Series 1 at BAM bar

So I know this was posted on the main site before, but I'm hoping for an update or something. I've been following a couple discussions about re-releasing sets, and high prices for retired sets, and legend series, and while this topic almost coincides with those, I figured it would be best to start a new one.

Basically what went through my mind was I wanted to purchase a couple more series 1 zombies off bricklink for around 10 bucks each, figuring the prices on them can only go up, so it would be best to snag em now while they're affordable. Right before I checked out I remembered about series 1 being at the BAM bar. So I was wondering if anyone has inside information about future releases or if anyone's talked to an employee who could shed some light on this.

I think the BAM bar is a great idea, it's not technically re-releasing series 1 which would bring the prices down, but it's a good way to get selected elements. As of now they only have I believe 3-4 figs out, but no accessories, and no base plates. So BAM satisfies both cases, people can get the figs they missed out on, but there are elements that will still be unique to the original series. I for one (I'm sure everyone else is with me on this) am just interested in zombie heads or maybe the whole fig, for MOCs/displays, so I don't really care about the base plate or spade/turkey leg. So is anyone else waiting for this possibility or what?

    I'll get on my podium here since this just happens to be the latest instance: no one should feel the need to preface a post with a justification for its existence. We certainly aren't trying to rule with an iron fist, and I would hope that the users don't feel that we are. Furthermore, we're shrewd enough to deduce if a discussion is being rehashed with or without an explanation :P

    The zombie is probably not a good example hereas his shovel and baseplate are hardly rare. IMO, if TLG is just trying to dump extra S1 elements, I'm fine. But if they're reproducing previously rare elements just to promote BAM, then I think it dilutes the collectible i.e. Limited nature of the Minifigures. But I do love the clown hair so I'm happy to have another conduit to procure these. So I guess I have no discernible stance here. :o)

    Build-A-Minifig. It's a little station found in Lego stores where you can assemble assorted minifig parts into figures and purchase them. I think its [email protected]$10 in the US.

    Build 3 for £5 in UK. But you can only build the figure (no accessories), so legs/torso/head/hair or hat.

    ^In the US they let ya get an accessory and sometimes they'll let you get 2 if they're not too strict about it. Cups, radios, shovels, brooms, swords, chainsaw, etc.
    Here's something I found(about 3 weeks back)...some people have been seeing Series 1 parts at their BAM bars... -

    Looks like they found Forest Men, Clown and even Mermaid parts.

    I'm going over to my local shop tomorrow to see if they have anything new in their Bam. Last time I found these that they didn't previously have (Blacktron torso's, white space helmets and Atlantis legs).

    It's apparently not just 3 minifigures, but any 15 elements for $10 in the states. I had heard that people were able to do this in the past, and when I found these babies, I gave it a try. I was able to walk away with 10 of those Blacktron torsos, three hair pieces and two heads for $10.

    JACKPOT!!!

    I'm not certain it's an "officially sanctioned" way of doing the BaM, but it's worth a shot.

    @Princedraven - BaM in the UK is £3.50 and does include accessories, the UK stores all have the new series 1 parts already too. This is in the 5 UK Brand Retail stores.

    I know its more expensive at LEGOLAND, and doesn't include accessories, but it only launched there a few weeks ago when this years season started. Is that where you experienced it?

    It's apparently not just 3 minifigures, but any 15 elements for $10 in the states.

    Yeah Legoland Windsor, cant believe it is £1.50 more there!! wow
    I didn't know that Legoland isn't owned by LEGO either (Merlin bought it apparently).

    Indeed, Lego retain a 30% stake in the parks, and really don't exercise a lot of control, just the odd bit of brand guidance. It's an interesting situation... TLG never ran them amazingly as a theme park business, but they were a great brand showcase.... since the change, it can't be denied that Merlin run them more successfully as a theme park, but the brand focus has just gone to pot big time.

    I worked at LEGOLAND for 10 years, and the difference in the two eras is so obvious.... All very interesting though.

    I got a bunch of clowns from the BAM in Schaumburg.. Sweet deal.. Like Yellowcastle I like the clown hairs too. They also have the Cheerleader and Nurse hair as well.

    @vynsane - I think the, "Any 15 Pieces is Ok" theory is likely not sanctioned. While I know store personnel that have allowed it, I also know those that have not. Thus, it's probably going to stay hit or miss for most people until/unless TLG sends directives down to stores to end this practice. I would definitely be interested in just grabbing 15 clown wigs but don't want to be that guy holding up the line and getting yelled at by store employees. :o)

    I do not frequent my local LEGO store (Mall of America is 60+ Miles away)...

    I am assuming they only handle recent Minifig Torsos - BUT do they ever stock older MiniFigs? Or how about Headgear - is there a good variety?

    The last time I was there I found a bunch of pieces that were mostly of Town/City theme.

    The Mall of America is also the closest store to me (300 miles though). I get there about 5-6 times each year for work. Every time I've been there lately (three times this year) they've only had a single torso - the blue overalls over a white shirt.

    I'd be happy to see any other torso there, but a CMF1 torso would make my day.

    It the LDC Manchester they have no accessories, only 3 different (male) heads, police, ship captain, construction worker and hoodie torsos, and basic colour legs, and NO HEADGEAR :-( It's £2 a minifigure of they have some prepacked sets of 3 for £7. They do have those yellow plastic cases but you have to pay an extra £2 if you don't want your minifigures loose!

    Don't know much about the parks. I'd be curious to know more. Maybe another discussion thread?

    Yes, it's quite possible others will be denied. I was buying two BaM sets, one my daughter made and the one that I got, so maybe I was given a pass because of that. Of course, I then used $5 VIP points to get mine basically half-price!
