Lucky! I haven't seen those in stores for a long time, let alone ever seeing one on sale.

I have seen a few beat up boxes before, but they scan at full price and I can never find any employees to ask if they would mark it down due to damage.

I was surprised myself, as my Walmart never has anything good in the clearance aisle. This is the first time I've seen such a good deal there, and for a decent set, no less!

My Walmart usually doesn't have any good clearance either @Rolyat24 ;. But as of late I found a couple sets on good discount.

One WM had the Creative for $20. Scanned it with my WM app, and it came up with $30. WM employee scanned it and it came up $20.

Another WM not too far from it had the same item for $30. Scanner confirmed it too.
    Interesting...

Is that the creative box that they mismarked? There was an ad that showed the price and then they issued an apology saying it was meant for a different creative box.

I don't think it was "mismarked" because their system acknowledged the pricing!
  • Sethro3Sethro3 United StatesMember Posts: 819
Well maybe someone that does the inventory mismarked it and they later saw the mistake. Otherwise, why would they issue an apology saying it was wrong? (at least at my store anyway)
  • 1stflabuyer1stflabuyer Member Posts: 17
The apology was not that the wrong set (#10695) was listed in the Easter ad, instead it said that due to insufficient supplies (some stores received 0), Walmart was substituting the #10696 set for $20.
After the Easter ad finished on 4/5/15, walmart.com raised the #10695 set to $30 - some stores also raised it to $30 (the few that had any left). The #10696 set is now $29.99 online (store pricing varies).

that i had not seen before, we found,
    drop ship for $35
hobbit attack of the wargs $35
    milano spaceship for $35.

LOL. This brought up a memory. I remember going into a Walmart after Christmas 2006 with a Walmart gift card I got for Christmas, hoping to find Toa Inika Hahli... only to find... Toa Inika Jaller. One left. No other Bionicle or Lego Star Wars set in sight. So I took him. He was one of the ones I needed to complete my Bionicle Collecetion. And also, I think I had to dig for him.

Just was at my local Wal-Mart they had a large variety of sets on clearance some up to 50% off (chima lion thing) but I was able to pick up Star Wars Ghost for 60bucks (down from 90) looks like it might be time to keep eyes on your local stores as the prep for new sets :)
  • OUWxGuesserOUWxGuesser Member Posts: 92
The ghost is a tough one.  $64 locally and I still haven't bitten on it yet.   I love some of the other Rebel sets (AT-DP, Tie prototype, etc.) but I think it would have to hit $50 to get to my trigger.

It's definitely YMMV.  I finally stopped by my closest WM 8 miles away and there wasn't much on clearance and nothing tempting to buy (except the Star Wars Ghost).  But I was at another small town WM 30 miles away and almost every set was on clearance.  Many Friends/Disney sets, SH #76038 Attack on Avengers Tower for $45, Ant-Man for $15, SW Mos Eisley #75052 $49 and they had 5-6 of each.

Unfortunately both the Walmart app and Brick Seek don't appear to give accurate in store prices anymore, so there isn't anything to help figure out if the drive will be worthwhile...  :'(

I went in to my WalMart today to pick up Ghost and Phantom, and when I got to the register, they refused to sell me Phantom because it was on recall.  The cashier said it might be because it contains small parts...  :)

I saw the brand new 2015 Lego Star Wars Advent calendars in a WalMart store today in Florida. $39.92. No City or Friends calendars yet, though.

Anybody ever go online to walmart.com and then choose "Pickup In Store"? A lot of times the online price is discounted, sometimes really discounted, and they have the set in the store at full price. When you enter your zip code you can see if your local store has it in stock also. So just purchase online, and go pick it up! I got The Ghost for over $20 off. Imperial Shuttle is like $96 (reg. $130) right now I saw. Benny's Spaceship about $20 off, Mos Eisley Cantina too I think. Anyway, there are quite a few great finds there if you just get it online and go pick it up.

I've done that before.  A few years ago, I asked Walmart to price match their own price (online).  The manager said no.  So, I went home and bought it online for store pickup at a much lower price.  Other large stores (HD, Lowes, Best Buy) have the same prices online and in store, I wonder why Walmart does not.

