    What do you design? I worked in the aerospace industry as well for awhile. I used to design fighter jet and commercial aircraft engines.

    GE and Pratt and Whitney. I worked extensively with steam turbines at GE Schnectady, NY and that experience helped me in the aerospace industry.

    Interesting topic

    I studied economics and was a researcher, then teacher.

    Regrettably got some health problems so at home for the moment. Hopefully will get well enough to do some kind of job, part-time and maybe from home. So trying to think about a different carreer, something to do from home maybe with cooking, organising, teaching at a distance, writing or lego ;-)
    But no rush,this means I get time with my son and I can build lots of lego and cook lovely dinners for my darling husband (who got me loads of cool Lego stuff under the tree)!

    I work for the U.S. Forest Service in Ketchikan, Alaska, assigned to the Tongass National Forest Partnerships and Public Affairs staff. My business cards say I'm the forest's Partnership Coordinator, which means I do a little of everything; running the forest's social media platforms, shooting video and writing press releases, serving as a uniformed forest ranger/interpreter on cruise ships and in visitor centers, doing planning/development for exhibits and programs, and every now and again going into action as a wildland firefighter. I credit/blame the Forest Police theme (they're park rangers, damnit!) for rekindling the spark and putting an end to my Dark Ages.

    Spent a year in loss prevention at TRU, was promoted to juvenile dept supervisor, where I worked for two years. But recently quit TRU to work in private security.

    Was pretty tough having to "bite my tongue" so much these last few years when reading forum threads about my employer.

    I will say this however that customer service was a priority for most people there. However the amount of waste was appalling. There were days when they were literally shoveling good toys into the trash.

    I headed the computer aided design team that worked on engine components for the F-16 fighter engine. I had to get clearance and all of that. It was just too stressful for me, so l left after a year and went into automotive design.

    Mostly is was product that the packaging was damaged in the store by customers or "guests" as they call us, or damaged returns.
    A small percentage of stuff was shipped back to a larger warehouse on return trucks. Also management and employees were often too lazy during resets and just threw stuff away instead of marking it down to clear it out since shelf space was at a premium during those times.

    I'm an electrician.

    Not as fancy a title as some of the occupations on here, but it's not bad work and the pay isn't bad either.

    I'm the accounting manager for a software company. We make clinical research software that's used mostly by cancer centers, academic medical centers, etc. I like numbers, and I like good deals on Lego sets. I'm getting pretty good at being patient and waiting for sales. I somehow haven't bought the Hobbit set with Smaug in it yet ... waiting for it to be around $100 or less. And I'm getting better at not hording as many sets at my house too. I mostly just keep what I can display and will sell older sets that I am no longer interested in displaying. Or maybe that's what my girlfriend "encouraged" me to do ...

    not sure if the initiator of this is still watching, but apparently others do :-)

    I'm the Head of Science Programme of a big international (intergovernmental but independent) science organization which coordinates marine research in the North Atlantic and provides advice on fisheries management. LEGO maniac since 20 years otherwise.

    I'm a Data & Process Manager for a major retailer, with a background of data analytics's, so typically work with datawarehouses, daft Excel models etc - but these days focus on the internal and external processes in which data enters, gets used, and exits the business so as to ensure we're confident in the accuracy and legality of said data.

    Has it's days, but mostly enjoy it. Means I spend a lot of time talking to various parts of the business to understand how they operate - so get a fairly broad view of retailing, and the joys and troubles that can bring in its various areas - which sometimes becomes relevant in the context of this forum ;)

    Eh, how did I miss this thread over the years? So many interesting people and their occupations. Hoping the economy is kind to us all so we can spend more $ on LEGO!

    I'm a doctor, considering *gasp* psychiatry! Currently a Psych registrar. Make sure you play your LEGO regularly, I get withdrawals if I were to miss my evening dose!

    Hey thehornedrat, that's a good one. For me it was a late discovery as well and I'm intrigued about the variety of professions here. For me it most relaxing to build during evenings after a long day. Mostly sets using instructions but also projects during holidays at home. Should mention that I'm in Copenhagen during the week and drive over to Germany for the weekend where we still have our home with more space (where all the good stuff is in the cabinets). :-)

    So many computer guys! Well... I guess it's not surprising.

    I'm in the more "artsy" group and work as a translator, mainly in the fields of pollution, ecology, biology and zoology. I know a lot of people think it sounds boring, but I like it and I get to learn something new almost every day. :smile: And more importantly I get to write all day long. I love writing more than anything else.

    You've got me curious... what sort of work do you do as a translator specifically in biology and zoology?

    @samiam391 My largest project in zoology so far was an encyclopedia on Canadian mammals, it was awesome! Most of the time, they are smaller texts on endangered species, government action plans to restore them and their habitats, or projects of new national parks/conservation areas. Also regulations related to fauna/flora. (The Government of Canada has to translate almost everything into French, being a bilingual country).

    I consider myself very lucky since it is exactly what I wanted to do when I graduated.

    Mostly commercial, promotional and legal (IP related) stuff but like you, this was all I wanted to do upon graduating, I love that I write all day (helps with writing those Lego reviews) and generally do learn new things every day.
    Great to have another translator here as well as me and @Legopants !

    Hello everyone! I am new on this forum! Been collecting since a few months! (Have over 80 sets now ahahah). I am a doing a PhD in neuroscience at McGill University. Pretty much interested in the development of children with neurological disorders!!!

    Data analyst and manager. I took it as a temporary job 17 years ago and never quite got around to leaving!  I'm hoping to leave one day and move across to a company that sells telescope/imaging products, which is far more interesting!

    @Lobot - thanks for the info :-)  Haven't use my telescope since the mid-80s and the coating on both mirrors has speckled badly. I'm looking to get back into a bit of astronomy without having to splash out on a new scope.

    I did my biochem undergrad at McGill! Was planning to go into medicine but taking a break for a few years
