[US] The LEGO After-Christmas Sale

brickupdatebrickupdate Member Posts: 1,020
edited December 2011 in Shopping USA/Canada
Hi everyone,
This has been discussed for weeks on here in various threads, but I thought the time was right to create a dedicated thread for the LEGO official post-Christmas sale. I'd love to try to get a master list of sets we feel will be discounted.

Last year, the online sale started on Dec 24th, in the evening. The in-store sale started when the stores opened on Dec 26th.

So I would love to hear what sets you feel will be included in the sale. When I have time later today, I will add sets to the list.
Thanks!
-Dan

Could we have different thread for UK and US please? Which is this?

My prediction is that we will not see a huge sale this year. Unlike last year, [email protected] has already sold out of a ton of the EOL sets across numerous themes (City, SW, POP, HTF, Kingdoms, etc.). At this time last year, there were only a handful of sets that had sold out (Taj Mahal, Carousel, GG, etc.). The 50% sale after Christmas was seemingly used primarily to get rid of excess inventory of EOL sets. TLG seems to have done a better job of inventory management this year and does not appear to be sitting on a lot of excess inventory that would require a big sale to move out. Therefore, I am not expecting a huge Christmas sale on par with last year. The brick and mortar stores may be different since they are likely to have at least some excess inventory, but I am not anticipating anything big online (at least from [email protected]).

^^ +1. I think this is US. I've said it before, but it is really helpful when people put UK or US at the start of threads as you can't see the category when viewing the mobile site.

I think the MMV and FB
just like if any store have EN or IF left Im guessing those will be on sale at the stores.
Same with a lot 'sold out' on LEGO.com

I think any Potter left and PotC are gone.
    Technic Excavator is a possibility
Yellow Cargo train. (I just do not see LEGO wanting to keep two in stock)
    Cars
If there is any TS left
    The Repair vehicle from city.
    Seaplane
    LEGO city truck
    Small car from City.
    Winter post office
    Bakery (if any are left)
Maybe the train station and Rail vehicle (kinda new though)
Almost forgot the 3661 Bank and money transfer set.. I have a feeling that will be gone as I believe they are gone from Target now.

I guess the question is LEGO only going to be heavily discounting sets they want gone? Or are they also going to put some regular stuff on sale?

I think City Corner and Public Transport Station will also be on sale on the 26th, as they are both listed as sold out at [email protected]

I have moved this from "Collecting" to Shopping USA/Canada and added the [US] prefix to the start. That being said, I believe there is already a very specific thread regarding this so I'm not sure why we need another...

^^----Hey if they have any of those by my LEGO store and they are 50% Ill fight crowds for that (unless the FB or MMV are 50% off then that is where my money will go)

I was in Natick MA store yesterday. I asked a nice lady there if there's going to be a day-after-X'mas sale this year. She said she hadn't heard anything yet. However, she said that from what she saw in years past, there's eventually going to be a post-X'mas sale, just that it may not be on the 26th.

Question: How did you find out about the X'mas eve sale at [email protected] last year? Did you check the website regularly (incessantly, maybe)? Or did you get an email announcement from LEGO beforehand?
  • brickupdatebrickupdate Member Posts: 1,020
@dato Last year the sale went live on Dec 24th online to everyone's surprise. It was a frustrating evening for most, as sets such as Green Grocer were listed, but said 'sold out' right away. So everyone felt they missed out on some amazing opportunity.

For the stores, I had to call my LEGO Store when they opened on Dec 26th to confirm they had a sale.

So in all likelihood, LEGO won't make an announcement about this sale, if and when there is one.

With all of the 2012 sets in the lineup, I can't imagine they won't do a sale. For the stores I went to last year, 3+ of them, there were sale items for WEEKS. It took that long to move all the product they had.

Salesperson at my local Lego store said the same thing, that they may have a sale, but not necessarily on the 26th... There's only so much money to go around, and to me it would be a wasted opportunity on their part if they didn't have a sale on the 26th... As we have seen already, target and amazon started early with their clearance...
  • rocaorocao Administrator Posts: 4,290
We already have a discussion with 59 posts containing speculation of which sets may be on clearance, so I don't see a need for this thread. http://www.bricksetforum.com/discussion/2312/what-do-you-feel-will-be-on-sale-on-dec-26th-2011/p1

I'm going to close this thread, and re-open it around Christmas time so that it can contain actual information about the sale and not speculation.

    Thread re-opened...

It's 2 minutes until the sale is supposed to go live in the US. I'm here waiting for it, but I got a preview of the sets on sale, and there isn't anything in stock that I would buy :P
  • LegoFanTexasLegoFanTexas Member Posts: 8,404
Yes, if the sale is anything like the UK, I'm not interested either...
  • allmybricksallmybricks Member Posts: 156
There was NOTHING on sale at the Newark, Delaware, USA store. They had a few of the usual bins of magnets and misc stuff that was marked down... but no sets were on sale at all. Pretty disappointing, but like others have said I've taken advantage of some great sales this holiday season.

I also walked through B&N and Target in the same mall and didn't see anything. Target had a 30% off toy aisle, but the Lego that was on those shelves wasn't marked down 30% and the price checker wasn't showing 30% off either. Nothing that interested me anyway...

^ did you check polybags at Target?
  • LegoFanTexasLegoFanTexas Member Posts: 8,404
    Good morning everyone...

I actually am not going out today, I have not read about or seen anything worth buying, or at least worth jumping out of the house on boxing day for. :)

I am going to give it a few days, maybe the discounts will get better, maybe not. If not, then I am glad I did so much buying before Christmas.

