What would be/is your Jewel in the crown

Being freshly out of the Dark ages I don't have most of the fantastic sets you all have although I do have the Town Hall which myself, wife and daughter built together so that one is special to me. However my Crown Jewel is my humble little 75030 as this is the christmas stocking filler I got that started it all off........again :)

I'd have to say it's all of the sets in the Paradisa theme MISB. As for 1 set in particular, I'll go with the Galaxy Explorer 497/928. It was tough not picking a Pirate set though as it's def my favorite theme as a whole.

^I have to agree, the last set I ever part with will probably be 497 Galaxy Explorer. 10179 and all the modulars are very cool and worth a lot more money, but it's hard to top your first LEGO love...

I look very fondly on lots of sets for various reasons, but the real jewel for me is #10188, the Death Star playset version. I'm more a Trekkie but I love the OT, and that set has basically every significant scene on the Death Star all in one package - I moved an open-backed shelf out perpendicular to the wall just so I could have it visible from the full 360 degrees, because there's not a single room in it that I can't look at and think "Yeah, that was cool." Great minifig assortment too - I've added a few more (filling up the conference table, for instance, with Vader choking Motti while the others watch and Tarkin scowls at him), but for the most part it came with everyone needed to fully populate the set. Not a cheap set, but worth every cent.

Probably the ECTO-1 for me... may not be rare or expensive, but that car holds such a prized place in my childhood, and the Lego version just looks amazing!

It is a tough call but I think for me it is between the Fire Brigade and Town Hall and Parisian Restaurant. The PR because when the pictures of it leaked I finally succumbed to modular fever which was just in time for me to buy FB before it discontinued. TH is also on the list just because I got it right before it expired and left my ability to afford it. So I guess that one is probably tops because I could never buy TH at today's prices so I am thankful to have it on my modular street.

Of the 1000+ plus sets, it's without a doubt set #393. I picked this MISB set about 17 years ago. It reminds me of and brings back those great memories of my father taking me for a ride on his Norton when I was a child.

I have a few that share the title for my favourite:
- Complete set of modulars
- Complete set of Discovery sets from 2003!
- All of the "Factory" sets

However, if I had to choose one "jewel", it would be the Nesquik Bunny, definitely.

Having got into Modulars a bit late, would love to have got Cafe Corner, but have got Fire Brigade & Town Hall which form the centre piece of my display. But perhaps my favourite sets of all like 1265 are the Hobby sets from 1975-76. Rebuilt #390 and #395 and one day will get #396 up and running again.

For me, the answer is easy: my #10189 Taj Mahal (MISB). The set is special to me because I am of Indian ancestry and it is one of the first sets that got me into being a LEGO fan/collector. I intended on building the set when I bought it but had no room in my apartment to display it, so I let it sit in its box. Now I'm fighting the "it's worth $XXX so I would be crazy to open it but I only paid $ZZZ for it, so what difference does it make because I don't plan on selling it" battle.

(The other two sets that were my "first" sets were #7199 because of its ties to India and also #10187 because it was the first car my dad owned when he came to this country)

Taj mahal is most likely my next project, as I too am of Indian origin and def want to give it to my parents so that they can display it in their house.

Showed my mom pics of it, and it was game over. She was like stop building sw sets haha.

The Black Falcon's Fortress (6074) is my crown jewel.

Yes, I know that it is not an expensive set - nor does it command that much on the markets as TLG re-released it as 10039 a while back - but for me it was the one that I drooled over as a kid and now own.

If I ever get a hold of a Skulls Eye Schooner - this will change...

I wonder why nostalgia is such a big factor.

well, my sets were most of the time broken for my mocs, so I think I may have better memory of the minifigs. I remember I loved the original darth maul, but lego has done much better since then.

For me there is no one crown jewel, there are some fantastic display pieces, most of which I am lucky enough to own but it would be the ability to display them together as a collective that would me the magic thing for me, (something I can't do right now).

That said if I had to pick just one it would be the UC Falcon, it is just perfect. That would be closely followed by Mr Gold, he is the only CMF my daughter doesn't have and it awesome to see him in the set.

Mine would have to be 6973 - Deep Freeze Defender. Got it for christmas from my parents and I still have all the pieces. So much fun building that set, and it was my biggest set at the time.

Close second is 10224 - Town Hall. My favourite modular, my favourite modern set and I think I have built this one 4 times...

Mine is #21104 Curiosity Rover. Partly because I helped design the real rover and partly because I also designed the LEGO set, a rare opportunity that I'm very grateful to have had the priviledge to experience.

