[US] Wal-Mart clearance sets in northern Columbus, OH.

edited February 2015 in Shopping USA/Canada
Hey all, just thought I would pass on some set prices I saw yesterday:
These were at the Wal-Mart on Rt. 23- X-Men vs. The Sentinel for $35 and $19 for Spinlyn's Cavern, this is marked as $30 but rings up $19. Also available was Battle of Smallville ($25) and a Creator set Furry creatures,($16?).
The Wal-mart on State/Rt. 3 had Kai's Fighter for $13.50.

The Bethel Road Wal-mart had Kai's Red Mech for $5 (marked as $7) and the Juniors Defend the Batcave for $21. Also on hand were a few leftover Galaxy Squad sets (#70701 I think) and a Creator race car. Most of these are in the Clearance aisles in the Lawn & Garden section or in the clearance toy shelves.

Wow; that's awesome. Thanks for sharing. I'll check our local ones later and see what I can find. I'd grab that Xmen set for that price in a second.
  • Niles87Niles87 Member Posts: 26
No problem! I did get a 2nd X-Men for myself, and there was only one more left. I was going to grab it but I figured I would let someone else nab it.

Thanks. I managed to track down Flying Phoenix Fire Temple for 50% off. My son is not a big Chima fan, but this was one of the sets he really liked the look of. I had been hoping it would go down in cost.

I found the Museum Break In at the Grove City Wal-Mart for $35. I found that Wal-Mart doesn't have everything correctly priced and labeled. A majority of the sets were lower than the marked price after I went to scan at a price finder.

I have had really good luck using the Wal-Mart app on my phone and scanning the sets . You have to have to have it set to the store your in. Has saved my lots of time and looks.

As long as your local Walmart actually puts a clearance price on their lego sets, unlike the trash one by me. Markup 10%, and then put a 5% clearance price on it...
  • Thanos75Thanos75 Member Posts: 1,120
That is true.....but on more then one occasion I have scanned sets marked full price only to have them scan on sale. Plus when you are looking up the price it shows you the prices in the surrounding stores. Found some really good deals that way aswell.

Thanks to @Niles87 for the tip about Spinlyn's Cavern! I just wanted the Spinlyn figure from the set. I was about to pull the trigger and pay $15 on Bricklink for one since the sets at my local Walmart have been collecting dust at $30 apiece. I ran over there after checking this thread and found an un-labeled set for $19. Tried to get them to go lower (it works sometimes) but no luck. That's ok though, I've now got the figure and the kids can have the rest for their freebuild bins. Awesome!

Also, big thanks to @Thanos75 for the heads up about the app checking local prices. Now I don't have to run around town anymore and can save my gas money for LEGO!

Man, I never knew about that price checker feature. I wonder if you can price-match other Walmarts. The one near me had a Lord Business Lair for $15 recently, and I must've just missed it; but other stores have it in stock...
  • Niles87Niles87 Member Posts: 26
No problem @eggshen! I have talked them in to lower prices on some things. I got the Juniors: Defend the Batcave for $19 when it was marked at $21. Not much of a difference but when it was originally $30...
@luckie_reubs I have priced-matched other Wal-Marts. They are a little touchy about price-matching clearance/sales items, but usually if it's within $3 dollars, the cashier will do it without calling a manager, who usually start asking questions. If an item is on clearance at Wal-Mart, its not guaranteed to be on clearance at another. It depends on their stock, how fast they can move an item and a few other factors.

man, i wish i could find a sentinel set for 35! I've been hoping for a clearance on that set for a while now. I thought kmart would have clearanced it last fall. Funny thing at my local wm (western pennsylvania) is that the LOTR ghost pirate ships were on clearance last year then disappeared. I figured a local scalper bought all of the sets plus the star wars jabba the hutt barges. However, 2 of the pirate ships have returned (albeit with damaged boxes and still at the not-so-discounted price of $74). I never seem to find deals like people on the forums do.

I think I got lucky last week. I work 3rd shift and have TH/FRI off so I figured I would waste a little bit of gas to check around. Lately I have been checking to sales racks just to be sure. Yesterday, I found a banged-up #9500 Sith Fury-Class Infiltrator but it's not much of deal as it looks opened and feeling really light for the box size.

Found a few things in the 25-30% off range at my local Super WM (Madison, WI).
Milano for $54, Ice Mammoth for $64, Kai Fighter/Overborg Attack for ~$15, NinjaCopter for $45. The shelves were already pretty bare though. Picked up a Milano for myself and a LUGmate.

Definitely YMMV. I went to a wal-mart last night, tons of Chima on clearance, but only like 10% off. Basically everything full price and a few above typical MSRP. Very odd.

What is this app people are talking about? Can it be dl'd on a kindle? (no smart phone for me)
  • thenosthenos Member Posts: 444
No, don't think amazon store has it. It is just the Walmart app for android or iPhone.

A couple of things have scanned at less than shelf tag price (especially Speedors).

Oddly enough, found #79116 at WM in Humboldt TN for $49. Not a bad discount on very recent set.
  • korkor Member Posts: 392
^ Same here in Mentor Ohio. They weren't marked but I scanned one for the heck of it and it came up $49.00.

