Selling off my collection (Southwest Ohio, USA)

ToddMyersToddMyers Member Posts: 403
For various reasons, I have decided to exit the hobby and sell off my entire collection.

If anyone is in the Southwest Ohio / Northern Kentucky / Southeast Indiana region and would be interested in any of my sets, please let me know.  Currently, all sets are built and I have saved all original instructions and packaging for 99% of my collection. Pricing is available on request.

Until I get a bit more time and can better get a handle on breaking down sets, I am focusing on local sales and am generally avoiding eBay and BrickLink. I'm in no rush to sell, and note that this is not a fire sale, so resellers likely won't find much that will appeal to them.  I am not opposed to selling and shipping beyond the local region, but depending on the size of the set, it may take me a little bit of time to break the set down and get it shipped out.

    Wow, that is a pretty extensive collection to be divesting.  Glad you aren't in a rush, as that would take me ages to disassemble and pack up.   I'm in NC, but would be interested in a number of the sets when you are at the point of being ready to sell and ship them.   I would think you would need to do eBay or Bricklink at some point to sell that many sets though.

    Wow. A list of what you don't have would probably be shorter! Best of luck in your new ventures

    Thanks, and I agree -- if I really want to make a dent in my collection, local sales are simply not going to cut it (so far, I've only had minimal luck on Craigslist, and most of my sales have been to collectors that I personally know here).  Ebay and BrickLink are definitely in my future, but the amount of prep work to be done before I seriously pull the trigger on either one of those is just shy of overwhelming at the moment.  I have started a BrickLink store (a whopping 4 sets to date), and will likely post additional sets as I work through the collection.

    Shoot me a message about the sets you may be interested in and maybe we can work something out.  I'm certainly not opposed to non-local sales, particularly if a buyer is ok with a small delay while I disassemble and pack it up.

    One note about my CMFs: I am selling complete series only, not individual CMFs.  I have complete sets for Series 1 to 13, The LEGO Movie, Simpsons Series 1 and 2, and Team GB.

    Series 10 does not include Mr. Gold, and none of my CMFs come with any original packaging (although they do all come with their accessories and stands).

    It would appear one can have too many Lego trains.

    Yes - best of luck and I hope you get reasonable value for the collection.  It is impressive!
  • ToddMyersToddMyers Member Posts: 403
    Oh my god, I so regret falling into the abyss called LEGO trains. I do love some of them (the Santa Fe train is simply awesome), but LEGO trains are simply a collector's black hole.  I arbitrarily stopped looking for any made before 2000 just so that I could stop adding to the collection.

    I'm afraid to even ask how much that Statue of Liberty is..
  • ToddMyersToddMyers Member Posts: 403
    Not cheap, but it's a spectacular centerpiece for a LEGO collection.  Will be sad when (if) it sells.
  • SumoLegoSumoLego Member Posts: 15,241
    How much, how much?
  • ToddMyersToddMyers Member Posts: 403
    Liberty with the base is $3200.  It includes the original instructions, all extra pieces, and the box (black and white box version), along with PDF instructions for the custom base.
  • RonyarRonyar Member Posts: 373
    It's beautiful, but WAY WAY WAY outside my price range.  :)
  • Gooker1Gooker1 Member Posts: 599
    Wow.  Amazing base for the statue!
  • ToddMyersToddMyers Member Posts: 403
    @Gooker1 - it is!  I cannot say enough about the designer, Cameron Bethel.  He also created a model of the NY Stock Exchange that was phenomenal.  Really talented guy.

    For anyone interested in his models, go to

    I also have the Citizen Brick Breaking Bad set, along with the Albuquerque Action Squad.  I would let both of these go for $500.

    I could only find a pic of my Superlab set -- I can snap a pic of the Action Squad if someone wants to see it.

    I live in Newport and am interested in some of your stuff depending on the price. In particular are 10231: Shuttle Expedition, 10189: Taj Mahal, 10197: Fire Brigade, 10211: Grand Emporium, 10224: Town Hall, minifig collectors series (4,5,6,7, 11)
    Also, I didn't see it, but with the extent of the collection would assume I probably just missed it. The Haunted House
    I would consider the Green Grocer, Market Street, Cafe Corner, etc but I know my answer to their cost is gonna make that a moot point....
    There's no way I will take all or even most of those, but that's what I'm interested in depending on how much that will make my wallet hurt!

    @Averhoeven - message sent!

    How much for the Taj? PM Me. Located near D.C.

    To clear up another question that has cropped up -- generally, for any sets currently available on the LEGO website, I will take 10% off of retail.  Some exceptions apply (e.g., #70751 is still sealed, so I'm asking full retail on that one -- will likely only work for a local pick-up because I cannot match LEGO's free shipping).

    Also, @Averhoeven -- please let me know if you received my PM.

    One interesting piece from my collection, and one of the few sets that I still have sealed.  Set #8143 with a March 2007 "Last Production Run" gold sticker.  These stickers were apparently put on the last run of sets back when Enfield CT was shutting its production facilities down.  I'm asking $150 for it.

