On Baseplate or On Plates On Baseplate?

I've just about finished building an Endor MOC to show at Teeside Unleashed next Saturday.

Lots of foliage and trees etc. First time I've done anything like this so just built straight onto 32x32 baseplate.

To say it's flimsy is being generous, lots of flex in the base has bits popping out all over except that is where I've built on top of plates placed on the baseplate to add colour, texture etc.

Should I have built a whole layer on top of the baseplate first to increase stability? Should I have just foregone the baseplate and brick/plate-built a base? What do you do?

Slide the baseplate on to a wooden board before lifting it.

What @CCC said is a good solution at this stage. In the future though, you have the right idea on building things up a little. Building MOCs that can stand up to travel stress requires some different ways of thinking.

I think baseplates make a good first layer and are quite useful for strengthening larger builds with a large footprint without adding extra bulk and weight of additional layers of plates.