    :)
  • allmybricksallmybricks Member Posts: 156
@sidersdd - The only polybag I saw was 30053 Republic Attack Cruiser which was scanning as $3.99. I didn't search the whole store because I wanted to get on with my day and I had never been in that Target before. The Target ad in the paper promoted that set as a free with a $19.99 City purchase I believe.

It's 5 minutes until open of my LEGO store on the west coast. I'm the only one here waiting. I'll post in the next half hour if I find anything interesting
  • avoiceoreasonavoiceoreason Member Posts: 224
I got back a while ago from my store on the East Coast. Waste of time. Walked out with nothing. There wasn't anything there that wasn't on sale on-line and most of the stuff wasn't even marked as on-sale when I got there. I had to ask one of the employees about the Winter Bakery and he took it to the scanner and was like, "oh, it is on sale."

Oh well, the boys filled up a pick-a-brick box so not a total loss I guess.
  • brickmaticbrickmatic Member Posts: 1,071
@avoiceofreason Which one did you go to?
  • allmybricksallmybricks Member Posts: 156
Oh wow - maybe I should have asked them to scan some things... haha.
  • brickupdatebrickupdate Member Posts: 1,020
The only store I went to today was Target. 30% off a bunch of sets that weren't very interesting. The big deal there is 50% off holiday stuff - I found a bunch of Target Practice Polypags, and bought a few of the Harry Potter polybags as well. Very happy with that.
  • kkskks Member Posts: 60
I just got back, only decent deal was Imperial Flagship at 30% off. The store manager let me look at his list, not much exciting. I was hoping for a discount on MMV or Diagon Alley. The funny thing is they has Ramses Pyramid and it was priced at 23.98, even the manager was perplexed on that one when before the sale it was 9.99
  • achillespdxachillespdx Member Posts: 106
Are the in-store prices on the bakery and post office the same as online?
  • madforLEGOmadforLEGO Member Posts: 10,788
    ^---They are supposed to be.

I am debating whether or not to go up to my local LEGO store tonight to try to pick a few up, especially the Toy Shoppes
But Im guessing the Bakery will be back next season (and I already picked up a couple over the spring/summer at a LEGO store when they were 39 bucks in the last clearance) Same with the Post office and now it sounds like LEGO changed the design of the Set without changing the box art for the Toy Shoppes, so not really sure it is worth a trip...

Well, it turns out I couldn't help myself...

I posted on the other thread about my stop at my local Lego store this morning, well this afternoon I went to the other one we have in town (yes, we're blessed with two).

Boy was that a madhouse, almost worse than the first, packed with parents and a TON of kids. Of course right now the kids are all out of school so where to take them but the mall! :)

Found a Public Transport that was a return, go figure, it had been there for maybe 30 minutes, picked that up along with another HP set (Hogwarts). They did have a ton of brick grab bags, but they looked like stuff from the pick-a-brick wall, and they were not very full, so I passed on those. Did return a few extra items that I don't think will sell well, so walked out with a $400 Gift Card.

No worries, I'll spend that in about 5 minutes next visit.

What was MORE interesting is that the manager there had a different take on DS. Both stores are sold out of DS, one said they were getting them back in, the other said it was gone and to call the Houston store as they still had some left and would ship it to me.

I get the feeling it isn't going away tomorrow, but it won't be here for next Christmas either. Does anyone feel good about a March to May timeframe for it going away? That is what the Falcon did back in 2010, isn't it? Sometime there the stores just stopped getting them then it just quietly disappeared from the web site and that was that.

^ That fits with a "May the Fourth" promotion...

LegoFantexas were you in the Northpark Store looking for Mindstorm stuff this morning?
  • CoolsplashCoolsplash Member Posts: 935
Anyone from the US who will be able to help me out getting stuff and shipping it off to me? Maybe spread the lego love? I do have someone in the US but the guy takes ages to respond to emails or to get into action if you know what I mean and too many times I loose good deals and its funny as I'm the one who mostly informs him about deals. Help needed!

I missed the last WV Toy Shop, did anyone pick up an extra they would like to sell? I am in California and have paypal ready. Thanks guys!

My local Lego store was pretty wiped and what they did have on sale was only 10% off. I filled up my holiday pick a brick box. Man was it heavy! I took the time to put the pieces together and fill every nook and cranny!
  • LegoFanTexasLegoFanTexas Member Posts: 8,404
LegoFantexas were you in the Northpark Store looking for Mindstorm stuff this morning?
Nope... I was in the Northpark Store this afternoon around 3pm returning a few items and I picked up a Public Transport and a Harry Potter set... I was in the Frisco store this morning.
  • sidersddsidersdd Member Posts: 2,432
Just a bump, and friendly reminder to check your LEGO stores for returns. I picked up an 8404 Public Transport today at the Indianapolis store for $69.98.

I ran out to my local Walmart the day after Xmas all starry eyed and waving around my debit card ... and got precisely nothing. :( The only thing I did find was a Slave I and I danced right down the isle with it and scanned it on the price checker and ... not on sale. Ratzel fratzel dag nabbit Yosemite Sam tantrum!

My town is not so great for Lego sales. I can walk two blocks and get to a local store that sells Lego (danger!), but nothing is ever on sale, ever. Another awesome local toy store also within walking distance, but overpriced. No Toys R Us or Lego store nearby. :(

I am super excited for the new Vancouver BC store. OpenOpenOpen!

Ditto on the returns at Lego stores, picked up one each of Container Truck, Public Transport, City Corner, and Imperial Flagship in the last few days, all returns, all on sale.
  • legoDadlegoDad Member Posts: 529
I pretty much got all my big sale items (more than 50% off) from Target.com 2 weeks or so before Xmas. Great bargains they had. I loaded up.
The only thing I got for extra parts for my bin was the Magma Madness game going for only $3.48 per kit. Grabbed a bunch.
