Any Europeans got the shipping notice yet? Still waiting here... :-/
I emailed entries into the contest almost daily because I love Lego, and the DC theme is one of my favorites (it brought me out of my 25 year long dark age).
I didn't win a shiny box that would sit on a shelf or in a closet collecting dust.. and I wouldn't want to sell or trade it to someone who only sees dollar signs. I'm going to enjoy having this in my collection. And if I ever part with it.. and that's a big IF.. it'll be as an opened set that was displayed for years by an AFOL.
All that being said... don't doubt it, I'll cringe immensely when I cut the seals on the box.
Assuming LEGO ever ships mine lol.. (still impatiently waiting for my shipping notice).
If I had bothered to enter and been lucky enough to win, I'd leave mine sealed and BL the parts - as I have done. Mine will be exactly the same as those won officially. No way could I break the seals on a $2,000 set only to be left with a $60 set and an open box.
They wanted a sales bump during the summer when most people are outside most of the time, and I am sure they got what they wanted. Plus I would wager that a bunch of people signed up for the VIP program just to enter the contest, so another win for them in the form of a new crop of folks to advertise to directly. I bet they get another sales bump with people that won that will buy Tumblers so they have both.
I've only seen a handful of them on ebay (two of them fake and reported by me, just because I don't like people that take advantage of others) so I guess we will see how many people keep them (if ebay is an indication of selling/keeping).
I also would have flipped it for quick cash, too bad I didn't win. Oh, well.
For me.. the most exciting part will be opening and building such an exclusive set. Knowing that only a handful of other people (are crazy enough.. like me) in the world to share that experience. For me personally, keeping it sealed and BL'ing a display version just wouldn't be the same.
And I apologize if I sound like an elitist ass.. I'm really not one, just super excited.
And yes.. Most of my friends think I'm absolutely nuts too. I half expecting men in white coats to come and take me away to the psyc ward. :p
Despite being more of a LEGO Star Wars fan, I really still want the Tumbler. That thing looks amazingly detailed.
Lego should have sold them as well as giving them away, same goes for sdcc they should be preview figures.
I can't imagine many / any spouse being super supportive of leaving $2,000 or more on the table. I don't know many families that couldn't put that to better use.
To each their own though.
97% of my parts arrived today. Just waiting on one small order and will be straight on it.
And if it went from $2500 to $500 I still wouldn't kick myself if I didn't sell one. But if I were to win one, be on the fence of selling it, then all of a sudden the price drops, I'd be bummed. lol
Either way, respect to those that sell, keep sealed or rip apart and build.
We should keep track of the # that ends up on eBay...looks like 14 actives and 5 Sold. I think if Lego were to have a 90% retention rate, they'd be absolutely thrilled. Now if half of the sets get sold, not so much and that will probably make them re-evaluate their thoughts on doing something like this again.
He said the Tires will be back in stock sooner or later, so just keep watch for it. But that the Hero Factory Shields look like they aren't going to be replenished after these reserves got sold out because they are not being used in any current manufacturing or sets. So any possibility would hinge on their re-use in a new set and then have to be the correct metallic silver too. Which in my estimation is 'nil' chance due to the ABS God's sense of humor now that we need them for the Bat-pod.
Thus I encourage all fence sitters to run, not walk, in procuring all those HF Shield pieces. These will be the wallet destroyers in a few months time. Considering I ponied up $35 for all 6 pieces yesterday, I imagine them to break the >$10 per piece barrier in short time (3-4 months).
Just thinking out loud here...
I was super excited when I got the email. My eight year old son and I did some serious jumping up and down. I planned on keeping and opening it, thinking it couldn't possibly go for more than $300 on ebay. I even bought a Tumbler to build along with it. I had always thought it was an awesome set but likely would not have gotten it due to modulars and the winter village series being our main interests as far as larger builds. I was even thinking a good bit about what kind of shelf to get to display them on.
Now almost everyone I know is telling me I'd be an idiot not to sell it, all except for my buddy who is a huge Batman (but not LEGO) fan. He's also the deepest in debt person that I know so maybe not the best to listen to...
Long story short -mine is arriving tomorrow and I still don't know what I'm going to do.
I have noticed that several did sell at the 2K+ price, but now they have tapered a bit. I believe the price will drop once they do not sell this go around.
I was planning on opening it initially, but the auctions certainly make one reconsider such things. I have no doubt the initial prices will drop some as people that weren't going to sell but can't pass up the opportunity bump up the supply relative to demand. I'm fortunate enough to not need the cash at present so I think I'm just going to sit on it for a while and see where it is at in a year or several. If prices aren't ridiculous, I'll open it up when my kids are older. If prices creep back up to the stratosphere, then who knows. In the meantime, it'll sit proudly next my other rarities. (Assuming it arrives safely tomorrow....eek!)
To those that have opened it, will you be keeping the box? I wonder if some of our more "sensitive" members could cope with pictures of it being placed in the recycle bin ;-) Or even worse, a cutting up video!
If I am any indication though, I think we might see prices drop after the initial surge of folks willing to pay anything. I'd probably jump back in at the $500 - $1000 range, but even the upper end of that makes me really think twice. You can buy a lot of LEGO for that kind of money!
That said, I think anyone who needs the money should sell. Even if it goes up more so what. 2K for nothing is awesome. I sold my USC Millennium Falcon for around $1800.00 many years ago. Sure you could get more now, but I bought and sold a lot of LEGO with the profit with that one! Actually it gave me a 'reason' to purchase LEGO as it seems like such a good 'investment' with a good experience like that.
They are sold out on BL for 2 days now.
It is one thing to not win and see these going for this much, but I think entirely worse if you could have had one but did not confirm to receive it.
I wish a had a lot more of them.
Was a nice experiment.
But i think that will cool off a little after the first hype. There are still HF sets including them out there. The last ones are from 2014, mine were from such sets i found today.
Chances are they could be even on sale at some retailers.
If LEGO doesn't produce more, i can see them settle at a high, but not too high price. € 5 to 10 maybe.
Like the dark blue support 43888 from Cafe Corner
And there have to a lot of used HFs out there.
I know the tires and wheels are currently out of stock on BaP, but someone mentioned they should be coming back in stock eventually.
