    Ull I think its disgraceful and bullying to pull someone up on their spelling ie collectible.Its an international site,if your claiming its totally British,keep it.
    heinz is a USA company,you still eat the beans.grow up you knew he meant collectibles collectables does it matter.

    If you care to actually read the posts, you'll see that an American was asking to change the spelling (in the brickset database) from the British spelling "collectables" to the American spelling "collectibles".

    Sure, if an American uses "collectibles", I know he means "collectables" in my language. But that has to go both ways, it is the British spelling in the database, and Americans have to deal with it. You should know that "collectables" in (British) English means "collectibles" in American English.

    Here are the relevant posts for you ...

    If we're being picky, Heinz should be capitalized, i.e. should have a period after each letter, it's is the proper contraction of it and is - twice, commas and periods should have (at least) one space after, interrogative sentences should end with a question mark, the first word in a sentence should be capitalized (capitalised?) and you're is the proper contraction of you and are.

    Funny enough, I totally can still read it, but it won't win any job interviews.  Also, who'd have thunk Heinz beans were so popular in the UK but not in the US?

    Wait, did Pitfall start this?

    Since LEGO refers to CMFs as Minifigures, I have absolutely no problem with this.

    But in the case of #60083 Snowplow Truck, the database lists it as Snowplough Truck. As best I can tell, LEGO uses "snowplow" on the UK sites, and the UK box doesn't use "snowplough" anywhere. In such cases, I think accuracy should trump regional spelling.

    ^ Yeah, I'd agree there. I'd go with LEGO's spelling.

    I was hoping that the tags feature would render a lot of the spelling issues redundant. If alternative spellings were allowed, then searches are easy and it does not matter which version of English is being used.

    Considering there are a couple of other threads about spelling & pronunciation already there seems little need to debate it here.
  • CCCCCC Member Posts: 20,559
    PS. Although LEGO just calls them Minifigures in the promotional materials, they do refer to them as collectible Minifigures in the series book - I presume with that spelling so they don't need to reprint for the UK market. Also note that they do not use "collectible minifigures" or "Collectible Minifigures", but "collectible Minifigures". Thus the collectible is not part of the name, but is describing the series.

    I still prefer CMF to all the above though.

    Yes, no doubt the US spend is bigger than the UK. But if you want to play the bigger is more important game, start learning Chinese now.

    I think that's going to depend a lot on exactly what the new Hoth set is based on - The only reason any of the Hoth sets particularly interested me were for the Tauntaun and Wampa figs.
  • RennyRenny Member Posts: 1,145
    With a new Hoth set coming out, maybe the demand for Hoth Han will go up. That is of course a new version is not included.

    My favorite (and I am not even being sarcastic) thing about this thread is how we go from discussing if minifigures belong in the conversation or not to arguing about beans and spelling. I always get a good laugh :D
    For me it is not the spelling that matters, it is being told it is disgraceful and bullying to say why something is in British English, when someone else asks for it to be changed to American English.

    And who is complaining about 1966 being still talked about (presumably referring the English World Cup victory)? Not the English members.

    I'll be very interested to see the new UCS Hoth set, assuming that it exists.  Unless it's £300+ I can't see it being that impressive.  I have a horrible suspicion that it will contain 15-20 minifigures and be of a similar style to 7879, but around 2,000 parts.  Time will tell, and I really hope that I'm wrong!

    I could do that, but I am looking for the exact retail price and I think there might be a unusual different since it's a "special" price. Your retail prices are like "I-did-sell-my-family-for-this"-sales to us, so the currency definitely won't match.

    At the risk of getting a virtual head-butt, TRU (at least our local shop) has Series 13 CMFs on sale for 2/$5...most likely to clearance them to make room for the next round of The Simpsons CMFs. Series 13 CMFs are now EOL'd at S@H (which is why I am posting this here).