Aside from that, I guess it would have to be #10029 Lunar Lander. I also own all the sets from the excellent Discovery theme from 2003, and that's the only set that I have been able to keep on display and resist tearing down for parts.

As for other jewels, I really want to have a Galaxy Explorer someday (and a Deep Freeze Defender).

To choose one it would be #10194 Emerald Night I think. It's difficult to choose but if I imagine some kind of disaster that would require to leave all my lego behind save a single set, I think this is the one I'd like to keep.

Other than extreme circumstances I don't see myself parting with some of my other favourites, such as

#7471 Mars Exploration Rover

#10228 Haunted House

#4195 Queen Anne's Revenge

#21108 Ghostbusters
#10181 Eiffel Tower
#10226 Sopwith Camel

and also none of the LOTR/Hobbit, HP, and Avengers minifigures.

Hm, I don't know if I have a current "jewel in the crown". As a kid, there were always a few sets which I would have considered for that title, such as my (re-release) #10039 Black Falcon's Castle and #5987 Dino Research Compound.

They're still good sets (particularly the castle), but I'm not sure I'd say they'd count as jewels in my crown...I have one or two semi exclusives, like the white classic space man from last year which is one of the few things I actually display in my room at university, so I think that kinda counts.

As for one that would be a potential centrepiece, it would have to be #8880. I would love one of those if I could find it for around £60 or so.

#10188 is my favourite set too, I have mine 90% built (but you'll still find it's quite operational...). Would love to see a picture of your display for it, it sounds great and I need some ideas for the new extension I just built in my house. My other prized set is my motorised AT-AT #10178, love it.

For me it would be my Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen's business card mini fig given to me by the man himself late last year at Brick 2014.

He now has various cameo roles in whatever I have on display, (he's currently shopping at the Grand Emporium).

In terms of what I would like to add to my collection it would be the SDCC SH exclusives that I don't have and Mr Gold. I would never buy Mr Gold at current prices, but still hold out hope of coming across him in some back water toy shop for RRP, (yeah right!?).

It has to be my ucs super star destroyer. Its my most expensive set.

Its not my favorit set btw,that would be maybe the vw van. If I want show a non lego building friend something from lego I always show them the van and everyone loves it,its just so well designed and the object (the vw van) appeals to almost everyone.

If I could only have 1 lego model and get rid of everything else then I would probably keep the vw van most likely,though the ghost busters lego ideas set would make it a difficult choise , and i basicly don't even like cars. Its just based on the quality of the design and how much the theme is appealing for me.

I've been having a really hard time answering this question. I've got a number of rare or difficult to find sets. For the right price I'd part with most of them as I don't have a deep emotional bond to them. So to answer this I'll exclude items from my non-brick collection as most people wouldn't care about these items to begin with.

I have a number of rare or hard to find items that might be consisted "jewels" but maybe not "crown jewels." These include, Esso oil cans, Esso gas pumps, marbled bricks, Sears and JC Penney's catalog sets, 6270 Forbidden Island with a US shooting cannon, 6086 with Dungeon Master's Castle box, 1271 and 271 Police sets, and 309 Church.

My most valuable set is 10182 Cafe Corner. Followed by the 852293 Giant Chess set and 10185 Green Grocer.

I think my top five sets that I would be loth to part with are 6285 Black Seas Barracuda, 6270 Forbidden Island, 6085 Black Monarch's Castle, 6054 Forestmen's Hideout and 6075 Yellow Castle. Only the Yellow Castle isn't originally mine. The other four are all childhood favorites.

My holy grail set would a 700/1 in wooden box from 1949. I know I have next to hope of every owning one of these, they are simply too rare and would cost too much. But I can always dream.

My personal favorite would be my Lunar Lander. Been wanting it since 2003 and finally got it in April. Dealing with the seller I got it from was problematic but all in all I was glad I finally got my hands on it. And for 150 $ I got it for a steal compared to the usual prices. Runner up for my favorite would be my motorized walking AT-AT, a really great technic/Star Wars build. Also very fun to play with. The final two runner ups would by my Tower of Orthanc and my Sopwith Camel.

@Jarakin, it's nothing fancy, just an Ikea Vittsjo shelf unit sticking out sideways into the room instead of flat against a wall. Had to remove the topmost dish and a layer or two of flat bricks to fit it in the first-from-top shelf, so it's at eye level - top shelf is too high to see every deck properly if I'd put the Death Star up there. (I use it for tall ships, they look fine from a low angle.)

From a financial point I guess it's my used #10210 Imperial Flagship or my NIB HH (according to brickpicker).

From a personal and more nostalgic perspective id have to say my BSB or SES at this point.