    I will certainly consider reasonable offers on anything I have, but please remember that this is not a fire sale, and my pricing is unlikely to meet any reseller needs.  So, while you are free to offer me $800 for all of my CMFs, I'll let you know now in advance that the answer will certainly be no.  :)
  • SumoLegoSumoLego Member Posts: 15,241
    $750 - final offer!
  • ToddMyersToddMyers Member Posts: 403
    $1750 you say?  I think we may have another deal :)

    Interested if you still have Diagon Alley
  • ToddMyersToddMyers Member Posts: 403
    I do still have Diagon Alley.  I will send you a private message.
  • ToddMyersToddMyers Member Posts: 403
    Set #8143 with the Last Production Run sticker is no longer available.
  • ToddMyersToddMyers Member Posts: 403
    Series 3 CMFs are also gone.

    I have been keeping my brickset list updated as I sell sets off, so if you see it listed in my owned-by link, it is most likely still available.

    Another common question: my place is smoke-free and cat-free, but I do have a dog.  The dog is largely separated from the LEGO stuff, but if you have bad dog allergies, you may want to keep that in mind..

    ^ That's a fantastic item.

    I'll PM you later, but I'll take both Simpsons series 1 and 2

    @dougts - PM sent.

    A few other gems from my collection -- I have all of the black box 4000000+ series microscale factory sets (along with The LEGO House and Billund Airport).  I would love to sell all in one shot to a collector, but I will sell individually.  Some of these are incredibly hard to find.

    #4000002    LOM 2011 Moulding
    #4000005    Kornmarken Factory 2012
    #4000006    Production Kladno Campus
    #4000009    HMV Production
    #4000010    LEGO House
    #4000011    Nyiregyhaza Factory
    #4000015    LOM Building B
    #4000016    Billund Airport
    #4000018    Production Kladno Campus 2015
    Other 4000000+ sets that I have are:

    #4000004    Systematic Creativity Toolbox
    #4000007    Ole Kirk's House
    #4000013    A LEGO Christmas Tale
    #4002014    LEGO HUB Birds

    (not sure why the # numbers are not linking out....)

    Another unusual item: A LEGO Retailer's sign.  The sign is glued on one of the rare 48x48 white base plates.  It is bowed a bit from the glue, and I've been told by several people that a low temperature oven may flatten it out, but I haven't been inclined to try it out.  Send me a PM if you are interested.

    Two more items that are not listed in my Brickset list:  The Tiger Mosaic and Cat Mosaic from 2003.  The instructions on these are a bit interesting -- simply a photocopied black and white page that lists a grid with the corresponding  1x1 color placement.

    The Tiger Mosaic that I have actually came with a set of alternate instructions that should have never been sent with the set - I came up short by 60 or so black 1x1s.  I was able to obtain a copy of the original instructions, so I will include both with the Tiger Mosaic (along with the extra 60 black 1x1s in case you want to make the alternate version).

    Both include the original box (although the box for the Cat Mosaic has seen better days).  Send me a PM if you are interested in either.

  • ToddMyersToddMyers Member Posts: 403
    ^ Just noticed that the white on the Tiger mosaic looks yellowed, but it is not -- just different lighting when the pictures were taken.

    For the tiger, is this this alternate build or the original version? In the picture.
  • ToddMyersToddMyers Member Posts: 403
    The picture is the original build.  I will post a pic of the alternate build tomorrow.

    Ah, found it.  This is the alternate build (notice the row of missing 1x1s -- I eventually purchased enough to fill in the blank area).  I prefer the original to the alternate.

    Two other relatively rare sets:

    #19710 Brickstructures Sears Tower
    #19720 Brickstructures John Hancock Center

    These were limited run sets for what I assume was a test run of what ended up being the Architecture line.

    Both boxes are open, but the contents are still sealed.

    Asking $150 for the Sears Tower and $120 for the John Hancock Center, or both for $250.

    Another special one for sale -- the holy grail for LEGO Star Wars collectors: my First Edition 10179 UCS Millennium Falcon.

    Comes with:

    * Original Instructions
    * Box in excellent shape with "Official Limited First Edition" Logo
    * Numbered Certificate of Authenticity
    * Extra 30th Anniversary Sticker
    * All original pieces
    * Extra pieces that came with the set

    Set was opened by me and built once.

    Let me know if you are interested.  Pictures will only be provided to a serious buyer, but fair warning that any pictures sent will be heavily watermarked or otherwise altered by me to try to prevent unauthorized use in scam sales.

    Note that the set is currently built, so if a sale happens, it will take me a few days to disassemble and inventory.

    I also have a Gold Chrome C-3PO and a Chrome Vader.

    I am interested in the 10179 Falcon if it is still available. How much are you selling it for?

    G678 - 2005 Knights' Kingdom Chess Set
    G577 - 2006 Vikings Chess Set
    852001 - 2007 Castle Chess Set
    852293 - 2008 Castle Giant Chess Set
    852751 - 2009 Pirates Chess Set
    853373 - 2012 LEGO Kingdoms Chess Set
    40158 - 2015 Pirates Chess Set
    Plus the 2013 Employee Wooden Game Set

    I also have the three :LEGO Tic-Tac-Toe sets:

    852132 - 2007 Castle Tic-Tac-Toe
    852750 - 2009 Pirates Tic-Tac-Toe

    Finally, I have the LEGO set that plays just like the American game called Trouble:

    G572 - 2006 LEGO Ludo

    PM me if you are interested in pricing!
