Hi, 2nd post here- nothing really great to brag on yet, but I found a Mos Eisley Cantina clearanced at Walmart for 49$... oh, and in a TRU last week, there were two series 13 CMFs loitering on a peg so I snapped em up; they were BOTH Hot Dog Guys!

They were asking $100 and so I messaged saying I would pick it up now for $80 and he replied sold immediately.  The kid helped me load it all up and was trying to tell me what some of the loose bricks were from.
lol that was already a great deal, but you had to bargain even more? how cheap of you :p

I was able to talk a Wal-Mart manager into selling me #60036 Arctic Base Camp for $30 down from the full price of $89.97. I was pretty happy, it's the last boxed set from the latest City Arctic theme that I hadn't been able to land a deal on (still don't have the accessory sets for the theme, but I don't really need them, I've never like the LEGO tents much and I already have all the parts that come in those two sets).

Found a sealed and boxed Biker Bob in a charity shop for 50p. Not bad considering its 17 years old.

bit of a belated one because I've only just realised how good a deal it was...bought 2 random LEGO trees in a junk shop for £1 about 2 weeks ago...recognised one as a cypress tree which I've seen people talk about so thought it was probably worth it...just looked on Bricklink...glad I picked it up now.

I saw an ad on Gumtree that was 4 weeks old. The ad contained these words: "Lego SuperHeros, Star Wars, Ninjago". It was advertised at £15 and yet nobody wanted it. They guy even offered to post it at cost. So I offered £10 and he seemed happy. The sets had missing figures and parts, but most was there. As a bonus was a near complete 9494 that was not in the photos. In total there were 2 tiny sets and 5 bigger sets.
I buy Lego in Edinburgh for this very reason, people up are there are so rich they only buy new...
One should always look at old ads in case they did not sell. Things get pushed down on gumtree quite quickly.

I've really not had much luck with this kind of thing. Other than the Venator-Class Republic Attack Cruiser that I got for $10 instead of $120, I really don't have much luck with the older sets. However, I did find a Helm's Deep for $30 off retail price a couple years back. Think that was pretty nice considering the prices it goes for now.

Spot on - I am just outside Glasgow and frequent Gumtree a bit and you will be surprised how much stuff is still listed after a while and worth a call. You can spot the people who are merely getting rid of the kids now disused lego to clear some space and the people who know exactly what they have.

I spotted a lone Galaxy Squad Star Slicer on the shelf at Toys R Us. The box was in mint condition so on a whim, I decided to scan it. Three measly cents! Brought it up to the register and gave them a dollar bill and got 97 cents back.
    Wow!

Yup, you see the same sellers all the time ( black and white pillow with circle pattern guy for example). Are you east or west of the city? Curious how close the 'competition' is :)

Paid $15 for #6454, four missing pieces but easy to replace, in very good condition, with box & instructions.

One of my local Targets is remodeling. A couple days ago I found a couple #30201 by a register. They scanned for $3.99 each and I bought both. One of my favorite polys.

Not really a brag but I was unaware that Santa's workshop was coming back and had been toying with the idea of getting one off ebay for £100. Did a day trip in Germany yesterday and spilt my lunch down myself. Went into a department store for a new shirt and came out with a copy of Santa's workshop for under £50 given the exchange rate I got. Bit too early to set for Xmas but bargain!

We finally sorted out that bin and it did have everything they said, plus some CMF and some sets they didn't have the manual for. I'm super happy with this score. We built a bunch of the sets last night with the kiddo, he had a blast.

All Scooby Doo sets were being sold for 10% under retail on Craigslist Orlando Florida. Man claimed he bought for son but the kid didn't want them so he needed money back. He lost receipt so I lucked out. Checked contents all there and in great shape.

East but not by much - I wouldnt bother classing me as any "real" competition lol.

If you are east of Glasgow then you might be "Star Wars man" Robotchilli?
The guy whom claims to buy Star Wars Lego for his son and puts up wanted ads once a month or so... Could be genuine, though. Some people need a massive amount of things they collect....

My dad just went to an auction for a dinner set. He did not find it but he did find a huge lot of lego. Nothing too old or rare but some of it is really expensive now. I have counted 53 boxes and at least two dozen sets without boxes. About $3000 of value and my dad got it for $600.

I see that too, I'm sure its one of the same people that's puts up 4-5 different sets on every few weeks. I'm not against people wanting to buy but saying its for their son all the time is a bit off. Any betting they say they don't have much money either to get the price down. TBH I've never bought Lego from gumtree. There was the one guy selling about £1500 worth of stuff for £200 but I suspect someone offered him more. And as there are clearly a few east Glasgow peeps, Cumbernauld LUG anyone?

I'm not really a collector, but this seemed like a very nice deal for a small display novelty:

A Samsonite 703 "Small Basic Set" from the early 1960s for just under $13 shipped, which is a third of what someone on eBay paid ($39.95 shipped) last month.  (And, that's the only recent sale I could find.  There's been none on Bricklink, and only three sets are in stock, but all by the same seller over in Belgium.)

Box is in good condition. The pieces look practically new, with no discoloration, no cracks, and just some minor sifting scratches, though the 10x10 red base-brick has a couple odd little marks and some extra scratches on the sides. But, originally, the 10x10 red brick would have been affixed to the top lid, so some condition issues are to expected for that piece. The piece count is suppose to be in the mid-120s (Bricklink lists 126), but my inventory of pieces came up to 134, so this looks to be more-or-less complete brick-wise. Though, it's apparently missing any instructions or catalog insert.

About half the pieces are 2x4 bricks, split almost evenly between red (31) and white (29). There's also 12 window pieces and 1 door piece. Plus 2 4x8 plates with the square waffle bottoms.

    A close-up of the windows, door, 10x10 base-brick, and 4x8 plates.

The underside of the 10x10 base brick and one of the 4x8 plates.

And, a view of the box with the 10x10 brick fitted over the top lid.

    ^A couple notes:

    1. I think the 8 white 1x6x2 windows (part family 645) are not native to the set.* A side panel of the box shows alternate models, all with only a few red windows, no white ones. Taking out those 8 windows, would reduce the part count to the magical 126 number listed by Bricklink. (*I'm guessing they might be from a parts pack, such as this one.)

And, because I like to be thorough...
    2. Regarding discoloration, one of the white 2x4 bricks had some isolated yellowing on a short side. And, the glass in one of the white 1x6x2 windows was really scratched for some reason, but since I think they're "extra," that's not a big deal.
