary of the original series.
