New Star Wars...who bought what sets?

ryjayryjay Member Posts: 1,001
Ok, now that the new Star Wars TFA sets are out, who purchased what sets?

Although I enjoyed seeing the new sets, what I noticed most was the prices...I think just about everything was overpriced.
The X-wing, built in the display case look a whole lot better the box could do it any justice, & I liked the color added to the MF, but the price points of both of these set kept me from buying.

I guess until I see the movie, I have a bit of a disconnect with the new items.  So out of the gate, not buying into it.   But still curious as to what other people bought?

I like a lot of the Episode VII sets, but will wait for Bricktober to buy them. They aren't selling out immediately like some other SW toys, so there's no rush. Might as well hold off for the additional promo items (polybags, Bricktober mini-modulars)

And the inevitable sales that'll put them at more market appropriate prices.

I bought Rey's Speeder on Force Friday, many people were picking up the Millennium Falcon, I'm happy enough with the prices.

Looked at the Pumpkin-Wing and passed.  The retail price on these sets is a but much.

I get the anticipation and exclusivity, but it seems like every set is around $100.00.

Or maybe I'm old and can't justify paying more than $50.00 for a Dutch X-Wing....

Its kind of hard for me to buy any SW sets anymore, knowing that LEGO will just make 8 versions of the same set at later dates. Plus there is the space concern for me, that is not much of it that is not already taken up by City themes. I will buy the occasional set that is somewhat unique and not likely to be done again anytime soon (JP, though likely to be redone I wanted it for what is I think another unique set) Rancor pit, and Cantina are a couple.

Absolutely nothing but, I did notice the Star Wars advent calendar for $39.88. Way too much for me.

    Nothing for me, either.

I can't seem to muster any enthusiasm for the sets, partly I guess because I'm not very familiar with the source material yet, but it's mainly because to the totally ridiculous RRP's.  I'm might be a bit more interested at 30% off, but otherwise the entire wave is an easy pass for me.  The one benefit is that I'll be able to get a couple of new UCS sets for my collection in the next few months, without feeling too guilty about buying too much!

None. I picked up a couple of B-wings on clearance. I'd rather pick up a few OT that I have been putting off.

And some Super Heroes, Jurassic Park, City, Simpsons, Minecraft, ...

I already own the previous Falcon ( #7965 ). I have an OT X-Wing ( #9493 ), which is always gonna be better than this new one. The three grey blobs are too, well, grey. I kinda like the TIE but it's too expensive, and i'd probably be better off with a #9492 so I can't see me ever getting any of those sets. But, Rey's speeder looks cool and i'll end up getting one eventually, hopefully with a little discount. So, so far I have bought none. I'm really looking forward to the film though, come on JJ.

I stood and looked at them for a bit in Toys R Us, but couldn't force myself to want them. The new style X-Wing in white could tempt me more.
  • chuxtoyboxchuxtoybox Member Posts: 711
I think it's safe to say that even when I finally see these in the store in person I won't be tempted to buy any. MF's the coolest but I would buy an old school one before this. I actually like the new Tie Fighter.

None of these new characters seem interesting enough to make me want to collect SW again and I really don't want gray haired versions of the original cast.

When it is all said and done the movie could sway me towards the new X-wing, but that is still TBD.

I picked up a Millennium Falcon. Although I'm not sure I can muster any enthusiasm for the new Minifigures, The Falcon is the Falcon and it's always going to be awesome. I've always wanted one and I thought now was the right time to buy. Maybe once I've seen the film I'll identify more with the figures.

I had planned to wait for some discounts before buying but a new toy superstore opened up around the corner on Saturday and they had a big opening event to which I took my kids (any excuse!) I kind of got swept up in the mood and before I knew it I was at the checkout. I'm pretty happy though, as even at full retail price it wasn't much more expensive than picking up the previous version second hand, the only thing I kind of regret is missing out on VIP points and free polybags.

Bought Rey's speeder. Quite enjoyed the build but would have liked a better second minifig or an additional droid. I'm being picky though.

I ordered the X-Wing from Amazon, as it's the one set that really grabbed my interest when pictures of this wave leaked.

I tried to get amped up for these sets bc I am really excited for the movie. I visited the displays at Meijer, Walmart, and Target. I mostly just wanted an excuse to by something, but the price is holding me back.

I will most likely get the tie (even though I hate the red "stripe") and the x-wing (even though I hate the orange everything) once the price dips. There will be better deals as we roll into holiday season.

I do think the falcon is a slight improvement over the previous in terms of details. The previous wins on minifigures though IMO.

