It's an overall "meh" for me. I really enjoyed the inclusion of minifigs the past 4 years. :/
This does look like a set that was made from like two separate poly bags or something.
I would be curious to see if there will be a second set to go w/ this.
I reiterate, I did not recognize you as the person who made so many other comments along those lines, but comments about sets seeming "phoned in" or otherwise implying that the designers weren't even trying are a pet peeve of mine. It is those kinds of comments that invoke my ire, not the identity of the person making them.
It's true that a lot of other people were also complaining about this set; it's true. But the reason I didn't get so angry with their comments is that they didn't phrase them in a way that implied LEGO didn't care or wasn't trying. That's also why I didn't get angry at your first post in this thread expressing your disappointment.
This isn't the first time somebody has mistakenly assumed I had a grudge against them because I happened to disagree with so many of their posts, so perhaps it's a sign I should be more mindful about WHO I'm responding to instead of just WHAT they're saying in that particular thread.
Thank you for calling it to my attention so that I sort of have a better idea of who you are and what perspective you're coming from instead of just thinking of you as a name I'm used to seeing around the Brickset forums.
I've always held out hope that Lego would do a Rankin-Bass partnership so I can get my Heat Miser and Snow Miser minifigs.
I don't like sets like this as promotional items because I feel like it's something I could make myself whereas, for me, something with a minifigure is more enticing. I couldn't have made an official LEGO Incredible Hulk polybag, so I spent the money on an order from LEGO so I could get one.
They could have used exclusive tile pieces or something along those lines to make the train more of a unique collectible.
Looking at the other half of that image, even if I were as big of a SW fan today as I was when I was a kid, I don't think LEGO could ever entice me with a free poster.
As an aside: I was going to say that LEGO has never done anything that I've found incredibly upsetting but then I remembered how incredibly angry I got when they ruined CMF collecting for me with Mr. Gold.
As far as the "freebie," it is a nice looking set. But it isn't free. It's a gift with purchase, but you certainly have to spend to get it for free. Too bad they also didn't offer it for sale by itself. I don't think there is $100 worth to get this, but I could see buying it by itself. I would normally (like many others here) order the Winter Village set to help get past that threshold, but that is a no go this year.
As far as I can tell, one of the Winter promo sets from last year was grossly overproduced, at least according to the many LUGs that have received boxes upon boxes of them to do whatever with. So maybe it is another sign that WV wasn't selling as well as they expected and thusly are changing their output?? I don't know.
I'm guessing this thing is going to be about 175 pieces, in a non-tiny box, and that it'll go for $20 without breaking a sweat. So, if you want to look at it that way, still with 1x (5%) VIP rewards, you're getting (roughly) 25% off a $100 [email protected] set (even an exclusive like the Ferrari) shipped free. That's not bad.
Finally I got the high-res images from LEGO Seasonal Christmas Train (40138), the first of two Exclusives this year. Available in US from 99 US-Dollar purchase, in Europe from 55 Euro. There are 233 pieces in total.

I don't think I'll be buying £50 worth (if that is what it will be in the UK) just for the "free" set (although I might change my mind) as I'll probably just build it from existing parts. And add a normal gingerbread man minifig.
So if double points are only available from oct 1-4, and this nice little set is only available to obtain via promotion from oct 13th and onwards, what to do?
Double down in oct *ouch* vs pay market price (ie eBay) vs bricklinking it (provided no rare pieces)?
Advice appreciated as I don't collect winter village, but this is a nice little set & I must have it :)
Otherwise it would probably just end up scattered throughout the rest of my collection.
What exactly about this thread was comedy gold? I read through the whole thing again and It doesn't seem like anyone was trying to say something funny throughout the whole thing.
Unless you find people arguing to be funny?
But why don't they call it 'roundtine'?
@aanchir, thanx. If true, that the double points are extended, then that would be legit.
So the "double dip" of double vip & the first Christmas promo set will be available Oct 13th -14th? I hope the official language on [email protected] tomorrow reflects the extended vip dates.
will i get this? YES!
will it stay MISB because of that awesome "limited edition" sticker? YES!!!
Now looking at my order history it has three items listed: the ferris wheel, and two trains - one for $0.00 and one for $9.99.
Has anyone experienced anything similar in the past? I know there is the note stating they're experiencing technical difficulties and promotions will be applied after they process the transaction. However it seems like the promotion has been applied, but at a cost?
Thoughts?
