The below link contains pictures of all the new Episode VII sets. Most of them look pretty awesome. Not a fan of the Snowspeeder...seems like a step back in technology and open air? Sure ok.

ahhhh!!!!!!!! I am way too excited. They just need to come soon. The figures look great! I like a lot of the torso printing on some of them.

The Tie Fighter is the best set so far in this group in my opinion.

Sometimes I wonder if designers have contests with each other with how many stud-blasters and/or linear launchers they can cram into sets.

The Lego cross-lightsaber is a little uninspired, but Chewie's crossbow is beautiful.

I think the red looks odd on the tie but like it otherwise. It looks much better to me than the Halloween inspired x-wing though.

Idk. Initial impression is that they all look kind meh to me. maybe I will come around as more details come out

I am of course assuming there will be second wave around December or January.  Guessing maybe we get a Luke and/or Leia in that wave, along with some other goodies

I'm confused why Bard the Bowman and Major Bludd are on the Millenium Falcon.

    (There's a spoiler!)

    But I'll buy it!

The Falcon on the far right.. do you think it is the same size as the mid-scale ship that came out a few years ago?

Apparently there was too much grey in Star Wars.  What a bunch of "...meh"

Say what you will about the Prequels, at least they introduced new ship designs.  This is not so much a diss on the Lego sets but these ships look like rehashed OT designs.  I'm wondering if The Force Awakens will be lackluster aside from some fun space battles.
  • BrickPaulieBrickPaulie USAMember Posts: 15
@Mathew, that is exactly how I have been feeli about this ovue, more and more so as the details have come out over the months. Little by little it has been becoming apparent that most of the spacecraft in the new movie are many of the same ones as in the OT. I have been thinking o myself that something about is movie just doesn't fel 'Star Wars-y", and I think that is because of the lack of innovation, the lack of that awed nostalgia that I came to associate with the wonderful aesthetic pleasures of the PT.

Does anyone know if these images are legitimate? has the embargo been lifted? Or are they leaked?

@BrickPaulie I'm going to assume legit but leaked, which means TLG will get the takedown notices out shortly.

Also, thanks @Thanos75. I will never be able to get that comparison out of my mind now.

I quite like the colour scheme of the new X-Wing and it will be interesting to see if the inside of the MF is different but apart from that it's a bit of a meh.

Contrary to a lot of you guys, I really like these a lot!!! They look like the logical evolution from the OT vehicles, which in turn makes them look 'realistic' (if you cam say that without sniggering) for their era, a couple of years after the destruction of the second Death Star.
The PT vehicles were just colorful, bizarre and gemeric creations with no binds to the OT vehicles: they were obviously made by designers / marketeers to look 'cool' and to appeal to young kids. These look like they should again, with the 'functional' look that made the OT vehicles so nice.
It's also nice to see so many sets for the bad guys... Can't wait to get all of these!

I quite like the X-Wing and the TIE (everything old is new again) and makes a change from the standard re-issues.  A lot of the other sets mean nothing at the moment, so difficult to get too excited without having seen them in "the flesh".  Some nice new accessories (desert headgear w/ goggles, silver blasters), but not impressed with the crossed lightsaber... and in the MF set, why have the dudes to the far right got Pirate weapons?  That may have been OK ten years ago, but c'mon!

LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens - Wave 1 (2015) Analysis:

    #75099 Rey's Speeder
Unlike normal sets this vehicle is slightly larger than what is meant to be in scale with LEGO Minifigure however this allowed the designers nail the design of the speeder besides the curves. The two included Minifigures are great but BB-8 would have been a nice addition considering the size of the set. I love how refreshing it is to get all these new characters and versions of characters. They all look like a new generation of Minifigures with a new style of design an approach with considerably a much more details.

    #75100 First Order Snowspeeder
I like the shape of the Snowspeeder as it’s something unique but the greys makes it slightly underwhelming. I like that this set doesn’t include any specific characters which allows it to be a great battle back to grow your First Order Snowtooper army!

#75101 First Order Special Forces TIE Fighter
I really like that that he TIE Fighter has finally got a new design and colour scheme which makes it look more intimidating with the red, black and greys. Like the #75100 First Order Snowspeeder this is also a good set to get multiples of to create an army. I wonder if anyone would try and attempt to recreate #75095 UCS TIE Fighter into the new one. I can see it has the two exact dishes with new printing so I guess it’s possible :)

    #75102 Poe's X-Wing Fighter
Ironically this looks like a Halloween special edition of the X-Wing! Honestly I like the redesign but the colour scheme looks odd. In the trailer we still see the normal X-Wings so this is most likely a unique one. The Minifigure selection is average and the set reminds me of the original LEGO X-Wing with the smaller platform stuff. I dislike the design of BB-8 but I'm not 100% sure how I would like it either.

    #75103 First Order Transporter
I believe this is seen in the Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer when the Stormtoopers are being transported to battle. In my opinion this is the weakest model in this wave with this boring shape and colour scheme. However I think this will be one of the most popular sets just for the Minifigure selection with Captain Phasma and a couple of Stormtroopers and Snowtoopers.

