I picked up Benny's Spaceship ($49) at a NOVA Target and another $25 steamroller, the fyndly app was spot on for price (at the manual scanner on the IPhone, as the sticker was wrong), but the inventory was off, they had it listed at 1 available, but had three (Benny's).
    Which target in nova?

They had loads of the Joker set but I passed on them. That set must have really bombed. Resale value will be zero on that one. I am getting close to a half a million pieces now and don't want my last remaining space cluttered with sets I won't touch.

Yeah, I don't know what the deal is with the Joker set; it's got Damian Wayne and Batgirl and an exclusive joker, and I think the build for that one is a really fun one. Maybe $50 is just too much for a Superhero set, or maybe people just aren't interested in Damian and Batgirl. I hope someone who will enjoy the set, though, gets to pick it up before it disappears altogether.

@samiam391 , I feel your pain. I really didn't want to buy any Joker Steamrollers, but because they were on discount, I got filled with such joy and put a few in my cart. Nothing else at any of the Target stores around me.

The Joker Steamroller set intrigues me. It has been out a little over a year and it is obvious it didn't sell well. The Town Hall didn't sell well either. All the figures are exclusive to the set except Batman. I definitely think it is overpriced at $49.99 and at 30% it is just about where it should be. Only 50% seems like a deal. Another problem is that it says "Robin" on the box. If they used the right name, maybe the set would be a bit more attractive. Either way, it will make a nice birthday gift for my nephew :)

I always leave plenty of sets on the shelves for other people. That is, if I ever find a deal.

I think target got a huge shipment of the steam roller the same way as Wal-Mart got a huge shipment in of the black Friday creative towers recently. It probably has more to do with the west coast port issues than anything else. I'm not convinced the set didn't sell well, target just has to make room for the new 2015 sets.

That said, I left 20 of them at my local target at $24.98 Cause I just couldn't pull the trigger. I may regret it but oh well. They are gone now.

I found the brickseeker and fyndly apps to both be pretty accurate. The number on hand at each store was off by one or two but the price was accurate. Before I would travel to a store I would compare both apps. If both showed an item in stock then I felt a bit more secure in taking the drive. I do wish they were a bit more like the Wal-Mart app in the way that you can check each store and see all the stock instead of having to enter a dpci number . It's just a much slower process.
Well the phone app for Walmart does fairly well, search for the item and find store, but only if the item is on their site.

I think people may be ignoring a set that could climb (mostly due to those ignoring it) especially if Bat Girl is not done in another set for a while. Considering no catwoman to be seen no since the catwoman chase, who knows when if you see Batgirl around again.
What I think drives the set down is the steamroller itself. Hokey looking and also a bit outrageous( I get it, it is the Joker) but I think many are turned off by steam rollers in general apparently (take the city #7746 that was heavily discounted by LEGO to get rid of them). I think those who are completion-ists though will go after them in the aftermarket. Plus you get the 'Burton type' Joker version. I agree about the price 49.99 USD was too much, but under 30? Fine by me.  Did I load up a cart with them? No, but I got a few.
But I really think for most SuperHeroes sets the same rule applies: At retail price: not going to raise much, but if found on a heavy discount, will be ok.
Then again just because Target has them on clearance we are assuming they are done already, I would not be surprised to see these back on Target shelves in a few months, at retail again. I would be surprised if they really are on their way out now and are not around for another few moths at least.

That does tend to happen. Or one Target will have a certain set clearanced out and it will remain full price at another neighboring Target...very peculiar.

With that said, I think Batgirl will be the reason to buy this set. I think we are getting that Joker again in the Jokerland set this summer. Plus 2 new Robins this summer. I did ebay the figures when the set first came out, but then I bought the set since it was on clearance. My daughter will like the figures and it will still be cheaper than ebaying doubles of them.

Joker in the steamroller set is not the same joker in Jokerland. Yes sounds silly but you will have those that want the different versions of a character (same reason why people are willing to pay a large amount for the Ledger Joker in the Tumbler set). Joker in the Jokerland set will be like the one in the Juniors set, funhouse escape, the batwing set I believe, and the bumper car. But this will be the only set, at this time, for the wide brimed hat Joker.

@pharmjod , you may have a point with the West Coast Port issues. If this is actually why so many Target stores have these on clearance, then it might be a decent investment after all.

Tuesday i went by target and the innovatory on brickseek was wrong and they where sold out of Benny spaceship

If the system only shows 1 or 2 in stock, they could be damaged or hidden somewhere.
  • Thanos75Thanos75 Member Posts: 1,120
I found it can take up to 4 hours for the inventory to refresh. I put it to the test last time I went. The store had 6 battle for ninjago city sets for $60 each. I bought 4 of them. I timed when the inventory would reflect it and it took 4 hours.

Many of these sites are simply using the system feeds you can find on Targets website. So it will not be identical and relies on a Target store transmitting their stock left to a master database. So expect numbers to be off if the numbers were posted that 4 were remaining, but 1 hour later after the feed someone goes and buys all 4 (which is very likely to occur if someone sees Benny's spaceship for 30 dollars).
  • ReesesPiecesReesesPieces Member Posts: 1,131
I also noticed it can be inaccurate the other way.  I found several sets the inventory site said 0 stock but ended up seeing 2-3.

  • Thanos75Thanos75 Member Posts: 1,120
I have yet to see any store in my area with the HQ marked down any....not even 15%.....every other set in the series made it to 50% except for the three biggest sets.
  • mh3490mh3490 Member Posts: 329
Just picked up a technic hotrod for 50% off and a 76016 spider chopper for 30 bucks
  • dannyrwwdannyrww Member Posts: 1,394
I did get the Joker set...at $25 it came with enough unique things to get it...I don't have a Joker, Batgirl was the real selling point, and I like the Robin (assuming Damien Robin, right?). Batman is just another Batman and the goon is okay. I actually like the Steam Roller.

