If you're gonna compare a Hanzo sword, you compare it to every other sword ever made... that wasn't made by Hattori Hanzo.

My first thought was "I did not know one of the most famous ninjas was a blacksmith as well"

Then I realized it was just a reference to a movie :P

Looks like we're finally getting an Uncharted 2 Nathan Drake in Tibet minifigure:

This figure was already released in a polybag.

Never been a Ninjago fan but this set is incredible. Some of the best buildings I've seen by LEGO in a while. Definitely want. May have to wait. I still want the Slave I.

Actually, not quite. The character ("Grand Sensei" Dareth) was released in a polybag, but this version of him has a brand-new costume and expression. At least, the expression's new for him. For all I know it might be borrowed from another theme.

Is anyone able to tell me roughly how long this set could be available, based on other sets of this nature, such as Ewok Village? Will I have more than a year's time to buy this or  will I have to find a way to procure it as soon as possible?
  • BumblepantsBumblepants Member Posts: 7,730
^should be at least a year, probably 2 years, possibly more. Maybe until the Ninjago film drops? I forget when that will be so might be unrealistic

I don't have much to add to the discussion right now; except that I really really really like this set!
It is just there are so many sets being released, and there is such a huge amount of good stuff to collect. I feel TLG is saturating the market with so many sets, maybe even too many.
    ps.
I hope this set will stay around for at least 3 years.

It seems there are so many super expensive sets released these days. This set looks beautiful but there's no way i'll ever afford it. I'm still saving for a Ferris Wheel. That will be this years only expensive set.

I think this is a great set and I will put it on the list which is weird because I have zero Ninjago sets or interest. But comments above make me wonder how many high dollar sets TLG can have before they start to compete with one another. Currently, there are 30 sets out right now that are >$140. This one makes 31 (of course some are back ordered right now but still available). That seems like a lot of love for AFOLs, maybe too much.

Yeah, the ninja often use "Ninja Go!" (two words) as a battle cry in the TV series, but the theme name and the name of the land the series takes place in is one word (pronounced "NinJAHgo"). The theme name has sort of a double meaning. It resembles the words "Ninja Go", but it's also a portmanteau of "Ninja" and "LEGO".

This next wave of ninjago is really getting expensive.  A theme that was mainly $10-30 sets will only have one that is $20 and one that is $30.  This is out 10 sets being released.  I think only 3/10 sets are likely to be under $50.  This is kind of ridiculous considering this is a line aimed for kids and not adults.  Seems like ninjago's popularity is rising but the cost of these sets is a great way to cool it off.  My son loves ninjago but we won't be getting too many of the upcoming sets...we'll get this temple of course

Are you forgetting the six $10 Airjitzu sets?

Also, the first wave this year had plenty of lower-priced sets: #70752 ($7) #70753 ($8), #70754 ($15), #70755, #70756, and #70745 ($20), #70746, and #70747 ($30). Despite those having different branding than the new ghost-themed sets, most places will still have those on shelves until at least the beginning of next year. So I think the LEGO Group has good reasons for not flooding the market with even more low-priced sets.

It's really no different than their other themes, which generally start with more low-priced sets at the beginning of the year and move to more high-priced sets in the middle of the year. The only thing making this wave's Ninjago sets seem any different from usual is that it's the first year that the mid-year Ninjago sets have had a decidedly different "theme" for the first and second halves of the year.

I didn't count the Airjitzu sets because they seem like their own novelty line like the spinners, and the Chima speedors.

You might be right about it being in line with other sets but i can't remember when ninjago had more than one $99+ set let alone three (most likely) coming this year.  Also having seven sets that are over $50 seems to be a lot at once, especially for a line that is geared toward kids.
What I'm afraid of is that with so many sets and the cost attached to them, people will quit on the ninjago line altogether.
One last thing, the costs are all assumptions according to the number of pieces in these sets so I might actually be totally off.

I find it funny how quickly they ramped up the theme after basically planning to kill it after season two.

The lineup and pricing points are starting to resemble the primary SW line.

Well, this year's Ninjago lineup has more sets than most previous years in general, not just at the higher price points. There were still more Ninjago sets overall in 2012, although a lot of those were spinners and booster packs.

By the way, if you're curious about the final USD pricing for the summer Ninjago sets, the online LEGO shop has them all listed as "coming soon", with prices included.

Yea, you are definitely right about the overall abundance in the number of sets being released this year.

And thanks for the heads up on the pricing.

back to the temple... I wish they included the main characters in regular civilian clothing which they haven't released yet.  I also wish they had included a regular Cyrus Borg instead of one of the generic figures.

it's not overpriced like star wars. star wars is like 15 cents per piece, while ninjago is under 10.

Right, less the inflated licensing fees.  The price points are the same, you just get more in the Ninjago box...

How about Daredevil, Elektra, Batman, Wolverine.....they are all at least marginally Ninjas depending on which continuity you go to.

Sho Kosugi is the closest you are going to get to a real life "well known" Ninja. He has had extensive training in ninjutsu. Maybe I am biased because I grew up on 80's Action Movies ;)

I have little recollection of what Jem was all about, but as a little kid interested in art and doing a lot of drawing, Jem was an interesting cartoon (next to various other sources) for getting an idea on the basics of how to draw attractive girls/females that looked anatomically correct instead of some sort of exaggerated Betty Boop pin-up, Japanese acid eyed animé, or other total caricature type.

    Also dude, 'Buddy'?
    'Buddy', really?!
I ain't your 'buddy', Brony! In case the sniffing got you high ;)

I still think I'm going to try for the early access on this. It just looks really cool and since my fiance and I decided we have no intention of moving anytime soon, we'd like to really start getting shelves and stuff up around our apartment for stuff like this.

Dumb question maybe: Will the temple be available in retail stores or Amazon? Or is it an exclusive S@H set? Need to plan how I spend my money during the rest of the year.

I found it on the US shop@home under Ninjago and Exclusives.  My guess is it will only be sold through Lego or maybe TRU........  Don't buy from TRU....

Not sure if you have any moral objections to Toys 'R' Us, but these days they're not anywhere near as bad about pricing as they used to be. They are now willing to price-match their competitors (including LEGO.com), so long as it's a competitor that has the set in-stock on their website or on a printed flyer. This means that you pretty much never have to worry about markups on recently-released sets, though with older sets you might run into more trouble.

I don't know about brick and mortar stores (other than LEGO brand stores) that carry direct-to-consumer sets like this, but I know Toys 'R' Us and Target both do on their website, and I imagine other toy stores and department stores might also.
  • Lego91Lego91 Member Posts: 86
No TRU near me, so that is not even an option. Having my fingers crossed that it end up in my local department store. Modulars can be bought there after a while and also those huge Star Wars sets. My Grandma worked there and gets discount when she buys things. That would save me quite a bit money.

I did the same thing! Currently trying to modify them into one large building, modular-style, and not doing very well. It's hard making the floors detachable.
