You have a $750 Lego gift card....

ryjayryjay Member Posts: 1,001
...to spend at the lego store on-line or at any of their mall stores.   Shipping is free, and ignore taxes....it expires at the end of this month, how would you spend it?

In Great Britain, I think that is around 475 gbp...yes?

I would probably get atleast one coffee cup.

It's licensed merchandise, but not Lego... strictly speaking.

    $200 Ferris wheel
    $160 Parisian

if if this was a random gift card that someone gave me, then I think I would be hard pressed not to use the rest to grab the Death Star for my son and add in the extra $10.

If this was my money on the gift card, then the remainder money would go to deciding between
    Ewok village
    Scooby castle
    The other large Scooby set
    new minecraft sets
The large Ninjago set theat is supposedly coming out

Modulars and a train of some kind.....I only have one and best case scenario I can only get one modular a year.....I so want a city to build......a train is one that set that I would love to get too. Maybe set it up around the Christmas Tree (My wife, "Where would the presents go?")

Helicarrier and the Death Star. Or approximately 1500 pick a bricks. Give or take.

    Ferris wheel $200
    Kwik-e-mart $200
    Changing Seasons $50
    Toy & Grocery Shop $40
    Beach Hut $30
    Total $520

Then I'd be nice and get a Slave 1 for the hubby, that leaves $30 for the kids to each pick something small.

Or I'd get another Ferris Wheel for my daughter.

It's a little frightening that there aren't more big sets that I/we want that we don't already have... Christmas was good this year.

Any starwars lego sets from episodes 4,5 or 6. Anything else is just a kids toy :)

Not if you buy one, dump it in a bag, reuse the container to buy another lot and repeat.

I would probably go with a Sand Crawler and maybe a Helicarrier. Then I would wonder why I only had $100 left and start to consider how much I really do spend on Lego

Definitely the Slave 1. Then probably all of the Marvel and DC superhero sets I don't have. Not the Helicarrier though. It doesn't really impress me.
  • FauchFauch Member Posts: 2,679

probably ewok village, metalbeard's sea cow and the detective office

After putting some thought into this, I believe my purchases would be The Simpsons House, the Kwik-E-Mart, the Tumbler, and then throw in the extra $10 for the Detective's Office.

Although that would amount to $45.60 in sales tax for me on top of the $760.

If this was a gift card with that was given to me and I had zero attachment to it I would blow it all on city sets - the one theme id like to have a bunch of but don't want to even enter those waters under the current circumstances.

    Option 1:

I would sell the $750 gift card to one of you for $700 in cash.  I need Transformers money right now, man! The new Combiner Wars line is eating away at my Lego budget.

    Option 2:

    1x: Pet Shop
    1x: Detective's Office
    1x: Kwik-E-Mart
    1x: Changing Seasons

I would save the remaining $191 for the 2015 Death Star Final Duel and Episode 7 potentials.

TRU had a 2 for $5 sale a few weeks ago and all they had were hot dog guys it seemed. I got three!

    Back to thread discussion...

    Helecarrier
    Slave 1
    City Modular set
  • TarDomoTarDomo Member Posts: 515

I ´d start with buying UCS TIE Fighter.

  • chuxtoyboxchuxtoybox Member Posts: 711
I'd also buy the Death Star Final Duel because I don't currently have a Darth Vader and that set seems like a good place to start collecting LEGO SW. Again.

I'd wait until Q3 and get:

    42043: Mercedes Benz Arocs 3245
    42040:  Fire Plane
    60092:  Deep Sea Submarine
    60095:  Deep Sea Exploration Vessel
    60098:  Heavy Haul Train

    plus

    42042:  Crawler Crane

if there was anything left over.

I can't spend it on BrickLink?! Useless!

(Well, I suppose the "sell to another Brickset user" option from above appeals.)

That said, if I had to choose currently in-production sets... Yeah, I think I could. I would get some Elves sets (cool parts and colors, especially Farran and the Crystal Hollow), I would get MetalBeard's Sea Cow, because wow, that's a pirate ship, I would get Benny's Spaceship, MetalBeard's duel, and... Hmm. Hard to say. Probably a bunch of assorted Chima and/or Ninjago. If I didn't already have the current pirates wave, I'd surely get that. What can I say; I'm still five at heart. Pirates and ninjas are clearly the way to go.

I mean, the smartest thing to do would be to use that money to purchase a new gift card that wouldn't expire, since that would give me more options going forward. But that's not really in the spirit of the question, is it? So if we stay true to the "end of this month deadline" the question becomes a lot trickier. Most of the things on my wish list are things that are not available yet. I'm not really knowledgeable about or interested in reselling, so which sets would fetch the highest aftermarket prices doesn't really pertain to me. I'm also not an army builder, so it doesn't really interest me to buy lots of duplicate sets for personal use.

The only thing I can really think of doing is buying sets from themes like Legends of Chima and Ultra Agents that I haven't really been committed to collecting, but have enjoyed on the side.
  • chuxtoyboxchuxtoybox Member Posts: 711
I wish I'd had that gift card when the last Hogwart's and Diagon Alley were first released.

    Thanks everyone for your responses.

I was a little surprised, however, no one mention buying legos for charity or to give away.   I don't build a lot of legos, but I do give a lot away.

    SHIELD Helicarrier, no question.

Well, if it would make you feel better to give to charity......just PM me and I'll give you my address to send the gift to.

The charity suggestion has to be directed to someone in a marketplace thread, especially if that marketplace thread belongs to a known reseller. That way we can bicker and argue.

Realize that when I read something like this, it's usually in my spam folder and a scam.

However, if I actually had one in hand, I'd buy the Volvo loader, mobile crane, and the heavy duty wrecker, then save the rest for upcoming sets I'd want to have, like the Arocs.
