Anyone at Toy Fair Press Day on Tuesday? I've just registered so will hopefully be attending. Never been before so any tips on getting as much out of is as possible would be appreciated.

Book an appt to visit the lego stand in advance otherwise you won't get on it.

That's easier said than done, though, and I can offer no suggestions.

Got one already, no worries. Shorthand may come in useful for taking notes if I can remember any of it... otherwise, if I recall from the hurried lists on forums from previous years, these appointments are very much a whistle-stop tour, right?

Wonder if it'd be worth just taking a dictaphone to record details quicker...

Do you have a smartphone? There's tons of voice recording apps.

Although I suppose they may object to you visibly carrying a cell phone.
  • HuwHuw Administrator Posts: 7,120
Recording on your phone and talking to yourself is a good idea and something I've done in the past. However taking notes is fine also.

Trips can be a bit rapid, particularly as you're escorted round and your guide waits for you while the product experts deliver their spiel, so wants to hurry you along.

I'll be there with the Blocks team on Tuesday and we'll try and report what we see that evening.

Just have some headphones round your neck with the built in mic and put the phone in your pocket recording. Built in to iPhones as standard.

I was in Olympia today working on a stand and watched the guys below us graphic most of the Lego stand. There wasn't a single graphic that I didn't recognise so nothing new so far, I'll be there tomorrow so I'll see if anything new goes up I'll report then.

Very interested in the new space sets. Please post any insights on those if you can.

Unfortunately, nothing new to report. After the City graphics were done a casement ceiling was put in as the stand is overlooked by a mezzanine. I'm sure @Huw‌ will keep us informed...

We were there this morning and a full report will follow later when we get home.

Scooby doo and Jurassic world were on display but no sets there at all had minifigs, just plain white stand-ins so we obviously didn't see what they are like.

There was nothing new at the show which isn't already in the database other than one friends set, a limo.

No the force awakens sets but that was to be expected.

JW sets looked good but incredibly expensive.

My best in show award goes to the Technic merc truck which has new pneumatics and a new boom piece on the unloading arm

    Yay! Technic!
Do you reckon the Merc will be this year's flagship model, @Huw , or do you think they may have something else up their sleeve? I'm not sure of the size / piece count on the truck, which may answer the question for me.

@LostInTranslation ^^^^^ Lovin' the headlines and the enthusiasm, but your "I've had too much caffeine!" line stole the show! Awe-AWE-AWESOME!

@Huw looking forward to the full report(s).

A lot the non licensed stuff was pretty good, city deep sea in particular looked excellent. Very much an updated divers theme. The space sets were not so good, being aimed at younger builders.

The town square was superb. £140 for 2 shops including a LEGO store, tram, LEGO lorry, coffee kiosk, garage, breakdown truck etc.

I'm on the train home hence drip feeding ...

Yes, Chima is ending this year. I wasn't going to report it because the guy that told us was a bit cagey aabout it but if BF have already then the cats out the bag...
  • HuwHuw Administrator Posts: 7,120
Truck is the flagship 170 pounds, 2700 pieces.motor, 4 pneu, pneu pump, tipping back, grab arm, new scoop pieces. Cab is white. Merc logo printed on 2x2 boat stud.

Based on that BF report, no TMNT? :(
  • HuwHuw Administrator Posts: 7,120
Mobile crawler crane is motorised too, 110pounds blue and had an boom about 1m long. Seaplane is white and red and m pled great too.
  • HuwHuw Administrator Posts: 7,120
Ninjago flyers looked quite cool. They have a rip cord mechanism to launch a disc thingy with a minifig in a dome on it
  • HuwHuw Administrator Posts: 7,120
    No tmnt

Couldn't agree more with what Huw said. Technic stood out for me too with three brilliant sets and there were some good Creator and City offerings.

Honestly I found the Star Wars and Super Heroes sets a bit underwhelming. The Marvel minifigures were great (Sandman, Carnage, Rhino and Iron Spider looked to be the best) while DC had only one new villain: Deathstroke. Interestingly the man on the stand was aware of the rumoured Killer Croc bigfig and commented that he had no idea where that had come from. The Jokerland set looked good and had some Teen Titans heroes, but I wanted a couple more new characters.

I will give a full rundown of the licensed sets tomorrow morning but will have time on the train a bit later to give more details here.

If I may jump in here, I'm sort of surprised at Chima ending.

I guess it just ended up not being as popular as they had hoped.
  • HuwHuw Administrator Posts: 7,120
Me too. The theme it was supposed to replace will outlive it...

I thought chima would end after first wave but then it seemed to take off. Guess its had a good run.
  • HuwHuw Administrator Posts: 7,120
The three summer sets are just way too weird. One is a bear mech with huge great black wheels on it that folds down to become a vehicle. It looked awful.

How is @Huw‌ getting any data connection on a train from Waterloo to the South Coast! The Wi-Fi is usually overloaded and there is no signal unless you pass through a station.

    The wonder at his abilities continue to grow . . . . . . .
  • HuwHuw Administrator Posts: 7,120
Actually I'm on the southern service via Gatwick just coming up to chichester and it's been a good signal all the way down
  • Captain_EyebrowCaptain_Eyebrow Member Posts: 177
Ah, the scenic route, I hope Arundel was looking nice!

Jurassic World sets were very expensive in my opinion. I started writing down £29.99 for one set but then realised it was in fact £49.99! The staff member claimed that the dinosaur moulds were slightly redesigned since last time although I didn't notice the difference in anything but the D-Rex personally.

The ball pods from the trailer did appear in one set and they looked great, using pieces not unlike the LEGO baubles.

I sort of feel like Chima did itself in by introducing too many different characters.

I actually don't even know how many different animals they ended up with.
  • JayEmJayEm Member Posts: 62
Thanks very much for the information, Huw and CapnRex. Do you remember much about the summer Marvel sets? I'd just be interested to know the prices and minifigure lineups.
  • HuwHuw Administrator Posts: 7,120
Chris made copious notes on the prices and minifigs and will report soon!

Thanks for the report fellas. Such a shame that there wasn't any TMNT there...is the line now dead?

Or maybe it was a planned end. It has been three years.

Ninjago was popular and yet it ended after it's given time slot. And then brought back again. Maybe Chima will return if they don't have another idea for an action theme after Ninjago has run it's second course.

What was the color scheme of the Deep Sea stuff? I'm hoping not orange, as we've had that the past two years in Coast Guard and then Arctic.

Brick Fanatics didn't mention Creator. Any word on that @Huw?
  • HuwHuw Administrator Posts: 7,120
Three sets, a suv vehicle, a small house that has parts to transform it for different seasons. Eg white roof tiles as well as black or whatever, and a dark blue fighter jet much like the red white one from a few years ago, so actually not very excting

How'd the summer Elves sets look? Can you give me a size estimate on the castle?

No rush of course, I'm more than happy to wait for your report. But that's one of the themes I'm most interested in hearing about (along with BIONICLE and Ninjago).

Legends of Chima ending does not entirely surprise me — from what I've heard, the show has basically wrapped up, and I don't know if it ever really caught on in the United States the way Ninjago did. I feel like the theme got a pretty good run, though.

^Yes! The description on BF is tantalizing. Is the style akin to #60026 with open backed stores?

^Yes, it's very much in that vein.

I think it would have to be, with everything included (coffee shop, garage, LEGO store, police station, and tram stop).

Disappointing to hear Dinosaurworld is so expensive and was hoping for some nice old school space sets...
But really don't mind chima retiring, that just really is not my cup of tea (although the phoenix flyer looks quite cool).