Mentor???.... That's where I used to play paintball. I played for Pinnacle Woods /Ohio Black Rain....wow...brings back memories.

i grabbed a couple Spinlyn's Caverns(?) for $19/ea. Battle of Smallville was $25. Neither were tagged, so I had to scan them. I'm wondering if I should go back and check some other stuff.
  • Niles87Niles87 Member Posts: 26
I found the TMNT Street chase set #79104 for $49 also. It definitely depends on the Wal-marts stock. Still can't get any of the Batman/Penguin sets cheap. Some WM have them listed for $9.97 but are sold out, then others have them at reg. price $12.97 (and won't price match it.) Ugh.

I've for a Lord Business lair ready for pick-up locally for $21. I hope it's got all the pieces; if not, I'll be pretty ticked off.
  • pharmjodpharmjod Member Posts: 2,916
As a word of warning, I had two Lord business lairs for pickup at $35 each at the same store. When I got there they had the hulk lab smash set. There was a note saying the set was cross linked in there system and that was what they were told to pull. don't be shocked if they have the wrong thing.

Found 4 sets of #70012 Razars CHI Raider for $11 each. Well worth it for 400+ parts. Also had most of the ones @Ladder19JTK posted above, as well as Metal Bears Duel for $25, Battle for Ninjago City for $89, a load of B-wings for $35. This was in Lincoln NE

Cmon, don't make me think bad thoughts here! I'll pass completely on that set, but thanks for preparing me for disappointment.

Yeah, went to WM yesterday and Lego sets were all normal priced. I asked about the Steam Roller specifically and they said nothing was on sale at the moment. Lamesauce!
  • Thanos75Thanos75 Member Posts: 1,120
I have seen lots of sets at crazy prices lately at WM. Saw Lords Business Lairs today for $21.
  • BumblepantsBumblepants Member Posts: 7,729
^Yeah I got a Ninjago Temple of Light for $21 today.

I know of a Wal-Mart down here that still has Unexpected Gatherings and Weathertops sitting on the shelves..

^ At full price I'm assuming? Wonder if they ship. ;)
  • Thanos75Thanos75 Member Posts: 1,120
Yeah....full price and the boxes are pretty rough. Trust me....if they were in good shape and at a discount I would have already grabbed them. The boxes are literally taped shut.

I ran out of town 100miles away and we ran into WM. While the others were looking at other stuff I noticed too...WM had some price drops on some of there previously clearance Lego. It was a small WM...here's what they had:

    6-7 Bennys Spaceships...still $74
    #41051 Merida's Highland Games ($19.99) marked at $15 scanned $9
    #41050 Ariel's Amazing Treasures ($12.99) marked at $7 scanned $5
    #41030 Olivia's Ice Cream Bike ($9.99) marked at $9 scanned $5
    #70500 Ninjago Kia's Fire Mech ($9.99) marked $7 scanned $3
    #76013 Joker Steam Roller ($49.99) marked $35 scanned $25

I guess I'll be going to my area Wal-marts to find a Stem Roller for $25. Hopefully I get lucky!
  • scotty12scotty12 Member Posts: 852
Found some Chima at lower prices at my closest Walmart...the newer release of Chima were still either regular price or the stores red tagged clearance prices. But the older stuff (Blue version) scanned even lower than what the tag said. I don't buy any Chima..but could pass a few of these up for parts for the kids/library.

#70129 Lavertus Twin Blade ($19.99) marked at $11 scanned at $4
#70130 Sparratus' Spider Stalker ($24.99) marked at $13 scanned $5
    #70133 Spinlyn's Cavern ($39.99) marked at $30 scanned $11

Does anyone know if a Walmart will price-match other physical Walmarts' prices?
  • Niles87Niles87 Member Posts: 26
They have for me in the past. But not if it's clearance. So best not to mention it if it's a clearance item.
  • thenosthenos Member Posts: 444
One Walmart near me had the Fire Temple listed for $35, but none in stock (because Walmart's stock indicator sucks). Consoled myself with a $25 Mech Dragon, but I wanted that fire temple... oh well.

^I've been finding Walmart's inventory tracker is pretty lousy.  Went into two Walmart's today.  One said it didn't have any #75054 AT-ATs, but had 4 on the shelf.  The one that said it had them on sale and in stock of course didn't have any.  Trying to avoid chasing deals due to the time, but the AT-AT on sale was worth trying to get.  I also found #70807 MetalBeard's Duel on the inventory for only $17, but that wasn't there either.  I'd do site to store pick up more to avoid the unhappy surprises if they didn't stick those awful pick-up stickers directly on the boxes.
  • scotty12scotty12 Member Posts: 852

Anyone finding Bennys Spaceship for the $49 on the Walmart Inventory checker?

I was a little over an hour away for work and hit 3 WMs that had 6-8each of them but last week they were $79....now it says $49.  It's probably still safer to call.

Mine had these priced the same, but they ring up $35 and $25, respectively. Though I don't collect the Friends series, at that price they make for a superb apartment and house facade for something the wife and I are working on for a youtube channel. We just need to pick up a PR, about 25 palm trees, and some streets so we can begin shooting!