    #75104 Kylo Ren's Command Shuttle
The design of this ship is awesome and much better than Darth Vader’s however the grey colour scheme still puts me off and makes it look slightly dull. I think we all are going to have to get used to grey stuff in Star Wars which is why most people think these are ‘meh’ when they see the new sets. The design of the ship reminds me of the Imperial Shuttle from the nose of the ship and a little in the wings.

This is another strong selection of figures which makes up for the size of the ship and price. However my biggest problem with this entire wave of sets is that I really dislike the choice of the Kylo Ren's Lightsaber and mask. They both look bad and out of place. I would have liked the lightsaber hilt to be like this*** and the mask as a normal LEGO head and a second head piece for his normal face if one wanted to have the mask without the hood.

    ***Kylo Ren's Lightsaber Hilt
LEGO Star Wars The Force Awakens - Kylo Rens Lightsaber Hilt

    #75105 Millennium Falcon
In my opinion this is the best value for money in the entire wave and it’s the best Millennium Falcon (normal retail sets) design from LEGO ever! likely the fact it has tan and dark red to show weathering and that it’s old. The have also added tons of grabbling and small designs to make it significantly more interesting than the others. This is another set with a solid Minifigure selection. I really like Chewbacca’s new crossbow stud shooter.

    1. #75105 Millennium Falcon
    2. #75104 Kylo Ren's Command Shuttle
    3. #75099 Rey's Speeder
    4. #75101 First Order Special Forces TIE Fighter
    5. #75102 Poe's X-Wing Fighter
    6. #75103 First Order Transporter
    7. #75100 First Order Snowspeeder

#75105 Millennium Falcon, #75104 Kylo Ren's Command Shuttle and #75099 Rey's Speeder are my favourite models out of the seven 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' sets but honestly I want all of them for the new Minifigures!

The PT vehicles were just colorful, bizarre and gemeric creations with no binds to the OT vehicles: they were obviously made by designers / marketeers to look 'cool' and to appeal to young kids.

But this movie takes place thirty years after the events of Return of the Jedi. Consider how "Attack of the Clones" takes place twenty-two years prior to "A New Hope", and how the Republic ships and military technology look. You can see the design aesthetic is established in those early (smaller) Acclamator-class Star Destroyers (wedge-shaped, gray), but they are quite distinct from the Star Destroyers you see in the original trilogy.

You can see a similar line of evolution with the new X-wing. It has a long snout and s-foils that lock into an attack position shaped like an "X", but there are distinct differences. There are different engines altogether, and the socket for the astromech droid apparently now supports those of the rolling ball variety. The Millennium Falcon is a personal vehicle, so one could expect it to hardly change at all. I suppose the First Order uses TIEs because they are cheap and easy to mass produce. I'm sure the First Order is not as rich as the Galactic Empire, so it would make sense they are reusing some technology with minor updates (although, to be honest, that doesn't seem to be the case with their other vehicles and vessels. Hmmm).

My main point of contention in bringing this up is to counter the perception that the prequel trilogy was filled with bizarre, random designs just to sell toys. Hogwash! People expecting more OT-type stuff in Episode I were bound to be upset. The film focuses on Naboo, which is a distinct planet with its own culture. Their sleek, shiny ships naturally stand out and look wildly disparate from the designs seen in the OT. They were pacifists, which is why the Trade Federation thought they could bully them into signing the trade treaty. And speaking of the the Trade Federation, a intergalactic corporation run by aliens, it makes perfect sense that their ships and style were completely different as well.

We don't start seeing proto-OT designs until Attack of the Clones. If an argument for making stuff up for toys could be made, it would be here. But there are "binds" to the OT with the Republic Star Destroyers, Jedi Starfighters, and ARC-170s. The Confederacy ships and tech is definitely of a style that went away once the Empire was established, but those designs built upon Trade Federation stuff seen in Episode I and other, alien companies and organizations around the galaxy. I for one rejoiced at seeing such variety in ship, weapon, and vehicle designs. It made the GFFA a much bigger, more interesting place. So ol' George got to pocket a lot of money off some "cool" toys sold. So what? The ships were designed to look cool because people like to see cool stuff. Kids like cool toys. It's a space fantasy; the designers are artists and dreamers who doubtlessly mined their inner child for inspiration in these designs, as well as their love for Star Wars in general. Perhaps we should celebrate, rather than denigrate, them for what they added to our favorite galaxy far, far away.

The prices of these sets were released a while ago and they seem very expensive -

    • 75099 Rey's Speeder - 193 pieces - £19.99, €29.99, $19.99

    • 75102 Poe's X-wing Starfighter - 717 pieces - £69.99, €99.99, $79.99
    • 75103 First Order Transporter - 792 pieces - £79.99, €114.99, $89.99

£79.99 for 75103 - Lump of grey, seems ridiculous.

I'm sure that the film will be a visual feast of special effects regardless of what we may think about individual ship designs. I just hope that the story line supports the effects. Just say no to midichloreans!

wow, those prices... do they expect to sell any of them? outside of USA, I mean...

165 € for millenium falcon is ridiculous, it's more than for a frigging modular.

the less grey ones actually look pretty cool.

