The Joker Steamroller set intrigues me. It has been out a little over a year and it is obvious it didn't sell well. The Town Hall didn't sell well either. All the figures are exclusive to the set except Batman. I definitely think it is overpriced at $49.99 and at 30% it is just about where it should be. Only 50% seems like a deal. Another problem is that it says "Robin" on the box. If they used the right name, maybe the set would be a bit more attractive. Either way, it will make a nice birthday gift for my nephew :)
I always leave plenty of sets on the shelves for other people. That is, if I ever find a deal.
That said, I left 20 of them at my local target at $24.98 Cause I just couldn't pull the trigger. I may regret it but oh well. They are gone now.
I think people may be ignoring a set that could climb (mostly due to those ignoring it) especially if Bat Girl is not done in another set for a while. Considering no catwoman to be seen no since the catwoman chase, who knows when if you see Batgirl around again.
What I think drives the set down is the steamroller itself. Hokey looking and also a bit outrageous( I get it, it is the Joker) but I think many are turned off by steam rollers in general apparently (take the city #7746 that was heavily discounted by LEGO to get rid of them). I think those who are completion-ists though will go after them in the aftermarket. Plus you get the 'Burton type' Joker version. I agree about the price 49.99 USD was too much, but under 30? Fine by me. Did I load up a cart with them? No, but I got a few.
But I really think for most SuperHeroes sets the same rule applies: At retail price: not going to raise much, but if found on a heavy discount, will be ok.
Then again just because Target has them on clearance we are assuming they are done already, I would not be surprised to see these back on Target shelves in a few months, at retail again. I would be surprised if they really are on their way out now and are not around for another few moths at least.
With that said, I think Batgirl will be the reason to buy this set. I think we are getting that Joker again in the Jokerland set this summer. Plus 2 new Robins this summer. I did ebay the figures when the set first came out, but then I bought the set since it was on clearance. My daughter will like the figures and it will still be cheaper than ebaying doubles of them.
Many of these sites are simply using the system feeds you can find on Targets website. So it will not be identical and relies on a Target store transmitting their stock left to a master database. So expect numbers to be off if the numbers were posted that 4 were remaining, but 1 hour later after the feed someone goes and buys all 4 (which is very likely to occur if someone sees Benny's spaceship for 30 dollars).
- Local target had a few agents sets marked down when I checked today. It was only 30% off or so though. I'll keep an eye on them for you and if I see a $30 headquarter I'll grab it for you.
Awfully kind of you
I havnt seen it even 1% off anywhere and $100 is a lot for a non-building set for me for some reason
Anybody think that'll come down more soon?
The TMNT sub looks interesting, but at the same time I agree on the figures. I didn't pick it up even though I've seen it with good sales. I didn't have much re-use of some of those pieces. I did find a TMNT turtle van (movie, not tv show) that I plan on building into the old one from my childhood, so that was worth it. Only 15% off though.
Basically the only sets available at any Targets near me are the Steam Roller, but they are still at 30% off (for at least 2 weeks now). You go to scan it and it doesn't ring up lower either..unfortunate. Not that it is worthwhile ultimately.
That was it for clearance, other than that they had some new City Destruction sets & Elves.
People cannot expect Targets to do what the customer thinks they should do. All Targets seem to handle their clearance differently, and that is what it is. Heck you could even have a vindictive manager that is tired of seeing people hover around the clearance waiting for 50% (or more) off. Maybe they make more in the write off? In any case, this is clearance merchandise which means this can occur, especially if they have more product to put up on the shelves and need to rid their shelves and stock room of these sets.
All is not lost though. My advice would be check your local retail discount stores like TJMaxx, Tuesday Morning, Big Lots, and maybe even Goodwill to see if they appear there in a week or two. Not sure if the major retails move their stuff directly to one of these discount stores locally or if they ship em all to be distributed all over the country, but I would say any sets deemed write offs have seemingly popped up in these discount stores in the past.
What Kroger Marketplace do you usually hit for Lego? Typically Newport for me. They have the Hulk Lab Smash for 40% in case you missed it at Target like I did.

This store had 6 of them. Worth checking for in your area.
