Sorry for the bad editing... anyway it seems like there will be certain amount of commemorative bricks will be given to the first customers... wonder how it looks like... (why Boston doesn't have TRU!!)

I;ve tried to read this announcement on other sites and it seems like so much of this is the Times square store....I hope the bricks are at all stores and with little or no purchase (its hard to walk into a store with no idea what the price/items are). There also is a make and take listed but again is that exclusive to the Time's Square store.

Really? I wonder how many bricks are they going to give away... If this is only for the TS store, I guess I have to check eBay again... hopefully the price won't be too crazy

    Based on this statement:
As an added bonus, little Jedi Knights and their families attending midnight opening events will have the chance to receive special giveaways, including a limited edition LEGO® Star Wars Commemorative Brick and an exclusive Star Wars poster, while supplies last.

It seems the commemorative brick is only for kids?

Yeah, it seems like the case... So sad for AFOLs... This was also happening for SDCC last year the fake-exclusive Azog... only given to the kids... So saaaaaad :(

They hate AFOLS (in the UK), if I turned up they'd call security and kick me out lol

This is really bad, I am sorry for that... I know that LEGO maybe just a kind of toy, but it is not only for kids. We as customer should not be treated like that, it is not right... I personally haven't come across that kind of situation so far, hopefully LEGO can understand AFOLS some day, and treat us fairly.

If I have the chance I will do that same :) For now, I think I will keep an eyes on eBay that day, and pray huge amount of promo bricks will be given out!

So the free stuff is just for kids, at midnight, on a school night?  Great planning there TRU!
Yeah...I'm wondering why they just didn't do all this the next day instead. Just seems unfair to kids that it is a school night. I was hoping I could do the crazy midnight thing with my kids.

What's the issue? It's a Friday night, they can sleep in in the morning.

^the 4th is friday, so this event is at 1201am Friday MORNING.  If you want to bring your kids they still have to go to school later that day on Friday.

Yea... Seems like they are rewarding negative parenting.  I would love to take my boys but this is way too late.

Hhhh, didn't think of that. And 12 o'clock is usually the deep-sleep time for kids....

i'm in times square with my daughter on the 4th! however, we don't get there until the afternoon.
  • rawbobrawbob Member Posts: 535
does anyone know if any of the Lego stores in Manhattan will be doing 'force friday' events? I am slightly disappointed all the Star Wars stuff at Toy"R"Us is happening on the 3rd and not the 4th. Why have a big promo event on the day before all the toys are released?
  • scotty12scotty12 Member Posts: 831

Anyone talked to their TRU staff to see what actually is happening for this event?  Is this a "kids only" brick and their only getting a few or can I hope to come across one on Friday morning at normal business hours?

  • dannyrwwdannyrww Member Posts: 1,394
On facebook they said all who are in line will get one....my guess is gone by morning.
  • vwong19vwong19 Member Posts: 1,191
School for my little ones doesn't start until the 8th. Sucks for some school districts. Anyway the incentive is not enough.
  • Russell844Russell844 Member Posts: 2,392
The Brick Fan is reporting that the commemorative "brick" is actually a 1x6x5 printed panel. Meh.

I think I will keep my eyes on ebay for the brick.... since TRU is far away from here I live...

check out what_the_brick on instagram.  They appear to have gotten their hands on several of the star wars bricks and said they were told anyone can get them at the event tomorrow night.

One of the nice things is that I am not doing anything tomorrow night. I'll probably get  to TRU at 10 with snacks, my college homework, and of course a Star Wars t-shirt like everyone else. The brick looks lovely. I would love to try and get 2 of them. I dont know if that will be possible since I am by myself.

So is this promo on in the UK or just the US?

In the US, kids go back to school at different times. My nephew has already been in school for a few weeks; my daughter doesn't start school until next week. What is Toys R Us to do, check with every location all around the world and have the event based on when kids go back to school? Also, this isn't a Toys R Us thing. Hasbro, Lego and other toy and merchandise manufacturers want their products released at the same time.

You don't have to bring your kids with you to "Force Friday". Go to TrU at midnight, grab the free give-a-ways for your kids and then bring them back to TrU later that day.

UK TRU is selected stores only so check your local one to find out  what is happening.

Smyths toy stores are also doing a selected store event thing.
  • ShibShib Member Posts: 5,459
I just checked both TRU UK and Smyths...far more Smyths branches doing stuff, but neither have any stores very close to me doing anything (not that I was likely to go anyway)
  • VenunderVenunder Member Posts: 2,655
I'm quite surprised that Amazon have not got involved in this.
  • DollarStudiosDollarStudios Member Posts: 44
Does anybody know what is happening at Smyths stores in the UK? I live not that far from one and would consider going if there were LEGO promo items.

I'm confused, do you view this as a bad thing?  It seems cool to me.  At least it's not a Duplo brick like many such "giveaways bricks" are.
  • Russell844Russell844 Member Posts: 2,392
Not necessarily a bad thing. I, like probably a lot of people, expected it to be a Duplo brick. A panel isn't exactly a brick.
  • CCCCCC Member Posts: 20,526
It would have been nicer if it was a regular 2x4x3 (30144) brick, they use those for quite a few promos.

If anybody in North America is attending any of these events I would welcome some photos for an article on the Brickset homepage. Please send photos to [email protected] with your username and the location of the store if you wish to be involved. Thanks!

I was number 7 in line. I got the free brick, two free non-LEGO posters, and an X-Wing. there was no free polybag with purchase.

Force Friday was very underwhelming in the UK at Smyth's.

Free posters and SW stickers. Free C3PO lego Keychain was nice.
Fortunately only 30-35 people at the store I went to.
So I had a good chance to win something in the raffle.
I was lucky enough to get some little diecast ships, although I was tempted by the Wookie Mask. :)
It was a shame they did not put some new Lego into the raffle.

I went to Smyths at 2pm this afternoon and they were given away free posters. Must have been left over from midnight.

The TRU in Watford (not one of the ones doing early opening) wouldn't let people near the sets or toys, and we're still putting up the posters and hoardings at 2pm today. They had an incomplete Finn, and we're missing Rey's face. Ren's lightsaber was just being stuck on. Can't help but think that they really messed up by being unready and unwilling to help, without displays being up and finished, but still advertise Force Friday :s

Went to my TRU today and they had a number of free bricks left for those that asked nicely.

PS: It's a very nice brick - it reminds me fondly of the Classic Space video panels

PPS: Holy crap has Star Wars gone nuts with toys.

I went this morning with my kids while running errands. We asked if there were any leftovers and the nice lady gave each kid a handful. So if anyone missed out and wants one I have a few up for trade.

I just came back from my TRU and the lady at the front desk said they didn't get any of the promo items, only the new merchandise.  Not sure I believe that...

Was at my local TRU no special promotions just the one voucher per purchase sticker, fortunately the sales assistant on the till suggested putting each through the till individually so with the full first wave, 75112 and 75111 I achieved a forty pound saving,  on par with VIP rewards more or less am very pleased with the buildable figures, General Grevious is truly stunning.

Today, I called the same TRU that I went to late Friday morning, the one that told me they never got promo items, and this time, the person who answered said they had no more posters but some of the Lego bricks left.  That's all I wanted and I was given one when I went to the store.  So much for the lady who said they didn't have promo items.
