I'd have no real interest in Chima, Ninjago, Hero Factory, Bionicle or Duplo. Altough Chima and Ninjago sets would be nice for their parts.

These are wonderful for play, but the builds as instructed in the sets are just not display objects. I don't know if they all make the $50 threshold, probably not for the smaller bucket.
Although I also wouldn't display any Chima, Disney, Elves, Juniors, Friends, Minecraft, Jurassic World, Ninjago, Pirates, Speed Champions, Turtles Lego Movie, or Ultra Agents sets. I'm not into them as display objects. I'm not saying I think they are bad sets, some are nice builds, but can nearly always be improved. And some are good parts packs.
Come to think of it, the only sets I currently have displayed exactly as lego specify to build are Ghostbusters and an X-wing. Everything else on display is modified in some way or MOC'ed.
The TIE Fighter - another boring big hunk of black plastic. Although it is definitely better designed than The Tumbler.
That's it. I'm happy to take any other sets, at least for parts. Out of curiosity, why don't you like the Ferris Wheel? It is just a beautiful and impressive display set. Nice parts selection and colors too! :)
76037 - Rhino & Sandman Super Villain Teamup. Overpriced lazy set with an odd mix of figures, Albeit with some nice prints on them, if it was half price then it might be a nice gift for the kids to do whatever with, but at £45 not a chance. I must say 76016 - Spider-Man helicopter thing almost took this slot, but as just bought it for half price of Amazon that felt a touch hypocritical, but it is a rubbish set, but my 4 year old will love it.
75917 - Raptor Rampage. Again, another overpriced set (an issue with all Jurrasic world sets). The vehicle design is clunky and while limited by the source material this one seems to be poor value for money when the big draw is are two mini figs and two dino's. At half price this would be fine.
Minecraft.... Granted I just don't get the theme, it seems somewhat meta to me, Lego selling wannabe be within itself, but the worst of the line seems to be 21116 - Crafting Box. This just seems to be a pile of mostly standard small bricks with a few unique prints and a whopping £50 tag. Just go to a PAB wall and get the same sort of parts for £11....
^ must admit I don't really understand the hype for lego minecraft. legos models are getting more and more detailled, and minecraft sets are just very blocky models with very basic looking figs, only thing worth it are accessories and printed bricks exclusive to the theme.
mister gold and tatooine mini build. terribly expensive. probably the same for most stuffs you can only get at specific events. it's not even like they look particularly cool (mister gold and tatooine).
Anyway I personally wouldn't have any ninjago,or Chima sets, I don't know enough about either series to warrant buying them and I don't MOC enough to buy for parts.

Spider-man vs. Sandman & Rhino
#7190 - brought during the dark ages (almost a mid life crisis :)) but its a mess of colours, could easily have been a lot better with a few minor changes and is difficult to make decent alternate builds from
#918 - reminds me of how much I wanted #924 or #928 as a kid. Plus I've lost the trans gold windscreen piece.....
#332 - from parts I've found, I've inherited this, but don't have all the pieces for it :(
There's not a lot of sets I'd outright avoid (given unlimited funds), but looking for ones I wouldn't have built widened the net somewhat.
#21117, the Ender Dragon - I play Minecraft solely to build and tinker (never even been to the End), so there's no affection by association; lacking that, it just looks to me like an unattractive, half-hearted build. (I do very much like the house and farm sets, which are on my shelves, so it's not just the Minecraft design style.)
#21022, Lincoln Memorial - Architecture as a whole really surprised me with how enjoyable the builds have been, but this one I've looked at in stores and walked away from several times. It's just... dull. Fair's fair it's not unsightly - if it dropped on my front doorstep, I'd build it and put it with the other buildings without minding - but I'm not buying it, so it's a moot point. (Now, if it came with chrome parts to replace the regular statue with Megatron, we'd be in business.)
#76037, Rhino and Sandman - mostly I find a spot on the shelves to tuck in the playset-oriented sets (Knowhere and so forth) among the more impressive buildings and vehicles, but I think this one's going to just get dismantled after the obligatory build. Maybe I'll keep the crane as background for the Marvel New York shelf, but the rest of the building site, no - I'll just have a little sand pedestal/lower body build to make Sandman a little impressive, and see what I can do to bulk up Rhino a bit, and leave the rest in a storage bin.
#79018, the Lonely Mountain - First of all, it's absolutely overpriced. Next to that, the building doesn't look anything like the movies, it's a weird colourscheme and it feels just wrong. (and also: what's up with that transparent green axe?)
#76042, Shield Helicarrier - As a super heroes fan, I was kinda disappointed with the Helicarrier. I think the creators did a good job, but maybe I expected too much. If someone would offer it to me, I would gladly accept it though, but I would never buy it for that price.
If I had to pick my least favourite superheroes set, it would be the Rhino and Sandman, tbh.
For Star Wars set, there are two (kinda) recent sets that have bothered me:
#75018, JEK-14's Stealth Starfighter - and #75051, Jedi Scout Fighter - Both vehicles are just horrible looking and badly designed. (The JSC contains the only Ithorian minifig, so I wouldn't really mind getting this one for a VERY low price.)
Does anyone agree?
#21117, the Ender Dragon - I play Minecraft solely to build and tinker (never even been to the End), so there's no affection by association; lacking that, it just looks to me like an unattractive, half-hearted build. (I do very much like the house and farm sets, which are on my shelves, so it's not just the Minecraft design style.)
I absolutely love this set and I don't even play mindcraft. Keep trying to make excuses to buy one but I just cant justify it (yet). Almost no one seems to like it because I see this set on sale every time. It gets cheaper by the day and cheapest official store now has it for 59 euro.
To me this set visualizes the end,a bare wasteland with some weird pillars. creepy and weird guys and a dragon. I don't know what it is with this set but it keeps fascinating me .Seacow is another favorit set of me,wil pick up the one I bought tomorrow and I can not wait.
Sets I do not want in my collection:
-the 10118 deathstar. It just looks horrible to me,a bit like a doll house in the shape of a ball (the other deathstar is awesome btw)
-mini cooper. Everything that went right with the vw van went wrong with the cooper, though it might be the same guy who designed it. Not sure what it is with this model but it just does not look right.
-Any super heroes set. Nope,I have nothing at all with this theme.
-anything bionicle, should not even have to be mentioned as this is not lego, not even close:(
Our household does have Friends in it from my daughter, but I don't consider those "in my built collection" so I'd say friends and elves.
-Bioncles
-Friends
-Elves
Not sets, but themes...
Friends was a theme I also didn't want anything to do with, till I saw this set.
hearthlake balloon 41097. This I find a very cute set and will most likely buy it. Ditch the minifigures and use the balloon with regular lego minifigs. To bad the purple isn't a slightly different colour and the balloon could be slightly bigger but I think it would still work in a minifig scale setting. Its the only lego balloon we have atm. Hoping for a steam punk zeppelin in the next lego movie but till then this will have to do for me.
Maybe one day I will find a bionicle set that I like, though my hopes for that are slim.
