Do the selections at your Walmart differ by the neighborhood they are in?

It seems like the less socioeconomic ones will have more options as Lego is pricey, but they also can have some pilfered and beat up boxes.

    You mean the ghetto?

    Yes, he means ghetto

Actually, I totally just went to a ghetto Walmart and I can actually verify that yes there were indeed a lot of higher end sets and almost nothing under $20-25

And there were also a ton of beat up boxes

I did manage to find 2 LotR Weathertop sets marked 60% off shoved back behind the Friends sets of all places

I don't collect LotR really but I had to grab them for the parts alone

^Jealous! That is my favorite theme, so I'd gladly take extras at a discounted price. I have hardly found any Hobbit sets around me and LOTR was very few and far between. If it wasn't for S@H I wouldn't own most of them.

No wonder the theme is ending (also because of the movies ending).

Ran into WM to return an item and they had move clearance toys to the Lawn/Garden area and found all The Lego Movie theme sets on clearance...no prices...and the nearest scanner is in the back of the store near the toys...so I carried a few sets, hoping I finally found a great deal on a Bennys Spaceship, among others...$99.97...everything full priced. I put them back in the Lego aisle.

Our local WMT is finally resetting the Lego aisle. They've already put the new Minecraft sets out, but nothing else. The shelves are temporarily almost vacant, but you can see the 2014 sets that will continue to be sold, and they've made room for the 2015 sets which should be on the shelf soon. There's no resetting going on where I'd like to see it, though, in the Friends Lego aisle. There are retiring sets there, but they are all at full retail price. I mean Swimming Pools, Bakery's, Rehearsal Stage, Heartlake High School, etc. It's a waiting game for those, and WMT seems to be in no hurry to discount them.
  • mrseatlemrseatle Member Posts: 410
Lego lost a lot of real estate at the Walmart near me. Half of the aisle is now mega Bloks. The Friends section an aisle over is still intact.

Looks like they found some Daily Buggle sets in the warehouse but even marked down to $40 I wasn't moved to buy. Maybe for $30... I did pick up a couple more Series 13 minifigs and a really nice sterilite container.

Got creator twinblade adventures for $13.00. I hadn't planned to get that one as I prefer cars over aircrafts, but it was a good deal and turned out to be a fun build.
  • Sethro3Sethro3 Member Posts: 1,015
That's the trick with Wal-Mart...I've noticed a lot of regular priced LEGO in the clearance aisle. You get excited to see a set there, then you find out it is still full MSRP...

Granted, I don't make it to Wal-Mart very often. It's just too far out of the way for where I travel. Unfortunately, Target is nearby. I say unfortunately because they seem to be more expensive on most things...
  • iplanteiplante Member Posts: 164
Not if you have the 10% employee discount, with the 5% red card discount on top ;)
  • Thanos75Thanos75 Member Posts: 1,120
Usually when you see a regular priced item with a red sticker on it the item is just overstock and not really on clearance. They key is the price. If the set ends in $.00 then it's clearance if it's $.97 or $.98 then it's overstock.

^ Any idea why WM need to mark it as such? Is it an indication that the item may be a candidate for clearance in the future? I assume that the consumer doesn't care about the red part of the sticker, just the actual price. So presumably the marking is for the benefits of WM itself.
  • GIR3691GIR3691 Member Posts: 674
Overstock items generally don't have a spot on the regular product shelf anymore but haven't been marked for clearance.
  • scotty12scotty12 Member Posts: 852
Yet WM still puts "overstock" in the clearance section of the store at full price. WM would have the room if they really wanted to. Heck...most of the time their Lego shelves are disastrous anyway. Many times, around here(iowa) you can only see the ends of the boxes anyway. At least Target has their items clearly marked for clearance and what the original price was.

Found a Walmart an hour away that has 42(I counted) Battle of Smallvilles... all $35 and none selling.

Pfffsh. Target had those for $20 last summer. Online for pickup, even.

Went to a couple of Walmarts, nothing going on. One of them(Fort Wright, Kentucky) had a big section filled with Bao Bao building sets right in the middle of the City sets. Oh the horror...

Not a clearance per say but right now on Walmart.com you can get #75052 for 48.99. I believe it is out of stock online but maybe you can do the pick up in store option.
I picked up my copy at Target and got the 5% red card savings on top of the price match.
  • Sethro3Sethro3 Member Posts: 1,015
I don't even see it on the walmart website at all, let alone at that price.

It was Wednesday only, I believe. #75081 sky hopper is currently $20

While traveling in the southeast US, I just saw several WMT stores with 30% discounts on the current TMNT line. That was surprising to me, since they are 2014 sets. The "battle pack" was $9, every thing else was 30% off. The biggest set, Lair Attack was full price. Also saw some Friends sets finally being clearance at 30% off. Most stores had none leftover from the holidays, but those that did have finally put Heartlake High School, Olivia's House and Pet Salon on clearance. Also saw the Bakery for a slightly reduced price. Also, Princess Merida Highland, a $20 set, is being sold for $15. The winner of the bunch (IMO) is the Heartlake City Pool, which they are still trying to get full price for. I saw lots of those in some stores, but there are still asking $40. Patience, my friend...

