Things you never knew about Lego

Hi thought this may make for an interesting topic. I only recently learned when I got a used bundle of 80's vintage Lego that 1x1 round plates used to come on a sprue!

Has anyone else got any interesting facts or nuggets of info about Lego that may not be widely be known?

Ps When did they stop coming on a sprue out of interest?

Curious. I mentioned these just the other day:

They're part 4073, which is why some sites use that number for the single plates (but not Brickset, because they're not).

What sort of question is that? The boards on all the fan sites are full of such things - unless they don't qualify because being buried in a forum makes them "widely known". If you're interested in historic stuff, then you could do worse than wading through @Istokg 's posts.

Do you have something more specific in mind?

    Argos.

I didn't mean it "heavily", but's a huge question. We could ALL be sitting here for the next week (or month?) typing different facts about LEGO that they we think some people / most people / nobody else knows - and they might or might not. As I said, most of the fan sites are already full of such things. Seeing as the original example is about an unfamiliar part, you could even sit down and look though the online databases of parts because there are so many things that a lot of people have never seen.

Yes, I've posted many anecdotes (that was up until now, totally 'secret') over the last few years. I go by the moniker "1974" here and on EB/BL. I could tell a LOT more but I/my sources might get into trouble, so .. hmm .. But as my info is mostly quite old I have so far have not felt the mighty TLG hammer. Might be time to drop some more stuff, hehe

You did read my Tintin blurb on BL, right? No? Then too bad as it has been purged :/

    Cheers,

    Ole

@TigerMoth fair enough. I read Rails' comment as a request for lesser known trivia. Maybe not the most interesting idea for a thread for some but harmless. I thought your reply was a little mean-spirited. I would say I'm a massive fan of Lego but I'm not interested in searching for trivia the way you suggest. However, if some things were posted here that I didn't know, well, I would enjoy that and would be grateful e.g. until I read his post I didn't know that part came in pairs.

Anyway, thanks for your reply. TBH I was expecting something more dickish! I'm happy you proved me wrong. I didn't like your original comment, I thought it was bordering on insulting and didn't really add to the thread. I know realise that the same could be said of mine. So I apologise to both you and Rails.

And who knows? If more people reply to Rails' question, we might all learn something new.

Thanks for the replies so far guys lol. I maybe should have been more specific in my original post, I was looking for lesser known trivia as Bobjack put it. The kind of stuff that even as a huge Lego fan you were surprised to learn. The opposite of things like "did you know Lego are the worlds biggest tyre producer" etc.

But as TigerMoth says it may be easier for everyone to buy Gary's @Istokg book or just read his past posts as I pretty much always learn something new about Lego whenever he posts :)

Do you know how much Lego Neil from the Inbetweeners can stick up his bum? I think it's a rectangular one, a long one and maybe some singles.
