I think this thread has gotten more discussion about Targets practices and 'supposed' weekend losses than Target could even noticed in any profit reports/statements. I used the 20% discount and saved $12 on 1 Lego. I think we're giving ourselves and these forums a little too much credit and influence on the toy/Lego market. So how much could Target have possibly lost?....with the 'unethical acts' of a few using the 20% discount on Lego. Maybe $3-4million? Maybe? That's a lot of Lego sold in a couple of days for that to add up. Maybe Target was just moving the clearance discount along (from 15% to 35% or 30% to 50%) or just giving you a 20% discount. Or maybe Target knew that something like this would send enough of us over the edge not to shop there anymore because some of us are so disgusted, thus saving them even more millions of dollars. That's probably what they were thinking.
^ Do you get an itemized list from the grocery store? That's going to be a long, itemized statement even if you buy groceries there only twice a month. Every apple, deodorant, candy bar, milk bought every month. Maybe that's why you get a receipt. Then again, I've never tried returning an item to the store with my credit card statement. Walmart gives you a itemized list on their credit statements? And if the "company does go down, there are still plenty of other stores to fill the gap", well...good luck with Walmart and KMart.....those companies run everything pretty ship-shape. You shouldn't have a problem at all with those stores and finding all the LEGO you want and I couldn't imagine a better LEGO shopping experience.
They also had the Mammoth for $44.98. I wanted to pull the trigger on that one, but I don't know that I'm that sold on the set either.
It did, on the 12th of July.
On Sunday I was with the family shopping the clearance toys. I picked up
70169: Agent Stealth Patrol
it was marked on clearance for $34.99 down from $50. My wife used the cartwheel app, redcard, and her 5% pharmacy rewards when we checked out. I didn't expect cartwheel to apply to the Lego, but it did. The final cost was $24.99, 50% off. The set rang up as "building set" on the reciept, not Lego. I thought that might be why the cartwheel worked but now I'm seeing that other people ran into this too.Unless it TRULY was an Easter Egg of sorts...
Anyways, who "killed" on this deal? I'd like to hear some really good pickups from people who haven't yet posted theirs!
I did see an Emmett Constructomech at a few Walmarts yesterday for $45, but that's still more than I want to pay for that set.
Like I said, first time I've come across such an example--this was in Fargo. The two Targets here usually seem to have fair pricing, and there were other sets on clearance that were reasonable deals (such as #76013 The Joker Steam Roller).
Found these at a Target I went to today at lunch:
204-00-0201 70816: Benny's Spaceship, Spaceship, SPACESHIP! $29.98
204-00-1265 70807: MetalBeard's Duel $10.48
204-00-1227 10566: Creative Picnic $7.48
204-00-0236 42021: Snowmobile $5.98
204-00-1080 10574: Creative Ice Cream $4.48
204-00-1246 60041: Crook Pursuit $2.15
Found a few things last night in Central VA:
#70169-1 Agent Stealth Patrol $24.98
#70170-1 UltraCopter vs AntiMatter $34.98
#60043-1 Prisoner Transport $7.48
#70726-1 Destructoid $15.44
#70229-1 Lion Tribe Pack $4.98
Still seeing the Chima Mammoth for 50% off and the Milano for $49.98 (which is NOT 50% off, don’t care what the tag says).
#70167- Invizable Gold Getaway $14.98
#5001125- Sort and Store head $12.98
Also lots of >$10 Duplo sets
Was able to find the same as above but was able to pick up a few Bennys Space Ship for $29.98 but the Metal Beards Duel #70807 were $17.48 (I still passed). There were at least 50 of them, why I'm not sure. Also found:
#70141 Chima Vardy Ice Vulture Glider $5.98 204 00 0169
#70742 Ninjago Airjitzu Zane Flyer $6.98 204 00 1500
#21013 Big Ben Architecture $9.26 087 09 0249
#21002 Empire State Building $6.17 087 09 0238
Benny's spaceship would be a great parts pack for classic space. Would pick up as many as I could find.... which will be none.
My three Targets and three Walmarts regularly get cleaned out of discount Lego, or at least the bigger resell items, pretty quickly.
