I get the anticipation and exclusivity, but it seems like every set is around $100.00.
Or maybe I'm old and can't justify paying more than $50.00 for a Dutch X-Wing....
Nothing for me, either.
I can't seem to muster any enthusiasm for the sets, partly I guess because I'm not very familiar with the source material yet, but it's mainly because to the totally ridiculous RRP's. I'm might be a bit more interested at 30% off, but otherwise the entire wave is an easy pass for me. The one benefit is that I'll be able to get a couple of new UCS sets for my collection in the next few months, without feeling too guilty about buying too much!
None of these new characters seem interesting enough to make me want to collect SW again and I really don't want gray haired versions of the original cast.
I had planned to wait for some discounts before buying but a new toy superstore opened up around the corner on Saturday and they had a big opening event to which I took my kids (any excuse!) I kind of got swept up in the mood and before I knew it I was at the checkout. I'm pretty happy though, as even at full retail price it wasn't much more expensive than picking up the previous version second hand, the only thing I kind of regret is missing out on VIP points and free polybags.
I will most likely get the tie (even though I hate the red "stripe") and the x-wing (even though I hate the orange everything) once the price dips. There will be better deals as we roll into holiday season.
I do think the falcon is a slight improvement over the previous in terms of details. The previous wins on minifigures though IMO.
Have not build them yet, due to another project and waiting on my IKEA shelves.
I was was surprised to see how fast these sets are selling. My local Meijer had all them yesterday evening and they were completely wiped out tonight.
Orange Juice, standing by...
My hope is that some of the First Order characters show up in cheaper sets in the next wave. I love the Cpt. Phasma fig, but just can't justify buying that set at a $90 price point.
Orange you glad I didn't say 'Red Five standing by'...
I have succesful turned him to the Dark Side at nine years old. I am unsure if I should be disturbed or proud.
Next thing your going to tell me that Disney owns Marvel and produces highly succesful interconnected films and television shows that generate billions of dollars and sacrifice the artistic integrity of the source material.
Or that there is a Harry Potter-themed amusement park that is also highly lucrative which is driving new books to satiate the general public's thirst for new and familiar content.
Hey, Christopher Tolkien, get on board with a Beren and Luthein film, or an epic Fall of Gondolin film. Time for some wingless balrogs and dragons. That'll confuse the hell out of everyone!
And will make for some fabulous Lego sets.
There's a part of me that longs for the non-Disney SW and one that is happy for the Disney SW (or else SWTFA wouldn't have been produced).
In the end, it's a business. But re-releasing the same sets with minor changes is not cool with this collector.
It's bad enough (non-Lego) SW figures are recycled between different packaging just to sell the cargo loads sitting in warehouses in Guangzhou!
There is no doubt that Lucas did a great job creating a universe, but a few more eyes on the scripts for Episodes 1-3 may have resulted in two beloved trilogies, instead of one.
It's also very difficult to catch that lightning in a bottle. Spielberg is great, but those Jurassic Park sequels are trash, and Indy 4 was just a calamity.
I get the sense that DC's effort at copying the MCU is going to be a trainwreck and will probably be recieved as the prequel trilogy has been with SW fans.
(I genuinely have a lot of optimism for this newest film. Moreso, because it is a new story!)
I'm with the masses on the prices- they're all about $10 too high. I would hope we see some Amazon sales or something on these....
As as for the MF, I'm torn. I have the last one in a box for my son. I bought it for him the week he was born. Of course, my next son will be born next week, less than two weeks after the new MF came out. Wasn't going to get it, but I think I kinda, sorta have to.
