1 entry on June 1st for buying the black manta set.  I live in Oklahoma.  Didn't think I stood a chance.

I've only seen one piece of somewhat credible evidence that anyone on the forum has actually won.

As a wise man often posts - if there isn't a time-stamped photo, it probably doesn't exist.  <<cough cough white rangefinder cough cough>>

But congrats to everyone that did win - that's a nice set to possess!

You can finance all of it with the money you'll receive from a Nigerian Prince...

For those who won......watch the following before you make the decision to sell/trade. The ending might be how it turns out in the end.

Given the current state of LEGO collecting, I suspect these things will go for far more than a helicarrier in very short order.

I agree.  I would even consider trading a MISB #10173 set for one.
  • Sethro3Sethro3 Member Posts: 1,016
My problem is the people who are willing to trade a helicarrier or more for it artificially sets the price too high for most people to even consider it.

Clearly I likely didn't win and I'd love to build one, but it sounds out of my league.

I agree it will be worth more than a hellicarrier soon.  I'd up my offer to a sealed Grand Emporium AND a sealed 2015 SDCC Action Comics Set.   How's that!  (At that price it might backfire on me though...)

My prediction, just for giggles, first one(s) sold on eBay will hit $500+. Probably more. I mean, Mr. Gold (5,000 made) sells for $1,000+. I suspect hard core comic book / LEGO fans will push this one into ridiculous heights, especially if the packaging it comes with is special / unique and not just a bag of parts. Personally, if I had one, I would just watch and see as $1,000 or more isn't completely unreasonable to expect. I actually hope I'm wrong. The only thing in my mind that might hinder the set is if the parts aren't that hard to come by or there are no special parts. If it is easy to bricklink it might hold the price back for a bit.

So... Still no European based winners??? Excellent (because if so, I can still imagine I have a chance)...
  • obi_gobi_g Member Posts: 617
In this case, I would be happy just getting the instructions. There is almost zero chance of winning, but on the positive side there doesn't appear to be any special pieces included in this set either. So the only thing the winners will get is an official box and instructions. Yes...there are those willing to pay through the nose for sealed sets, but I will be happy having the exact same set for a fraction of the aftermarket price.

Either way, life will go on...
as far as i know, the only unique items are the wheels, they're only available in the tumbler set. there have been reports that you can get these from S@H but i've not been able to find them in Blighty...

Has anyone started keeping an unofficial winner list? I'm at Bricks by the Bay so I can't.

Be good to get a review of the set from one of the winners that plans to open and build - I'm sure the Brickset community would like to see that?

None of the parts that can be seen in the images are unique; some are just more common than others. The wheels can be found in the UCS Tumbler set, and so are obtainable. Yes...they're expensive, but they are also simple to get by parting out a Tumbler set. TLG gave an estimated prize value for the Bat-Pod of $50, and my hunch is that a lot of that $50 is in the wheels.

My fear is that TLG tossed in some truly unique parts that can't be seen in the images so that creating one of these Bat-Pods is impossible short of substituting parts. That, and the possibility that the instructions never see the light of day because the set value increases to the point that only a crazy person would open it.

Didn't LEGO say somewhere that the instructions would be released in the future? I thought I read that somewhere in this thread?

Or have I just imagined that through sheer desperation of wanting to own/build this set???  :s
  • addemlitaddemlit Member Posts: 118
The build of it really doesn't amaze me. But if I plan on keeping it I'll probably bricklink one to have it displayed.

I heard the same thing...but I gave up prognosticating with regards to what TLG will actually do a long time ago.

If they haven't been uploaded by someone else by the time I receive my bat-pod (hasn't shipped yet from Lego).. you have my word that I'll scan my instructions for the community.
Thanks, thats pretty damn cool of you to do.
I'm not sure that I want to build one via BL and LEGO parts dept, but I have to admit if I had won one I would likely have bought a Tumbler to go with it.

The wheels on the tumbler are black... But those shown on the side on view of the batpod appear to be light grey! Weird assuming the tumbler gives birth to it using the same parts. Either way I will stick to the black wheel

LEGO told us Ambassadors that after all sets have been received the instructions will be available by contacting customer service.

To all the US winners, can you confirm if you made a purchase of a DC Superhero item during the sweepstakes period? I didn't make one but my GF and I entered a total of 60 times via email. I'm wondering if Lego required a purchase to qualify as a winner, which would actually be illegal in the States.
  • goshe7goshe7 Member Posts: 515
^ I think that is as likely as LEGO filtering only people that bought tumblers as a qualifying purchase.  Or not likely at all.

Furthermore, there is no reason that a sample handful of Brickset members is a valid statistical basis to infer the characteristics of the population of 750 winners.

The reality is that your total 60 entries was probably a very small fraction of the total number of entries received.

Even if we establish that everyone who won made a purchase, you would have to prove it wasn't just a coincidence.

Yea, I'd have to go w/ Goshe7 on that too.  Most of us probably entered 25-31 times if we remembered to email every day.  If everyone of us were diligent having that many entries is the same as having one entry.  You're just putting more entries than the avg joe who just did it a handful of times.  Again, 750 across the US and Canada...not sure if Europe got a crack at these.

Our odds were very slim from the start.

There are quite a few bricksetters, so it's easy to be discouraged when you see a handful of winners and you're not one of em. :(

Hubby got the email, we won one as well!!! We're super excited, but I don't think we're going to open it. I am from the US, but not a west coaster, my address is a military address.

We did not purchase a DC superhero item, we only sent the emails. We sent around 15 or so I believe. :)

    Cool!

That's all I wanted to know. I wasn't implying that there was something fishy going on with me not winning after sending 60 entries. I just wanted to see if there was a winner here that didn't make a purchase. My entries didn't go straight to the trash and I had a chance. That's enough for me :)

I emailed about 26 times and bought a keychain for another entry

I wonder if these later emails have a later "reply by" date.  I'm also curious if there are people who won that replied they didn't meet the inclusion criteria and they're sending out a few extra emails as a result.

I got a winning e-mail today at 4:37 and I need to reply by Monday, August 17.  I entered by email about 27 times and did not purchase any DC lego sets throughout the month.  So, there is hope that others will win!!

So I just got home and was reading all these new posts about winners getting emails today. Of course, a little voice inside my head said "go on then...open your email." So I did...and there sure as anything was...

    (drum roll please)

nothing. My dreams were crushed all over again.

Having heard no UK/European winners yet I have a feeling they are going to be announced later just like the promo itself. I guess it's a smaller chance :/

I know of someone in the uk who has had the 1st email which they replied to, and they have had a confirmation email stating that they had won and it would be sent out by registered delivery.
