If they were to make a DC Superheroes CMF series...

Since there's a discussion going about what people would like to see in a Marvel series I thought I'd start a thread for DC Superheroes.

I'm more of a DC comics fan so my knowledge if characters is a bit better than for Marvel.

Suggest line ups of 16 characters you'd like to see. Mine are:

Deadman
Hawkman
Hawkgirl
Jay Garrick era Flash
Oracle
Deadshot
Deathstroke
Catman
Kyle Rainer Green Lantern
New 52 Star Saphire
Sinestro
Batwoman
Lady Shiva
Zantana
Dove
Disco era nightwing

I know most of those would never happen for various reasons, but a guy can dream.

^ good list! Which Dove would you prefer - Don Hall, or Dawn Grainger? And surely, any CMF series with a Dove in it should also have Hawk? ;-)

I'd agree with many of the above, and would add Donna Troy as Wonder Girl, Black Canary, Supergirl (any iteration, although my personal preference is the hotpants outfit!), Vixen, Liberty Belle, Johnny Quick, Power Girl (traditional costume), Mary Marvel and Captain Marvel Jr, Alan Scott/Green Lantern, Dr Fate....as you may surmise, I'm an old DC fan who started reading back in the 70s. While some of the stories don't bear up, the characters were iconic. I'm afraid, for the most part, the New 52 revamps leave me cold.

Dawn granger - to go with deadman rather than Hawk the. Hawk could be in another series :-P

Also liking your list. I only really got into comics about 4 years ago and reading random story arcs as they com up cheap...I loved the blackest night/brightest day story line so that's why Deadman and Hawk. I have to agree the new 52 is often shaken but a couple of bit have been alright (I really like Justice league dark and I think a bit of that reflects in my list) but Hawkman at almost any era is defiantly a fav character. Some are far better than others and he's a character that's suffered a lot from ever changing writers but a couple of the writers have saved it by poking fun at the problems of character continuity.

Any Batman villains, I do not care how obscure or popular they are, any Batman villains would be great!

As a total DC fan - I'd need NAE demand a Blue Beetle (Ted Kord), Booster Gold, Dr Fate and Power Girl. Ideally I'd love Supergirl and Miss Martian... But then I've already paid for custom mini figs for MM and SG... However I'm sure that this is impossible due to the licence.

Can't believe I forgot Booster, how great would it be if TLG had a Booster with a little skeets as an accessory?
I'd say that the bat villain category is well represented in the existing sets, but with the amount of crossover stories there's near limitless potential for others.

Gotta be Huntress! Saw a pretty cool custom jobbie on eBay, but really struggled to justify the cost for an unofficial fig!

a new killer croc in a large fig style like the hulk, the red hood and the moth guy from batman (can't remember his actual name XD) would all be nice figs to get

Ill take a Green Lantern for $3-4 instead of the insane prices for the SDCC one...and ill take a Cyborg as well.

    Glad you made this list.
I thought about making one but I grew up with marvel and don't know enough dc characters (outside of the main ones) so happy to defer to an expert.
Dead shot and death stroke would definitely be cool.
I would also like cyborg, doomsday and darkseid.

Part of me is hoping that the movie CMF series and the Simpsons CMF series may be a sign that we will be getting licenced CMF series alongside regular CMF series and therefore fill in the missing characters in various themes a bit more.

In terns of the larger characters, would people be prepared to shell out a bit more for those to made in the same way as the hulk figures our would you rather keep the same price for them to be the same size as the others.

Personally I'd rather pay the little extra as long as it makes them look more like they appear in the comics/films etc. in terms of DC series this would apply to characters like Darkseid, Doomsday, Killer Croc, Killowog Green Lantern...I'm sure there are others but it's far to early for me to think of them.

    Green Arrow
    Green Lantern
    Shazam
    Bizarro
    Cyborg
    1966 Batman
    Darkseid
    Death Stroke
    Red Hood
    Black Mask
    Hush
    Mad Hatter
    Ra's Al Ghul
    Clayface
Swamp Thing (probably too hard to make a minifigure representation).

A few off the top of my head. They are Batman-heavy, I know; it will never happen, because that would be damaging to the selling potential of several sets that could be produced over the course of the licensing agreement, but one can dream. It may not be a popular choice to suggest the SDCC minifigs, but it's probably the only way many of us will ever have the chance to own them.

A lot of them have been represented in the LEGO Batman games - Clayface has a Chewbacca-type mould, for example, so shouldn't be that difficult.

I'm not sure that just because Simpsons might work - it would lead to licensed CMF for either Marvel , DC or Star Wars. Each of those properties already have "Action Figure" toy lines in place and I thought the LEGO license is for construction toys - thus they all have to be in a box set of some sort. An interesting parallel is the impact of the GI Joe Kre-O minifigs which have been selling better than the GI Joe Action figures.

Had Hasbro not owned BOTH toy lines I don't expect the bigger more expensive figure manufacturer to be happy to see toy dollars/pounds/euros be swallowed up by smaller figure manufacturer who offers better value for money on a Costs per figure basis.