    I started reminiscing when I saw the prices were below $3/each and it brought a tear to my eye. Unfortunately a TRU employee was nearby and promptly marked the price back up over retail just to make me quit crying. :wink:

    @NavyAsk for some reason, I can't find what the UCS MF's RRP was in Danish Krones. But do have it for most others if that helps in some small way:

    GBP = 342.99
    USD = 499.99
    CAN = 679.99
    AUS = 979.99
    NZD = 999.99
    SEK = 5,889

    A quick check of S@H shows there are several larger sets on the verge of going sometime this year:

    #10234 - Sydney Opera House
    #10236 - Ewok Village
    #10214 - Tower Bridge
    #10240 - Red Five X-Wing Starfighter
    #10237 - Tower of Orthanc
    #10218 - Pet Shop
    #10220 - VW Camper Van
    #71006 - The Simpsons House (expected ship date of September 1st)

    If I was guessing, I would say that seven of the eight sets listed above (including Simpsons House) will be gone by year's end and at least five will be gone by summer's end.

    I can kind of see Simpsons House becoming a bit of a Death Star - if they do want to keep the theme going the way they are it seems to make sense to have the house plus one other location on the shelves. Hard to say though, I know for a fact that it got a few non FOLs looking at Lego again, being the resident Lego guy in my network meant people asking me about it.

    Just curious, how did you come to the conclusions based on a look at S@H?
    I mean I know the Pet shop, VW Van, Tower Bridge are long in tooth, but is there something that appears on S@H (besides that silly 'retiring soon' tag) that is showing you these are going to be gone soon?

  • BrickarmorBrickarmor Member Posts: 1,258
    Ship date on #71006 is just nuts. I would chalk it up to a joke today had it not been showing that date for several days now.
  • BumblepantsBumblepants Member Posts: 7,730
    I wouldn't freak out about those ship dates too much. They are probably just in recovery mode from 2x VIP points orders and it will shake out in a few weeks. The September date for Simpsons house is a bit odd though. If that disappears when the Mart comes out it will skyrocket. Perhaps even higher than Town Hall did.

    No...nothing specific on S@H. As you said, these are all primarily long in the tooth or have other indications such as availability 6 months out (Simpsons House), etc..

    I can't image the SOH, or TB are selling that great based on their price and availability. With the recent or near-term releases of the UCS Slave 1 and UCS Tie Fighter sets, there are just too many UCS (or large SW Sets) available in general. Plus Red Five has hit the magic time period when UCS sets usually go. TLG is drawing down its Hobbit and LotR theme, and in fact the ToO is the last remaining LotR set available. Pet shop will likely go by October when TLG gets prepares to launch the next modular. The VW Camper is an interesting set and more of a question mark. I can see it being an AFOL favorite, but it's also been out a LONG time.  I would say the EV is probably the least likely of the list above to go this year.

    These would all be on my near-term purchase list if I was worried about having to pay the exorbitant aftermarket prices.

    Gotcha, Ok. I was not trying to be snarky if it came off that way, just was wondering. I agree with the list for the most part. I think SOH is around for another year at least though. While it is likely not a great seller, I cannot image Tower bridge has been after the first 1 year it was out either, but here it is about 6 years later (albeit at a lower cost than SOH). I believe someone said TB, VW van, and DS are all slated to go this year.. actually I think someone said DS may live through '16 as well. But I think even the stores are getting sick of it being available at this time (it is a shelf hog).
    Pet shop may or may not go if the rumor about LEGO selling them for a year exclusively before EOL has any truth to it.
    Simpsons house I see going as well by end of year at latest. I just do not see LEGO selling both the House and Kiwk E mart at the same time (also means you will have those who will desperately want a Simpsons house if they get the Kiwk e mart). I believe Ewok Village will be around until this Hoth playset that is on its way apparently. Tower of Orthanc is likely gone soon due to loTR being done. Red 5 being gone would be a but of surprise as well as didn't it just come out? And seeing it constantly on back order tells me it is a good seller.

    Okay I literally just bought the Death Star (Picture on brag thread) I am debating this. I have Ewok village a death star. I am only building one and not the other. I have no preference and no biased towards either one. Which one would make more sense to leave sealed? Thanks
