    Congrats to the winners.

Any Europeans got the shipping notice yet? Still waiting here... :-/

@welo999 I have not received any shipping information yet.

I have to say, respect to those open it, albeit it's a bit nuts.

If I had bothered to enter and been lucky enough to win, I'd leave mine sealed and BL the parts - as I have done.  Mine will be exactly the same as those won officially.  No way could I break the seals on a $2,000 set only to be left with a $60 set and an open box.

@madforLEGO, I don't think that TLG cares one way or the other if people keep the set. The purpose of the giveaway wasn't to get the Bat-Pod into the hands of the most avid LEGO fans that are also Batman fans that also happen to be VIP members. If they wanted that they would have done a build contest or essay contest or something.

They wanted a sales bump during the summer when most people are outside most of the time, and I am sure they got what they wanted. Plus I would wager that a bunch of people signed up for the VIP program just to enter the contest, so another win for them in the form of a new crop of folks to advertise to directly. I bet they get another sales bump with people that won that will buy Tumblers so they have both.

I've only seen a handful of them on ebay (two of them fake and reported by me, just because I don't like people that take advantage of others) so I guess we will see how many people keep them (if ebay is an indication of selling/keeping).

I also would have flipped it for quick cash, too bad I didn't win. Oh, well.

Yeah.. I can understand that. And I wouldn't begrudge anyone for what they'd do with it theirs if they won. It's theirs after all.

For me.. the most exciting part will be opening and building such an exclusive set. Knowing that only a handful of other people (are crazy enough.. like me) in the world to share that experience. For me personally, keeping it sealed and BL'ing a display version just wouldn't be the same.

And I apologize if I sound like an elitist ass.. I'm really not one,  just super excited.

And yes.. Most of my friends think I'm absolutely nuts too. I half expecting men in white coats to come and take me away to the psyc ward. :p

I'll be keeping mine. And will open and build it probably within 5 minutes of entering the house with it.
Honestly if I was in a different situation I would do the same. I've never once left a set unopened for more than an hour after I got it so this was difficult to do.

Despite being more of a LEGO Star Wars fan, I really still want the Tumbler. That thing looks amazingly detailed.

Lego should have sold them as well as giving them away, same goes for sdcc they should be preview figures.

Anyone keeping it, if you are married (Heck even if you are not), I pray you are financially very well off or that your significant other doesn't find out how much these go for.

I can't imagine many / any spouse being super supportive of leaving $2,000 or more on the table. I don't know many families that couldn't put that to better use.

    To each their own though.

^ Oh I'd be keeping it, but couldn't open it.  I'd starve for 3 months before I sold it.

97% of my parts arrived today.  Just waiting on one small order and will be straight on it.

I totally plan to keep mine. I haven't decided if I am going to build it or not yet, but I am definitely going to keep it. Besides, if I didn't want it why would I have tried to hard to win it. ;)

I wouldn't flip it at all.  I like to collect the rare stuff, so this would proudly sit next to a BL'ed version. lol :)

And if it went from $2500 to $500 I still wouldn't kick myself if I didn't sell one.  But if I were to win one, be on the fence of selling it, then all of a sudden the price drops, I'd be bummed. lol

Either way, respect to those that sell, keep sealed or rip apart and build.

We should keep track of the # that ends up on eBay...looks like 14 actives and 5 Sold.  I think if Lego were to have a 90% retention rate, they'd be absolutely thrilled.  Now if half of the sets get sold, not so much and that will probably make them re-evaluate their thoughts on doing something like this again.

  • Vindic8edVindic8ed Member Posts: 206
I'm planning on keeping it but holding off on opening it; waiting on pieces from BL for the time being to see how prices fair in the long run.  If it keeps going up I'll probably sell it and just keep the BL.  If it goes down I'll build it and see what I can get for the BL version.

For anyone that has built it, how sturdy is it? The tumbler falls apart whenever I touch it. Super detailed, but super fragile. I hope the batpod is not as delicate. But then again, they are display sets, not play sets...

Just spoke to Lego CS about my Episode I poster and took the opportunity to ask about the Bat-Pod parts being out of stock.

