Also, reselling sets is more about demand than supply, demand has to be there (which DS should have), so part of me doesn't care how many are in the supply pool. Either way, I bet a lot of people are still only planning to grab one when it's finally declared retired. FOOLS
The set will rise, but like @enotoga says maybe it is better to get some smaller sets. Do you want to put all your eggs into one basket?
I would say if you are looking to not do much but buy one to sit on, then the DS is probably the one, but if you want to buy multiples of something, maybe not.
Looks like production has definitely stopped
I also got Cloud Cuckoo Palace and the Witch King battle to build (both excellent sets) Do you guys see a bright future for CCP on the secondary market? Lots of great minifigures and unusal colours, coupled with a strong license and I think it should increase fairly steadily. I can't find it online for less than retail though. Do you think it will be on sale on Amazon once they've restocked after the Christmas rush?
It's a good set, don't get me wrong, and I sure as hell hope it does well as I have some. I just don't think it will appeciarte at the rate you do. If I had to choose I'd probably buy one TH at current market prices than two AA's. Time will tell.
Any idea if this set will be retired soon.
I'm curious as why there is not much faith in AA? I view AA as a golden set. It's almost at 2x RRP here in the states. Is the difference really down to region? I'm not a big superheroes fan, but all my friends are, ALL of them. I can see the popularity in the US is only on the rise (until they bleed superheroes dry of all it's value). There's many, many drama tv shows that focus on superheroes, superhero video games and card games are on the rise, superhero merchandise is everywhere, and now they've started making movies that feature multiple heroes, as if only one wasn't pulling in enough $$$.
Are superheroes/Batman really not popular in the EU?
I think most things are down to region. Regarding TH and HH I'd say it's opposite here, TH fetching the higher return.
#21103 was a great seller this Christmas in the UK. Easy and cheap to ship, 80% profit, and all originally shipped from the US.

Its probably 404 or 504.
That's from toywiz.
The big problem with this is that the store doesn't have sales, so everything is sitting at RRP and here in Australia that is a bit too hefty.
Actually, you CAN find a Town Hall in the states for Australian RRP, so go buy one. :)
I was a little tempted to buy a couple more, but as I got a few for $178USD in November it just didn't seem like a great deal.
Some people clearly want all three, and will probably pay for it.
For those that want the minifigs, there are alternatives which are often in cheaper sets (especially if they are in current sets). There are also a number of fakes these days which will satisfy a number of people that might have possibly bought it for the minifigs alone. Of course, there will always be some unique figs to this set, but with the number of new superheroes minifigs coming out, I wonder if future buyers will aim to get them all. Sure some will, but will they pay 2x RRP for this set just to get Poison Ivy, Scarecrow and Harleen Quinzel? An alternative jumpsuit Joker is easy enough to make using a plain orange suit, Scarecrow is possible from CMF, Penguin is easy to make by buying the torso and using other parts from the Duck-boat set, Harleen by using a regular medic torso, etc. For people that want the characters rather than the exact minifigs, that is often good enough, especially if it is at a fraction of the price of a large set.
As a side note, BL always seems to be a much better deal than eBay when it comes to minifigs. I also think that BL has a lower probability of counterfeit parts and minifigs (than eBay) since most people shopping on BL are more knowledgeable regarding Lego. Perhaps a faulty assumption, but I haven't had any issues with BL to date...
