^ That's a large change from when I was buying bulk lots. Still, I don't think the figs are worth the $300 he wants for them, not even close.
  • matticus_bricksmatticus_bricks Member Posts: 651
^You're absolutely right about his price for the figs. Sure, he has a bunch of sought-after spacemen and castle figs, but not $300 worth. But considering that you would probably have to pay at least $60 total to get that trans-yellow dome and the three crater baseplates elsewhere, I think that justifies the price of the parts lot. Oh well, I'll post my results once I finish working on it.

I was at a TRU tonight. They had the largest Jurassic World set, the one with Dr. Wu, "as-is" for 50% off at $69.90. The box was taped closed. It felt really full and heavy. Debating on going back for it. Should I?
  • novicebuilder101novicebuilder101 Member Posts: 130
Will they let you inspect the contents before buying? I once bought a advanced tie fighter set from Kmart and it was taped shut with a random bootleg set inside. Luckily they let me return it.
  • Russell844Russell844 Member Posts: 2,482
I doubt it. It has a big red as-is sticker on the front with the price on it.
  • novicebuilder101novicebuilder101 Member Posts: 130
Hmm, buy it and inspect it in front of the customer service desk. If it's full of junk, you can raise a stink and they would probably let you exchange it.

As for what I would personally do, I'd bring along my postage/food scale and weigh the box. You could look up the weight on Amazon.

^ Not a bad idea! Mind you 500g of LEGO does weigh the same as 500g of dog kibble...

Hah I'm picturing the crook now rubbing his chin a la Indiana Jones. Grabbing a small handful of kibble and tossing it aside before taping shut the Lego box.

Was at Wal-Mart and saw a cart full of Lego.  All the boxes were covered in heavy dust.  I was able to find Star Wars Rancor and Millenium Falcon for 40 each.  I could only take once since I did have to buy groceries.  I purchased the Falcon.  I have to go back and see if they have anything else left.

Yesterday I managed to pick up the following:-

#4726 Quidditch Practice - 95% complete with instructions, no box

#4714 Gringotts Bank - 90% complete with instructions, no box

#4707 Hagrids Hut - 95% complete with instructions, no box

#4768 Durmstrang Ship- 100% complete, no instructions or box

The incomplete sets are missing only minor bricks, the #4768 Durmstrang ship parts are in mint condition, looks like it has only been built once and has a set of printed instruction with it.

There was also a small amount of spare parts & mini-figs included as well.

    Paid £60 in total

I went to the same place where I got the above "haul" last Saturday and came a way with this "haul of just over 7kg of Harry Potter spares.

    I have identified parts from the following sets:- #4701 #4702 #4704 #4705 #4706 #4709 x2 #4728 #4731 #4721 #4722 #4723 #4752 4762 #4733 #4756 #4750

none of them are complete, there are a few mini-figs & parts.

Looks like I will be spending a while completing the sets.

I paid £60 again for all these parts :)

$15 Minifig haul on shopgoodwill.com. I would be thrilled to have gotten Samwise at that price, let alone about 40 other minifigures.

@matticus_bricks I did not realize Samwise was worth that much. Cheapest US copy on Bricklink is $35.95!

It snuck up on me too! Not too long ago, the value was around $20, and I kept putting off getting one until the price started to soar. When I saw him in this lot, I jumped at the opportunity. But I wouldn't be surprised if more turn up in the coming years as kids start to sell their childhood Lego.

@Roberto_R, 6970, a great set. It was one of the first big space sets I got, like all my old sets, its currently dismantled for cleaning.

VorpalRyu i should do the same with mines (cleaning), but I like to see them displayed, from time to time I dismantle one, wash it then mount it again... but there are too much!

These ones are the firsts that I buy used, all my classic space collection sets were given to me as a gift when I was a kid: those ones were packed in boxes for almost 10 years, and I haven't finished mounting everything (fun with the kids now  ).
  • VorpalRyuVorpalRyu Member Posts: 2,318
@Roberto_R, all my sets were in storage at our family's workshop for something like the last 15-20 years, after some arguments with my parents, I finally got the ok to repossess them recently. Having children is great ammunition in those situations...

I had most of the old stuff cleaned, but with the school holidays comes extra kids & so all that work got undone, so clean, clean again... :(

Earlier today, I picked up a #6086 Black Knights Dungeon Master's Castle for $60. Came with box and instructions. Parts were nicely bagged and I spent an hour or so putting it together.