These sets will have a whole new meaning once I see the movie.  Right now they are just legos....after the movie comes out, I see it, then they will be Star Wars Legos.  If I don't like the idea in the movie, I wont like the idea in lego, but if I like the movie, then I'm buying a lot of Star Wars stuff....even that "lump of grey"

Who cares what Susan Williams says.  She's probably old now and says "Legos" all the time.

Getting back on topic (sort of):  SW 7 looks like a nostalgia trip much like Jurassic World was.  It will be good fun and make a ton of money for Disney.  But after it's over nobody will think of it being special like the Original Trilogy.

So BB-8 is only in the Millennium Falcon set?  I was thinking of skipping that one since it's not that different to the Falcon I've already got, but... clever girl, Lego.  Oh well - I've passed on 'upgrading' Slave 1 and the Sith Infiltrator to newer builds, so I suppose I'm due a cost-ineffective indulgence just this one.  It's the Falcon after all.

I chuckle at the Halloween jokes but that X-Wing actually looks like a sweet paint job to me, so no complaints there.  The shuttle is... ungainly-looking, reminds me oddly of an old Kenner mini-vehicle scaled up - female officer in that set though, can't recall another since Juno Eclipse way back when.  The troop transport looks, well, 'flying brick' has rarely seemed so apt, but then, so much can change when you see a ship in action (I just have to think of my first impression of seeing the Twilight set).  Is John Boyega under one of those stormtrooper helmets, I wonder?  I hope we don't have to wait for the next series for him.  (Edited to add: oh wait, that's him with the Falcon, isn't it... I'm so used to picturing him with the armour.)

@MissKittyFantastico John Boyega's character Finn is in the Millenium Falcon set and he has what looks to be a nice new hair piece.

These vehicle designs make me worry for the movie. They look so non-descript, just gray angular boxes without much shape or detail. Aside from Rey's speeder bike which I really like.

The more I look at the "Halloween edition" X-wing, the more I like it. Not only does it stand out from the rest due to it's lack of gray-ness, but that new engine design gives the X-wing a real sleek look.

I'm also pleasantly surprised by the Kylo Ren fig. I thought it would be a printed head and hood and LEGO surprises us with a new helmet too. Nice.

I only wish Captain Phasma was not included in a set. I was really hoping for a chrome Phasma give-away. :(
  • cswacswa Member Posts: 8
Love these sets. Unfortunately the First Order sets look slightly underwhelming by being so grey, but the designs are unique and at the very least, original and interesting. My favorite so far is the X-wing being the most unique color scheme (if it's Poe's custom colors it's a nice similarity to the X-wing series of books, where the pilots custom color their own fighters at times) and I'm partial to the orange and black, as it's a scheme for most of my favorite sports teams. Gonna be spending way too much on these sets...

Why does BB8 have a stud/socket on his head? Assume it's the same reason R2/astromech droid minifigs have one too. Which is why, exactly? Do they have a thing for wigs?

Really like Rey's Speeder. Dark red looks good and that headwrap/goggles part is excellent. Who or whatever the bad guy is looks awesome too. I probably won't get much of anything until after I've seen the movie though as that will shape my opinions on what ships or characters I really want.

Glad to see a new Millenium Falcon, I never quite had the cash for a 7965 but should hopefully be able to save for this one, and over here in the UK the new one's about the same price as the old.

Anybody else more excited about that short afro piece than anything else?

I think the sets are okay except for that the Millennium Falcon and Tie Fighter are pretty much rehashes of the 2011/2012 sets with a splash of "episode 7-nes". The cross light saber is a little disappointing but I'm sure that cross bar will be useful for MOCs and it would be great if we see it again in more colors. I'm happy to see the blaster pieces being released in flat silver, I think they look good in that color. The storm troopers, the storm troopers with the breathers and the Tie pilots all look good especially with the tube being molded into the Tie helmet, but those officer hats certainly look wacky and I'm interested to see how they turn out in the movie.

#75099 is nice, but LEGO has produced better sets for the OT vehicles previously. I guess it depends how much people want the latest Episode VII versions.
  • MissKittyFantasticoMissKittyFantastico AustraliaMember Posts: 197
@Redbullgivesuwind, ah yeah, I see the little guy now.  Still, the Falcon seems to be the only one with Boyega (in his civvies at least, I still think it'd be cool if one of the troopers with the dropship is him under the helmet), plus there's the new Bowcaster, and old Han...  Anyway, I wasn't bothered at 'having' to buy this Falcon, so I might as well.

@jonamok, I imagine the reason is just 'because it's Lego' - there's a place for smooth surfaces in builds, sure, but I feel figures and vehicles alike ought to wear their visible studs with pride.  Come to think of it, I don't recall ever seeing it but it'd be ideal for adding a sensor dish, a la EpV, to Artoo - must get on that.
  • jonamokjonamok UKMember Posts: 20
But then why not threepio? Just struck me as odd that it's only the shorter droids and no other characters (I think) that get the head stud.

^ It could also be so the piece was usable as something other than a domed astromech head. Mind you, there's also the in universe precedent that Astro mechs are generally loaded by their done also...