He said the Tires will be back in stock sooner or later, so just keep watch for it. But that the Hero Factory Shields look like they aren't going to be replenished after these reserves got sold out because they are not being used in any current manufacturing or sets. So any possibility would hinge on their re-use in a new set and then have to be the correct metallic silver too. Which in my estimation is 'nil' chance due to the ABS God's sense of humor now that we need them for the Bat-pod.

Thus I encourage all fence sitters to run, not walk, in procuring all those HF Shield pieces. These will be the wallet destroyers in a few months time. Considering I ponied up $35 for all 6 pieces yesterday, I imagine them to break the >$10 per piece barrier in short time (3-4 months).

I really think someone should submit an idea to the IDEAS website that includes 50 of these piece per set. For example, something like the space monster thingy in the Avengers 1 movie (see below). The HF parts could be the flat scales on the back of the space monster (or alternatively a perfect match for the Bat-Pod). It would also go well with the SHIELD Helicarrier. I have a hunch such a set would make it to 10K in no time at all. ;-)

    Just thinking out loud here...

Isn't the box the only thing that really adds value to this set? Its all people are paying for regardless if it is opened or not.

Another winner here ... and I just have to say that in the past few days I have changed my mind at least 10 times as far as what to do with the set.

I was super excited when I got the email.  My eight year old son and I did some serious jumping up and down.  I planned on keeping and opening it, thinking it couldn't possibly go for more than $300 on ebay.  I even bought a Tumbler to build along with it.  I had always thought it was an awesome set but likely would not have gotten it due to modulars and the winter village series being our main interests as far as larger builds.  I was even thinking a good bit about what kind of shelf to get to display them on.

Now almost everyone I know is telling me I'd be an idiot not to sell it, all except for my buddy who is a huge Batman (but not LEGO) fan. He's also the deepest in debt person that I know so maybe not the best to listen to...

Long story short -mine is arriving tomorrow and I still don't know what I'm going to do.

I went and picked mine up at my local Fedex store today(I live in a rather unsavory part of town, so I didn't trust it).  I was astonished that they put the Batpod-English on the side(way to advertise for the thieves Lego!!!).  I was also astonished that they didn't put any extra packing materials at all in the box(and of course, there is a small scuff on a corner damn it).  Ah well, I'll just sell it for a little less, I'm sure it will go anyways.

I have noticed that several did sell at the 2K+ price, but now they have tapered a bit.  I believe the price will drop once they do not sell this go around.

Prices will drop once the nuts are cracked.  So, was it 1000 or 750 sets produced?

From the images I've seen the postcard in the box says "You are 1 of 1,000 winners."

750 US, 250 EU, if I'm not mistaken.

Re: some of the earlier discussion...told my wife I had won it and she was excited for me.  Have NOT mentioned what some have sold for yet.

I was planning on opening it initially, but the auctions certainly make one reconsider such things.  I have no doubt the initial prices will drop some as people that weren't going to sell but can't pass up the opportunity bump up the supply relative to demand.  I'm fortunate enough to not need the cash at present so I think I'm just going to sit on it for a while and see where it is at in a year or several.  If prices aren't ridiculous, I'll open it up when my kids are older.  If prices creep back up to the stratosphere, then who knows.  In the meantime, it'll sit proudly next my other rarities. (Assuming it arrives safely tomorrow....eek!)

Well done to the winners, I didn't enter because I don't collect SH.

To those that have opened it, will you be keeping the box? I wonder if some of our more "sensitive" members could cope with pictures of it being placed in the recycle bin ;-) Or even worse, a cutting up video!

I'm firmly in the 'keep and build' camp.  Seeing people sticking the set on ebay is a huge smack in the face for those that would love the chance to own it, but realistically never will.  I wish Lego would just stop with the limited edition stuff.

Sticking it on eBay is the ONLY chance those will have to own it as they didn't win it. Seems more helpful than keeping it actually. My $0.02.

These were the $.35 pieces 4632002 correct?  I just happened by chance to pick up 6 from the Bricks & Pieces site, since I ordered the black Tumbler wheels and had to re-order the correct wheels once the parts list came out.  I just looked through the parts and just picked out a few pieces that I thought looked a little more rare and hard to get.  I had no idea which ones were the rare ones, but lucked out with these.