    On Thursday I saw

    70145 Ice Mammoth $64
    76021 Milano $54

And there were stickers for TMNT Big Rig Getaway for $49 and Highway Cruiser for $9, but no sets.

My Walmart used to have a nice selection of sets large, and small. It's different with different areas which sets are stocked, for example the Wal mart in my area never has sets over $65.00. I Have to buy those online.  The store doesn't have enough Super Heroes sets, and too many Chima, and Ninjago sets no one ever buys. Terrible selection of sets, the stock barely moves for months. This year I didn't see any sets on sale at all. Last year there was a sale, but the Sets were only out for about a week then taken off the store shelves. Year before they usually mark them down, let the prices stick, then mark them down again before removing the sets off the shelves to make room for the New. Most of the sets the last few years I see are the Star Wars Battle Packs, and sets no one wants at my store.

No $50 Benny's Spaceship around me.The only thing I found even semi worthwhile was TMNT #79118  Karai Bike Escape for 4.99.I figured the turtle figure alone was worth that much. They did have one #79115 Turtle Van Takedown for $19.00 but I noticed tape over the seals on one end of the box.I might go back & see if they'll let me pop it open in front of them to see if anything is missing,if not I'd buy it.If something is missing they can just tape it back shut ;)

Tragically some people are cursed with WM's that have MEGA sucky clearance prices. There's 4 walmart around that we can go to around here. First one almost never has decent clearance prices and items on clearance can stick around for months w/o going down much in price. Number 2 has a little better deals if you're willing to wait AGES but not by much. As of the last time I tried #3(it's been at least 4 months, IIRC), it's basically a copy of what store one is. Store 4 has the best deals if you're patient though the wait time isn't as bad as the first 2 stores.

I've never seen anyone with a price gun, let alone one that will change it for you. I went to a Wal-Mart and found the ninjago ninjacopter for 30 (originally 60)and the b wing scanned at 20 (originally 50) but it didn't have any stickers on it and the mechdragon scanned at 21 (originally 90), but it had 64 on the price tag.

I truly feel your misfortune - yesterday was an absolute anomaly. I usually have awful luck with LEGO at WMs. Yesterday's grab might have made up for lost gasoline during the previous 3 years worth of searches.

Someone has asked me to post a pic of the base camp with the price sticker in hopes that they could get their local WM to match it. Seems a bit unlikely to me, but can't be any less likely than a WM manager with a price gun practically giving LEGO away off of the clearance table! So, good luck. Here's your pic.

Did it ring up as $25 or did you have to get an override?  There's a stack of these at the local Walmart that I'm eagerly waiting to be reduced.  But I can't see it happening.  Won't be my luck.  I agree about wasting gas driving around.  Might as well spend the extra money and buy it if I really want it.  It's the thrill of the hunt though, you know.
  • OdinduskOdindusk Member Posts: 763
Rang up as the full $89.97. Override was required.

At this point I will try and get them to match. My store has 4 of them left so I am wondering if I buy all 4 they would give me a deal. Probably not... but hey something has got to change.

Match what, the $25?  That's not an advertised price, so why would it be matchable?

Seriously @TheLoneTensor ? Almost every time I comment on a major thread you respond in some form or another either contradict or question me. Stop it seriously I do not want to hear from you. And why would they match it? I don't know but it is worth a try :|

Worth a shot, sure. It's basically dependent upon showing the pic to a WM employee with price matching power, who also really doesn't care about company policy and just goes with the flow. Ideally you find an employee who plans to quit at the end of the day, heh.

It's not against the forum rules to be contradictory, unless someone is trolling, which I don't see as the case here. Walmart's price match policy doesn't include user-submitted photos posted to the internet. You're obviously free to try, but you shouldn't get your hopes up.

I'm not going to "stop it," because I am warranted an opinion.  I simply asked a question as to why they would match such a request.  It's unfortunate that many of your posts seem to be either inaccurate or questionable, but that's how you have established yourself so far.  Good luck using @mathew as a role model.  I'm sure that will serve you well :)

I will admit, you do have me wondering what a "major thread" is though...

One that yields more attention compared to simple ones with very little traffic. And that is fine keep rectifying my shortcomings, I will pay them no attention from here on out because I realize that it is in your nature to make sure everything is in line with your view just like it is in my nature to laugh at the useless comments you spew out. Honestly I cant imagine trying to price match a clearance item with a PHOTO at another store, even within the same company. I'd be embarrassed honestly. There are some deals that I realize are just luck or right place right time and don't even contemplate trying to replicate.

  • BACbrixBACbrix Member Posts: 655
Embarrassing? Why? It never hurts to ask. Sure it is a long shot but hey, when I go to ask and they say no at least I have peace of mind. But whatever everybody does their own thing so I will do mine. If I get the deal I will post evidence.
  • pharmjodpharmjod Member Posts: 2,916
Good luck. You might have better luck with a receipt scan or photo. FWIW this set can currently be had from Amazon.co.uk for ~$68 shipped with no price matching so that is an option for you as well.