I got Rey's Speeder. Truthfully I would love to have gotten more and may have even splurged for a $30 set or so....but the minifigure selection is odd. Rey is the only major Hero character available in a lower priced set. To get  Finn or BB-8 you need to buy an $80+ dollar set. That being said the Falcon does look nice (I don't have an older version as I have stayed away from Star Wars until now). The falcon looks like a great set and most of the major Hero characters are in it.

I am thinking I might start collecting x-wings with the new helmets and canopy it might be a good time to start. I don't have any of the old ones but it would look cool having this one next to the white and blue one and a red 5 too.

Bought them all aside from the Aluminum Falcon, and X Wing. Waiting on Double VIP points for those....probably pickup another TIE fighter at that time too.

Have not build them yet, due to another project and waiting on my IKEA shelves.

I visited several stores this weekend and the Falcon was sold out everywhere I went. I wanted to check out the box. I didn't buy anything, waiting for better prices. I also hope we see some cheaper sets and battle packs in January released sets

Saw the new x-wing in a target display tonight. It actually looks pretty damn good once you see it in person, despite the Halloween color scheme. I already thought I would buy it, now I'm sure of it.

I was was surprised to see how fast these sets are selling. My local Meijer had all them yesterday evening and they were completely wiped out tonight.

I've purchased Reys Landspeeder so far. For a $20 set i had fun building it and it came out pretty cool. Not sure which other sets i want to get other than Poes X-wing which i am 100% getting .

We will buy many of them. My husband is a huge star wars fan, and I will get him 2 sets of the MF to avoid the fiasco of years past that ended up in us missing out on sets when we could have afforded them.

I bought the Falcon and Rey's Speeder. Still would like to get the Tie Fighter but that can wait. $180 for the Falcon and $25 for the Speeder. Damn Canadian prices. :/

I actually like most of the sets. The X-Wing display at Target sold me on the new design...and I'm sure I will eventually buy one. I've also been holding off on getting a MF, and this one looks decent. Both will be pick-ups when the prices drop a little.

My hope is that some of the First Order characters show up in cheaper sets in the next wave. I love the Cpt. Phasma fig, but just can't justify buying that set at a $90 price point.

I grabbed the Falcon; I have the other 8 so why not get the 9th, right. :oP  Also bought the 6 battle figures.  They remind me of my Stikfas guys with their pose-ability and will look great on display.

Wait, wait?  Disney owns Star Wars?  What a bunch of sellouts!

Next thing your going to tell me that Disney owns Marvel and  produces highly succesful interconnected films and television shows that generate billions of dollars and sacrifice the artistic integrity of the source material.

Or that there is a Harry Potter-themed amusement park that is also highly lucrative which is driving new books to satiate the general public's thirst for new and familiar content.

Hey, Christopher Tolkien, get on board with a Beren and Luthein film, or an epic Fall of Gondolin film.  Time for some wingless balrogs and dragons.  That'll confuse the hell out of everyone!

And will make for some fabulous Lego sets.

    I get the sarcasm, Sumo.

There's a part of me that longs for the non-Disney SW and one that is happy for the Disney SW (or else SWTFA wouldn't have been produced).

In the end, it's a business. But re-releasing the same sets with minor changes is not cool with this collector.

It's bad enough (non-Lego) SW figures are recycled between different packaging just to sell the cargo loads sitting in warehouses in Guangzhou!

I don't see any difference, except that there seems to be an effort to keep one coherent cannon.

There is no doubt that Lucas did a great job creating a universe, but a few more eyes on the scripts for Episodes 1-3 may have resulted in two beloved trilogies, instead of one.

It's also very difficult to catch that lightning in a bottle.  Spielberg is great, but those Jurassic Park sequels are trash, and Indy 4 was just a calamity.

I get the sense that DC's effort at copying the MCU is going to be a trainwreck and will probably be recieved as the prequel trilogy has been with SW fans.

(I genuinely have a lot of optimism for this newest film.  Moreso, because it is a new story!)

I've never had a Millennium Falcon and have always wanted one so bought #75105 on Friday morning. None of the other sets immediately appeal to me. Maybe that will change when the film is out. If so I hope they will be discounted at that point.

Bought the Millennium Falcon. I don't have much of an affinity for any of these characters yet, but once I do I may change my tune about some of these sets.

I'm with the masses on the prices- they're all about $10 too high. I would hope we see some Amazon sales or something on these....

I'm thinking that same thing.  I think the last regular X-wings #9493 was around $59.00.  I know this one has a few more pieces, but that doesnt translate into  a $20 greater value for me

I'll get the X and TIE. It's inevitable. I want all versions of those ships and will continue to get them. Sigh.

As as for the MF, I'm torn. I have the last one in a box for my son. I bought it for him the week he was born. Of course, my next son will be born next week, less than two weeks after the new MF came out. Wasn't going to get it, but I think I kinda, sorta have to.