Why do I slowly get pushed more and more to strictly purchasing on Amazon during sales? I do not like to hunt or drive around lol I am so lazy

    @BACbrix
    - Local target had a few agents sets marked down when I checked today. It was only 30% off or so though. I'll keep an eye on them for you and if I see a $30 headquarter I'll grab it for you.
  • BACbrixBACbrix Member Posts: 655

Just bit the bullet and bought a #79017 Battle of Five Armies for $41.98 at Target. I was gonna wait and see if it dropped to 50% off this week, but they had 3 over the weekend and only 1 today, so rather than take the risk and wait till Thursday, I picked it up today. They still have 4 of the Attack on Laketown sets for $25.98. I wonder if they will drop on Thursday?
  • BumblepantsBumblepants Member Posts: 7,730
I got a single Joker Steam Roller yesterday for 50% off for my son's birthday. Not useful for parts packs for me so left the rest.

Man I wish I could get 79017 for $40.  All still $60 around here.

^I imagine it will go down for you too. IMO it was an overpriced set to begin with, and before the discount, the handful that my Target had sat on the shelfs since release, so it's probably not a great seller at RRP.

Has anyone built the tmnt submarine. I got it for 30 bucks and now looking at it dont like it as much. The two turtle minifigures with the breathing  mask seem to hurt the set in my opinion
  • Sethro3Sethro3 Member Posts: 1,016
There have been zero Hobbit sets around me, so either they sold well at MSRP or they just hardly received any stock so once they were gone, that was it. I'd love to pick up Hobbit sets at any discount, even 15%. I haven't found them anywhere to buy, so I still have yet to stock up.

The TMNT sub looks interesting, but at the same time I agree on the figures. I didn't pick it up even though I've seen it with good sales. I didn't have much re-use of some of those pieces. I did find a TMNT turtle van (movie, not tv show) that I plan on building into the old one from my childhood, so that was worth it. Only 15% off though.

Basically the only sets available at any Targets near me are the Steam Roller, but they are still at 30% off (for at least 2 weeks now). You go to scan it and it doesn't ring up lower either..unfortunate. Not that it is worthwhile ultimately.

The only Hobbit sets that I've seen at my local Targets are Witch King, 5 Armies, and Attack on LT. I managed to pick up WK and AoLT for $12.47 and 24.87 respectively. I agree that they're tough to find out there and I'm still waiting for that drop on 5 Armies.

@Goldchains did you check any of your local Wal-Mart stores for $35 Milano's?
  • BoomDiggityBoomDiggity Member Posts: 107
I'm with you on the GotG sets. I've been waiting for those to be discounted for awhile now. Unfortunately Cincinnati Walmarts have been wiped clean of the Milano.
  • matticus_bricksmatticus_bricks Member Posts: 651
There's a couple Milanos sitting on the shelf at Target near me at $74.99. Hopefully they will still be there by the time they get discounted.
  • RonyarRonyar Member Posts: 373
Having the Brickseek and Fyndly apps has just reinforced my impression that my area sells out of sets before they even bother discounting them very far, if at all.  Almost nothing has been discounted past the initial 15 or 30% drop, and only a couple of stores within 50 miles even have those left.  Oh well.  At least it's almost 70 out and sunny.  I'll have to take solace in the other quality of life factors!  ;)

Exactly what he said. There's also a large Kroger Marketplace that has a shelf full too at $74.99. They've discounted most of the other sets, but not these. I have no idea why.

BTW, I could use 79017 Battle of the Five Armies and 79018 The Lonely Mountain if anyone finds them and is willing to trade/sell.

So, after watching the Joker Steam Rollers sit at our local store at 30% off, I came in today to fimd them still marked as such, but with a clearance cart nearby so I stalled and waited, went back over to hooefully het them for 50, and they wer GONE.  I asked the person doing markdowns who said they were being written off, and woukd not sell it to me. Not even one :(
  • Thanos75Thanos75 Member Posts: 1,120
I checked the brickseeker site just now and it doesn't look like any of the Targets near me made any further reductions today. Kind of odd. Usually at least one of the stores makes a move.

Wow, but that is their right, and a cautionary tail to all of those waiting for the perfect score.
People cannot expect Targets to do what the customer thinks they should do.  All Targets seem to handle their clearance differently, and that is what it is. Heck you could even have a vindictive manager that is tired of seeing people hover around the clearance waiting for 50% (or more) off. Maybe they make more in the write off?  In any case, this is clearance merchandise which means this can occur, especially if they have more product to put up on the shelves and need to rid their shelves and stock room of these sets.

All is not lost though. My advice would be check your local retail discount stores like TJMaxx, Tuesday Morning, Big Lots, and maybe even Goodwill to see if they appear there in a week or two. Not sure if the major retails move their stuff directly to one of these discount stores locally or if they ship em all to be distributed all over the country, but I would say any sets deemed write offs have seemingly popped up in these discount stores in the past.
  • starfailurestarfailure Member Posts: 138

What Kroger Marketplace do you usually hit for Lego?  Typically Newport for me.  They have the Hulk Lab Smash for 40% in case you missed it at Target like I did.

Picked up a couple of these today at 70% off ($20.98) from Target ...

    79014: Dol Guldur Battle

This store had 6 of them.  Worth checking for in your area.