I hope I'm proved wrong - but DC like Marvel have more than 16 iconic figures we'd all want - but maybe not by the public at large. Simpsons is on TV ALL THE TIME. So even my parents who despite years and years of training still can't name a Justice League Member beyond the Trinity of Superman , Wonder Woman and Batman - and often include ROBIN in the Justice League, they can name half of the Simpsons characters that are in the CMF range.

So is there enough demand for Cyborg, Firestorm, Booster Gold, Blue Beetle to warrant a CMF range for DC that isn't already covered in the boxed sets (Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, Flash, Aquaman). For me there would be! But everyone else? I don't know.

I realise its massively unlikely, thats why its more of a hope than a prediction.

If anyone collects other figures I'd recommend looking at the Scribblenauts Unmasked figures, they are very stylised but a nice small figure with a lot of the lesser known characters. I was given two and lucky enough to get Deadman who would have been my first choice if choosing.

An interesting parallel is the impact of the GI Joe Kre-O minifigs which have been selling better than the GI Joe Action figures.

You got me thinking on this now. I can't help but think that if a CMF line was outselling an action figure line (in terms of the amount of profit made not just the number of units sold) then I'd say this would say more about the demand of the market than anything else. With blind bag sales you could always chalk some of the higher sales up to people getting doubles. If CMFs are outselling action figures then I'd say surely the owners of the character licences would want to move more towards that as they would potentially be able to get more money out of it.

I'm aware that toy licensing is complicated and people with rights to various things will defend them furiously but I'd say that there two shouldn't be compared directly. An action figure is completely different to a Lego minifigure, as such I have a small Deadman Scribblenauts Figure, but I'd still want a Lego Minifigure of the same character and if I saw a good full size action figure at a price I'm happy to pay for it I'd buy that too. Look at the Funko Pop Vinyl line, they are stylised versions of the characters and therefore having say an Iron Man one of those would't be the same as having an Iron Man Action Figure or an Iron Man Lego fig. If anything I'd say the Lego Ultrabuild characters step on the toes of a traditional action figure more than a mini figure, but as you say the licence is for building toys so they have a nice sidestep with those - but then where do polybag characters like Martian Manhunter fit into all this?

Again I still don't expect CMFs based on DC/Marvel etc to be produced but I think theres plenty of reason for TLG to consider other licenced characters in CMF lines and what I do think we could see from TLG is more licenced CMF lines on new licences as a way of testing the market.

Sorry for long ranting post, most of it was just thinking out loud, I'd just like to see more characters available so this stuff is all interesting to me.

I think the way DC and Marvel do action figure licenses that it is m ore likely than Star Wars. As pointed out above there are all sorts of different types of figures licensed out today. Its more a question of what DC will let them make...now back on topic..... Swampthing would be awesome

@SuperTramp @Steve_J_OM There is a custom Lego website that has roar shack (I have no clue how to spell his name) I can't remember the website name but if you look his name up with "custom" and "Lego" you will probably find it, it's really nice machine printing and his hat and gun are custom molds done well. It's only roar shack not the rest of the watchmen line but it's a good start.

having now seen the two colour moulded arms and legs from the Simpsons CMFs I'd quite like to see a classic robin, with short legs, green at the top, fleshy mid and green shoes to be either Dick Grayson or Jason Todd classic design Robin.
  • carlqcarlq Ruislip Manor, MiddlesexMember Posts: 792
^ That new process does give one ideas...I'd like a "proper" comics Captain America, with blue top/white bottom sleeves (and while I'm wishing, a Flash-style winged mask)! :-)
  • AanchirAanchir United StatesMember Posts: 2,927
Obviously if there were a real Super Heroes collectible minifigure series, there would probably be a mix of well-known characters like Batman and Superman for DC Comics or Spider-Man and Iron Man for Marvel, and more minor characters. This might not be possible with certain characters because of licensing complications, of course. Also, it would probably be no more possible for the two brands to appear together in a series than to appear together in a single set.

One character I'd love to see, who might have a better chance in a CMF series than in a regular set, is Static. I grew up with the cartoon "Static Shock", and it still strikes me as a fantastic series with a profound social conscience.

Reading the New 52 assorted series, I would love to see a Birds of Prey set with Katana, Starling, Black Canary(in the new outfit), Poison Ivy, and Batgirl.

Also, I'm throwing in for an Animal Man and bigfig Swamp Thing. Right now...

I'm not much of a DC fan but I would go for...
    Animal Man
    Doom Patrol (Robotman at least)
    Vampire Batman
    John Constantine
Sandman (Either of them but Morpheus is almost a must)
    Ragman
Jesse Custer (This counts right- never happen in a million billion years but one can hope)
    Red Son Superman
Kingdom Come variants (Green Lantern especially)
    Steel

I'm a big fan of Elseworlds story's though and you could do a whole set based on those. I think a lot of them are even in continuity with the new 52 worlds thing

I can't imagine Lego doing a Red Son superman even as a SDCC minifigure just because of the communist emblem on his chest, I'd really love them to proove me wrong on that, one of my fav comic book stories. I might have recently ordered a Red Son pop vinyl.
