Help finding set number

I has been wanting to have a try at building large scale brickbuilt minifigs for some time but wanted a template to start from.

The other day I saw a piece in a magazine that showed an old set 3xxx of just such a thing!

Does anyone know the set number or have an alternative template I can work from?

I guess this is the one you are referring to! Pretty cool set, I have been meaning to have a go at getting the parts together myself to build one.