Which is madness when you can buy the entire set on bricklink for only slightly more.

Not terribly exciting but found a Microfighter Star Destroyer at Kroger for $5.99. They were clearing out those as well as some small Creator sets. Thought I would share in case anyone else might want to check their store

I found this little lot stuffed in a money bag in a local charity shop. I nearly passed on it seeing the monster things, then I noticed the bunny head, so not bad for £5!

I wanted to post a picture, but for some reason, I can't see the buttons to attach images or other HTML formatting from my mobile phone, so I suppose text will have to suffice for now. I came across a remarkable find on eBay earlier this month. It was basically a complete 9V train layout, but still MISB from 1992! Included was the 4564 Load N Haul Railroad, the 4554 Metro Station, a set of the switching rails (points), two of the 8-piece straight rail sets, two of the 8-piece curve rail sets, and finally, the coup d'grace, the 4558 Metroliner! Pictures of the boxes were all I had to go on, and they (for the most part) looked to be in cruddy shape. Only the accessory rail boxes and the Metroliner box (thank goodness!!) were in great condition. However, I was willing to take a gamble. The asking price was high, but I always wanted a Lego Train from the 9V years, and my Emerald Night needed some proper track!

I actually made the seller some lower offers, and eventually, I managed to make a deal with her for lower than the listed price. Anxiously, I awaited the arrival. Sure enough, I opened the large box to find all the sets still sealed (the points were opened, but the track inside was clearly unused; 4563 had a broken seal, too) and in the crap condition that I expected them to be in. However, that was only on the outside. Inside, all the bags and pieces were in immaculate, sealed shape. The instructions and 1992 set catalogs were as smooth and shiny as the day they were printed. Truly, it was worth the price, and I have suddenly burst onto the 9V scene a decade too late, but in this condition, the motors, track, and regulator will last me a long time.

So far, I've only built the diesel from Load N Haul Railroad for testing purposes. I'm saving the Metroliner for a special building occasion. My plan is to take that diesel's 9V motor and find a way to convert the Emerald Night to 9V without resorting to the conventional "stick it under the tender" approach.

Just bought #6441 and #6520 on the local ads, some missing pieces that can easily be found in BL!

Seller also has 6454 but the astronaut and the lower half of the meteor are missing, not sure if I'll go for it.

Just snagged the Unitron Monorail Transport base off eBay. $175, but considering they go for typically double that, I'm overall pleased. Only missing a handful of easily-replicable pieces. Motor is in good shape, all track is present and accounted for. Now that begs the question: do I rebuild the set as original, or stick with my plan and simply use the pieces for the monorail I'm building in my Lego cit?

I got all of these for $20 at a flea market. All of the gold on the classic space logos are near mint! I bought it from this older guy who had boxes of Lego he was sifting through to pull out the cool stuff (a lot of old space) and he had a bin filled with individually bagged minifigs with prices and he let me pick stuff out of a tray: I parted together the black spaceman this way. He had $12 on the blue spaceman alone and $3-4 on the other minifigs but he was very nice and said I could have all of this for $20 so I was very happy! He also complemented by Benny the Spaceman T-shirt. :)

The green forestman to the right on the lower row - where is he from? What a great looking guy! :)
  • matticus_bricksmatticus_bricks Member Posts: 651
@Duchessa The torso and legs are from the Actor CMF (I can't remember which series he was from off the top of my head) and the head and helmet are from various Castle minifigs in the 90's. I think the body would function well for a forestman though!
  • DuchessaDuchessa Member Posts: 287
@matticus_bricks Thanks! I'll check the CMF-series. Could use one or two of those for a MOC :)

@Duchessa I can see a lot of MOC potential with them! They've become kind of expensive though. It also pairs well with the Shakespeare minifig from The Lego Movie.

Two weeks ago bought at a thrift shop a box with 9 kilograms of Lego and an almost complete #8674 :)

Now the hard job to build all the sets hidden in the lot.

I see these huge hauls of lego and think they must be stolen from somewhere and dumped in your Thrift shops by the crooks. :)
Anyone who bought these sets must know they are worth 10x what you paid for them?
Fair Ground Mixer alone would have cost more than $80.

Is lego just another tool for money laundering in the USA? :)