Walmart always price matches their own website for me.If it's $5 or less difference the cashier can do it,over $5 and they must get a manager to OK it first but I have never been told NO.

Wonder what qualifies you for preferential treatment?
  • tamamahmtamamahm Member Posts: 1,950

Unless I am reading it wrong, there is no preferential treatment. This claims that they do price match to Walmart.com.
    http://corporate.walmart.com/policies/our-online-price-match-policy

I am pretty sure at one point in time they did not, so I am wondering if they changed their policy after Target began price matching in store purchases to target.com prices. The target change happened 1-2?? Years ago??

    ETA:

    It claims the following...
How to match an in-store purchase to an online price:

Request the price match right at the register
The Store Management has the final decision for matching an online price

I wonder if a store manager is just being a dufus and refusing, because it sounds like they are supposed to price match.
  • MugenPowerMugenPower Member Posts: 447
The one time I did in-store pickup at Walmart, they slapped a huge sticker on the item with my name and order info.  Luckily, it was just for a bottle of motor oil so I didn't really care but I imagine it would be a huge PITA to remove from a Lego box without damaging the artwork.  Not sure if they still do that or if that's the procedure across all stores.
  • RonyarRonyar Member Posts: 359
All stores.  I learned the hard way not to try and take them off by hand. A helpful tip from another Bricksetter was to use a hair dryer to heat the sticker and they peel off.  Occasionally they will leave a sticky residue, but no more torn boxes!
  • jaitheartistjaitheartist Member Posts: 30
Oh yikes, thankful mine have never been hit with stickers.

Target has different in store from on line pricing, too.  During their last clearance period, the in store clearance price on some items was still higher then the on line everyday price.

Just weeks ago a WMT in Florida refused to price-match their site. A Lego set I wanted was $10 less online, and they refused to match. Cashier said no, customer service rep said no, and finally, the Manager said "We don't do that."

As recently as July 15th, WMT was NOT price-matching. When Amazon did their Prime Day specials on July 15th, a WMT spokesman smarted off, with a dig at Amazon, saying "No admission fee! You shouldn't have to pay $100 to get great deals."

Not to be run over, Amazon replied (about WalMart) ""We've heard some retailers are charging higher prices for items in their physical stores than they than do for the same items online." I read this on the CNN Money site.

Walmart, Amazon, Target, and all the other are not on your side, never confuse that fact.
  • Sethro3Sethro3 United StatesMember Posts: 819
Every time I've picked up in store, they had a huge sticker on the box. I've since quit keeping the boxes, so I guess it doesn't matter in the long run.

Not sure if this has been covered. Picked up a Raptor Rampage today, and they asked me if I wanted the 2-year service warranty.

Maybe it is just an inattentive clerk not realizing that it is not electronic. Does this set have any electrical parts like batteries (Used in LEGO light brick for example) If not, it is a bit bizarre. Then again, I wonder if it is to try to account for any loss due to the scammer actions

No, it was an automatic pop-up. Really strange for a random regular set.

Buy it, then go in next year when the set MISB is triple its value and tell them yours is broken and you want a new one.  See what happens.

Here too!  I googled it because I'm still new to this and I was fairly sure that it was last years.  I saw that it is listed at $3.99 at TRU, asked the manager and they price matched from the web.  Now I wish I had bought more than one! Lol

All the Jurassic world sets are double in price at Walmart.com.  Sets have vanished from all the stores everywhere in the northwest.   What's going on here? They seemed over priced from the beginning and a slow sell.  Then gone?

I can sell you the same set that's exclusive to Wal-Mart on that market place. It's not Wal-Mart setting the price.

I noticed they had left shelves months ago.  I have a new WM that rarely discounts/clearances LEGO and they order a lot also.  For the first month Jurassic World sets were out this WM had a inbetween aisles square full of sets....20+ of WM exclusive set....so I thought there'd be no rush to buy one.  I stopped back 4 days later and the shelve was gone and asked what happened and the store employee said they were put in the back and weren't suppose to be put back on shelves until they're new toy dept. layout was done.  Well...they've never shown back on shelves.

I stopped by my local store last Wednesday and there wasn't a single JW set to be seen.  No empty spots with tags, nothing.  Sunday stopped in and four of the exclusive set magically appeared on a bottom shelf.  No idea what's going on.