If you can get 2k for one why not, keep 1k aside and if the prices go down and you still want one, buy one back.

  • DrmnezDrmnez Member Posts: 855
Are these actually still selling at 2k?
  • Farmer_JohnFarmer_John Member Posts: 2,405
I would expect a dip in the prices as more are put out on eBay. However, I would also expect the price to rebound once the volume on eBay starts to go down. If you're thinking about picking one up, I would do it at the peak of the flood onto eBay (over the next month).

I was planning to purchase one, and I am not afraid to overspend at times.  However, even though I have a huge DC collection, including all the SDCC, at $2K I'll be passing....  Kudos to the winners, and if its worth it to someone then good for them.

If I am any indication though, I think we might see prices drop after the initial surge of folks willing to pay anything.   I'd probably jump back in at the $500 - $1000 range, but even the upper end of that makes me really think twice.  You can buy a lot of LEGO for that kind of money!

That said, I think anyone who needs the money should sell.   Even if it goes up more so what.   2K for nothing is awesome.  I sold my USC Millennium Falcon for around $1800.00 many years ago.  Sure you could get more now, but I bought and sold a lot of LEGO with the profit with that one!  Actually it gave me a 'reason' to purchase LEGO as it seems like such a good 'investment' with a good experience like that.

I cannot help but think of anyone that legitimately won one of these but failed, or refused, to submit their info back to LEGO. Wonder how they would feel now seeing them go for this kind of money?
It is one thing to not win and see these going for this much, but I think entirely worse if you could have had one but did not confirm to receive it.

Astonishing. Took 25 minutes from listing to sale for 6 of the HF parts for a price of € 7 each.
I wish a had a lot more of them.

  • jaitheartistjaitheartist Member Posts: 30
I expect to see the prices on eBay start to drop, there are quite a few listed there now. I actually plan on selling mine once I receive it, anxiously waiting. Tho the fact that the pieces are so hard to come by now, may keep those prices up over the $1k range for awhile.
  • BrickDancerBrickDancer Member Posts: 3,639
@welo999 Wow €42 total for the 6 pieces is a much faster rise than I even estimated! And the way things are moving, I don't dare to put a ceiling on what the price those Hero Factory Shields will end up at in the long term. When you consider the rarity of the part, number needed, lack of substituted color, value of the complete set, the desirability of the Bat-pod itself, plus the fanaticism of Batman-Lego fans... the sky might be the limit this particular piece.
  • Steve_J_OMSteve_J_OM Member Posts: 995
I've not been keeping up very well with the inventory discussion...can someon give me an ID for the Hero Factory pieces? Are you more likely to get them in PAB or BL? Thanks.
  • BrickDancerBrickDancer Member Posts: 3,639
@Steve_J_OM The part is "Hero Factory with Handle for Clip" Design #92222 in Pearl Dark Gray or Part #4623002.
  • welo999welo999 Member Posts: 33
    BrickDancer
    Was a nice experiment.
But i think that will cool off a little after the first hype. There are still HF sets including them out there. The last ones are from 2014, mine were from such sets i found today.
Chances are they could be even on sale at some retailers.

If LEGO doesn't produce more, i can see them settle at a high, but not too high price. € 5 to 10 maybe.
Like the dark blue support 43888 from Cafe Corner

And there have to a lot of used HFs out there.

  • Steve_J_OMSteve_J_OM Member Posts: 995
Thanks @BrickDancer. Sold out on Bricks and Pieces, and no sign of Pearl Dark Gray on BL. Might have missed the boat...

Are there any other pieces besides the shield that aren't available through PaB/BaP?

I know the tires and wheels are currently out of stock on BaP, but someone mentioned they should be coming back in stock eventually.

SithLord196 As far as i've seen in the inventory the rest are mostly common parts. Don't know if all are available at PaB/BaP, but they are at BL.

I was mainly just hoping I could get most of the pieces with one order and be done with it, as opposed to trying to optimize orders using BL.
