Hopefully the Electro poly turns out like the rocket one...was rare at first but then for about 2-3 months there was a giant pile of them at my store.

i have been so fustrated with TRU for months now, so bad that I called the headquarters in wayne,nj. they have had electro sitting in their DC for over a month now !! wont sell it or ship it yet !!!!
Sounds like they're going to use it as a promotion and not sell it individually until after the promo is over.

Doesn't it sound reasonable that they're holding them for the June 2015 Batman: Arkham Knight game release? Or Lego Dimensions in Sept.?

Most TRU promotions are 'if you buy x dollars of LEGO you can get the poly for free', but it is not that 'you get the poly if you buy X'. It sounds the same but there is a difference. The first means that typical they are for purchase but if you buy x amount of LEGO you can pick one up for free.

The TRUs near me have not held them typically for a promotion, and they should put them on the shelf for all to buy, but that is a YMMV situation though as many store managers decided to limit the number purchased or kept them behind the counter to stop those from coming in and buying all of their allotment.

Im sure they are and maybe not because they are in stores, but those who are trying to find someone desperate enough (and without the knowledge of this release) to buy theirs for hefty sum before people start seeing them for 3.99-4.99 USD.

@madforLEGO, one can hope, spoke to one of the staff at TRU here, we were meant to be getting them in Sept last year, for some reason head office in Australia put Electro on hold for now, along with #30304 & #30305. Wondering if the reason for the hold is the same.

If the reason for delay is to distance the character as much as possible from the terrible movie that was ASM2, I can see that logic :)

According to the TRU website, the Chima Ice Bear Mech #30256 and the TIE Advanced Prototype #30275 are available for in store pickup in "5-10 days".  Good for those who were unable to find the Ice Bear Mech at Target.  The latter appears to be a May the 4th promotion.  Both can be added to your cart!

That bear mech thing has been at my local TRU forever
They have a display stand/box for Polys and every time I've gone in the last 6 months (maybe longer) that's all they've had

Picked two Electro up from the local Toys R us!  also see the simpons Series 2 , but in a hurry!!  so didn't check it out
  • dannyrwwdannyrww Member Posts: 1,394
Went to get a hulk buster set at Toys R Us...They were all out but still had a place on the shelf for them. Went to get someone to check if they had any, and by the time I got back the tag was replaced with a tag for the Electro figures and a box full of them (not usually how I see poly bags displayed though). Seems they are becoming common all over.

Gotta check the front desk. The TRU I went to said the same but they were all put up at the front desk for some reason (likely becasue they have no 'hook holders' for the displays in the bag)
  • Thanos75Thanos75 Member Posts: 1,120
Good point. It happened like this during the whole Rocket Raccoon craze. They said they couldn't find them but when I made another pass there they were still in the shipping box just sitting on the shelf.

Can you purchase items(specifically the Electro poly) from TRU by calling and ordering if it's not on their website?  My TRU closed in Jan so my only chance of getting polys anymore is Target...which they've cut down on.

Well the Electros were available on May 1st. So gotta think those dates are roughty 1 week behind the release date. Interesting though. Unless that is for online purchases?
  • VorpalRyuVorpalRyu Member Posts: 2,318
^ Just looking at the US site, 30275 comes up, but no options to purchase, similar to what happened with Electro late last year, just a place-holder currently.

^^ TRU has a history of several stores mistakenly putting out promotional polys early, where they are rapidly purchased and frequently gone before said promotion comes into effect.  Rocket Raccoon and the TMNT Mikey set come to mind as recent examples.

So I wonder if we will see a promotion in this week's TRU ad (which will start on 5/10)...
  • SolariousSolarious Member Posts: 317
I went to TRU yesterday and they didn't have any Polys- much less Electro
    Boo!

Not trying to sound snarky, but you did not say if you asked an employee.. Did you ask an employee if they have them? I only mention it, as above, because many times the TRU by me cannot find them until they ask all the store employees and find them at the front desk. These do not have a place on the package to hang on a hook, so they are either going to be in a cardboard bins of packages (some TRUs have these and pile all polys into them) and then there are those stores that put them behind the counter. There are also stores that get them later before a promotion (like noted above) and even still there are stores that appear to not sell polys at all (or have one guy or employee clear out the stock)

Well lets be clear. There may be promotions, but it does not mean TRU cannot sell these as a 'set'. If they have a price then they are available to be sold then they can be sold. Just because a promotion hits stores saying 'buy x amount of LEGO and get one of these for free', does not mean the bags are solely for a promotion. It is the same reason why they likely also add supplies are limited to each store. Now if stores want to really have them as part of promotions then they would not have any price in the system for them, they would simply say 'promo' or something like that.

This is totally not the direction I was going.  Since there is plenty of historical evidence of TRU stores putting out items "early" I believe it is faulty to conclude a "release date" is about a week before the reported "hold date" simply because this one item happened to be available in some stores.

The Electro's I picked up did in fact have a place on the package to hang them from a hook.  They each had a little plastic hook attached to them.

Yeah, I'm guessing that someone at a TRU is doing that, out of the box they are hook-less. So maybe that is why they wind up at CS desk, to add those things after the fact.

If TRU was not to sell the Electros on May 1st, they would have been told not to. From what I understand stores need to adhere to sell by date, which are usually input into computers. Now, maybe TRU is 'cowboying it' at their stores, but the main office could squash it simply by providing no price in the system as it is a 'promotional item' at least until this official date. But they do not, so TRUs are well within the right to sell them. They are a product in the system with a price.
So yeah, I see the argument that maybe they should not be put out 'early'  but that has to go more on to TRU HQ and not at the stores themselves if that date is a set in stone date.

So you do not know if the release date was May 1st or if TRU is cowboying it.  Therefore there are insufficient grounds to state that the release date is about one week in advance of the hold date.  That is my point.

I do not care who is right or wrong to buy or sell on May 1 or May 10.  There is no need to continue belaboring the one-sided discussion on that subject.

    @madforLEGO
I didn't ask an employee walking around the aisles or anything but I did ask at the counter when I was buying something else
The lady that I checked out with (at the CS desk none the less) had no idea
I've never actually seen them behind there though
They have a couple Lego cardboard boxes in the normal section they put the Polys in. Right next to the Creator stuff if you are interested
They were both completely empty- which is kind of surprising because for the last LONG time they were packed with the Chima bear mech things
  • matticus_bricksmatticus_bricks Member Posts: 651
They didn't have them at the CS desk at my TRU either. The woman working there said she couldn't find it in their system and hadn't heard about any upcoming release. In case I check back next week, is there any kind of item number I could give them to search up?

The Electro's I found on Monday (Oceangate TRU in Los Angeles) were in the normal Lego area and hung up on the pegs along with other polys, including a few Rocket Raccoons.

I was at the Schaumburg, IL store today.  They knew about the Electro poly, but only because one customer bought 50 of them the other day.  They had none left already.
