    I don't really know. I would like to get the most for it but some prices i see are crazy.

    If you are new to eBay, selling a high value item like this might be problematic.   They have selling caps for new users to protect buyers.   They may also hold your funds for a couple of weeks.   You should try here in the marketplace first to see if you can get the price you want.   Remember eBay + PayPal = about 13% in fees, so your price here could be a little lower than eBay, but you might net more.

    I have an ebay account and have experience selling there.
    What is a decent asking price? The box is very nice but not mint. The inner boxes and instructions are good and the bags are unopened.
    I usually start auctions at $1.00 and let the market decide.

    www.bricklink.com is another option.

    You can also offer the set in the Brickset Forum marketplace, although as you're a new member with no posting or trading history you may find that folks are a little wary due to the value of the set.

    When selling in the Marketplace, I usually take the lowest price on Ebay, subtract fees and then take another 5% off for Brickset members. 

    Sometimes it can be difficult to find a value for a set that is opened, but not used.

    For a set like this Ebay won't really tell you how much it goes for.  Everyone on Ebay will ask for a ton of money, so much so that it's hard to really gauge what a fair or decent price would be.   I see this set going for upwards of $1,000 easily, but that's the list price, not the price someone actually paid necessarily.  I don't know if they actually sell often.

    Market value is $2400 and eBay sells 1-3 a month for the past few months.

    ^That is if it were sealed. The box has been opened, therefore it is not NISB. The value is probably lower than a NISB, but higher than a used set is excellent condition.

    So, are the boxes open or not.  I can see the tape on the outer box separating but do the inner boxes have tape as well?

    I would love to have an online Brickset Aution, much like the Polybag giveaway. You can post a time when the auction starts and people submit their bids for everyone to see. The auction can be done in an hour and the highest bid wins. I would love to see that. It would be like watching the countdown for the IS in the Predictions thread.

    The inner boxes are sealed. There is tape on the outer box and I'm still looking for the instructions.

    That's actually a really good idea.

    Put up a poly and a set date with the proceeds to Fairybricks. I don't know if that would be allowed though?

    Well we had an auction last year and it "worked" but took quite a bit longer than an hour which of course is how real auctions work, you accept bids until the jobs done.

    I would be happy to give the auction thing a go. Maybe in 2 weeks time as Bricktastic is this weekend and I think weekends gets more of a crowd on here. I have a lonely mountain #79018 that can be "given" away and the winner can donate straight to fairy bricks.  My main issue is the worldwide shipping could work out a bit pricey but I will look into it. 

    i will out up a separate post soon if people think it is a good idea.

    I have one of these in the exact same condition-- opened outer box, but sealed inner boxes.  When I tried to sell it (never ended up selling, I took it down off of BrickLink after a few months), I tried to determine if it was complete.  I didn't see the instructions or the baseplate, which I assumed would normally be in the outer box.  I noticed that they COULD be in the inner boxes, but didn't want to open them to find out.  So I weighed them, and found it was very likely that they were sealed inside the inner boxes.

    I'm still curious (since I still have it) if that's the case.  So if you (or anyone else) discovers where the instructions and baseplate are located, give a quick post!  ... But I do strongly suspect that they're in the inner boxes.

    Do we know what the sealed outer box set weighs?
    If it weighs the same as the four sealed boxes than the book and base plate are in the boxes.

    At the time, I don't think I had a scale that was precise enough to determine the validity of the weight.  Or maybe BL didn't have the weight listed at the time?  Not sure.  BrickLink quotes 6500g for the outer box, and 230g for the instructions (and 107g for a 32x32 baseplate), which is more than my food scale would take (although I don't remember the particulars of the weights I got).  I recall weighing each box individually, to see whether they might contain the baseplate and/or instructions-- as well as my existing copy of the instructions (from my collection).

    One of the boxes very clearly had SOMETHING large in it, thanks to the noise it would make when shaken gently back and forth-- quite possibly both the baseplate and instructions.

    Anyway, I recall concluding that it was very likely that both the instructions and baseplate were in the box, based on the weight and the sound it made, but I never got any 100% confirmation.

    I just weighed my set. The four sealed boxes and the outer box weigh 6530 g. I assume the extra weight is the tape on the box.
    The book and base plate are in the sealed boxes.
